Positively peaceful and beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this property will not disappoint. Beautiful inside and out. We stayed for 3 nights during our visit to the Grand Canyon. The drive to the Canyon took around 30 minutes. It was a nice drive with plenty of pretty views. You will enjoy beautiful sunsets and sunrises and millions of stars!!! We can't wait to come back.

The house was great. We had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

  • 5 of 5

The location of the house out in the country was exactly what we wanted. The star gazing was terrific. And it was also great that it was located so close to the Grand Canyon.

Misleading but Fantastic

  • 4 of 5

Air Conditioning : There is none, also no internet. Whether it is practical to expect AC in a solar powered home or not, my property search was conducted with air conditioning as a filter. This property appeared in the search. The home is described as having AC and internet on the HomeAway App. I only discovered there was no air conditioning in the home after my final payment was received and my ability to cancel for a refund had passed. We were traveling with European guests who had concerns about heat. The revelation of no AC was a substantial worry, and we bought fans as a contingency. This is false advertising and not right. HomeAway and the home owner should remedy this issue immediately. HOWEVER, we did not need AC. We stayed in the home in the end of August and experienced 80's highs/50's lows. Everyone was comfortable.

Power : We followed the house manual and ran appliances in the day. At night, we ate, watched stars, and slept. We ran out of power two of three mornings. We ran the generator twice, it was easy to start, well described by the owner, push button start. But the tranquility of the location is dramatically reduced by generator noise.

Location: On the HomeAway App map, the home's location appears about 3 miles northeast of Tusayan. It is in fact about 21 miles south of Tusayan. This is my only rental experience where the actual location deviated so greatly from the dot display on the HomeAway App map. It is misleading and prevents fair comparison of this home's location to other rentals.

The pictures do not accurately show how beautiful, clean, and spacious this home is. We were two couples, and all were taken by the home, space, indoor/outdoor privacy, and beauty of the location. The stars are spectacular. The beds comfortable. Towels, dishes, bedding, silverware were all clean and sufficient. Our guests labeled the home Little House on the Prairie and told us their only regret in the trip was not spending more time there. They loved the Master Bedroom and its opulent bath. There is a fire pit. We were out in the country, no people, no cars. This home gave us a chance to experience Creation in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. I would absolutely rent this home again.

Solar Power means be prepared

  • 4 of 5

Great place, spacious, near south rim grand canyon, BUT requires planning since it is solar powered. We lost power but went thru the process to turn back on, all went well BUT be prepared, it doesn't always happen when you expect it.

Well appointed off the beaten path cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights during a late August trip to the Grand Canyon. For around the price of rooms at one of the hotels (if you book far enough in advance to get them!), we had a whole house to ourselves and could save money preparing our own meals. For the two of us, the solar power and battery backup was more than enough for our needs. We both had Verizon cell service at the cabin and so could remain connected to our friends, posting pictures from our daytime adventures.

Nice quiet cabin, close to Grand Canyon

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is exactly as described/pictured. Our family enjoyed the ability to spread out (3 bedrooms), but also come together for meals, entertainment, and exploring. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the cooking tools you need to prepare meals (including toaster, blender, coffee maker; note there is no microwave) and a grill is available on the front porch. The lack of air conditioning was no trouble at all. We were gone most days exploring (hiking & biking in the Grand Canyon, off road expedition in Sedona, swimming/playing at Slide Rock State Park, and taking a rafting trip down the mighty Colorado). In the evenings, the temperature dropped to the 50s, rapidly cooling down the cabin. In fact, some nights we were cold & had to get extra blankets! The land is typical Arizona desert. We did see lots of wild life, including antelope, one badger, lots of deer, and of course, plenty of cows. Watch out for the cow pies! There was plenty of entertainment available at the cabin, including a great collection of movies (we watched Big, Mrs. Doubtfire, National Treasure, and The Incredibles) and plenty of board & card games (e.g., Uno, Monopoly, cards, dominoes). Every night we went outside & enjoyed the beautiful weather & the amazing stargazing. We saw the Milky Way, shooting stars, and learned a bunch of new constellations. The solar powered nature of the house was easy to handle. I didn't dry my hair or wear make up (because if you're not doing your hair, why bother with makeup?) all week & it felt refreshing! We ran the dishwasher & washing machine during the day when the sun was out. We ran out of power once, the morning following a cloudy day, & used the generator. The directions were easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone with a family, looking for a peaceful place to stay close to the Grand Canyon.

Note: if you stop by the grocery store in Williams (Safeway) on your way to the cabin, you will want to pick up water bottles (or jugs of water) and all the condiments you might need (only salt/pepper available at the cabin).
