Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Nestled between the pristine sandy shore of Lake Michigan and a forest of cedar and pine lies a modest beach house only a few steps from the lake. Neat, clean, and filled with natural light the house offers lake views from almost every window. So close to the water that you feel as if you could reach out and touch it, Lake Michigan offers indescribable sun and moon rises that will leave a lasting impression. In summer, the days are full of sun and sand, exploratory walks on miles of coastline, and serene sounds of nature abound. The beach extends well into the water with an all sand bottom and sand bars stretching as far off shore as one's toes can touch. Nights include bonfires, lapping waves, and shooting stars that seem to fall in to your lap. In winter, a family puzzle, books/movies, and the crackle of a wood fire make the snow a welcome guest. No matter the season, you will feel refreshed, renewed and longing to return.

Why Darren and Kristen Weisberg chose Oostburg

While visiting friends many years ago my wife and I fell in love with the little town of Oostburg. We were amazed to find a pristine beach combined with a north woods feel without having to drive 5 hours to Michigan or Door County. A few years later we had the opportunity to buy this house and couldn't resist. It is our favorite place to be.

What makes this house unique

The feel of the ocean without the salt. The location reminds many of Nantucket. A walker's paradise, one can comb miles of sandy shoreline to your heart's content. There is a great sense of privacy here since the house is located on a private lane. One seldom sees many other people during the week.

Great Lake House with plenty of room for a big family. There is a patio and yard which was great.

  • 4 of 5

We were able to set up yard games and grille. You can also sit on the patio and watch magnificent Lake Michigan! The front of the home is wooded which made a lovely contrast. The beachfront was great, too! We have only been home a week and I'm already planning upcoming holidays!! Truly a Great Lake Home!!! Thank you!

We had a great time. The location is ideal with the sound of waves at all times. The house is nice with a rustic charm. All major amenities and a quick drive to Sheboygan.

Spacious and well equipped cottage with privacy and beautiful views!!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is charmingly decorated and was extremely comfortable for a family of five plus our dog. There are beautiful views of the lake and plenty of light from all the windows. The kitchen has everything you need for meals. Although, there is only 1.5 baths the outdoor hot/cold shower is handy after being on the beach. The yard and beach are clean and private. Sadly,, the weather didn't cooperate during our week bringing in cold weather, lots of fish close to shore and biting flies. But, Darren, the owner, was very responsive when the wifi went down!! He quickly responded to my messages and even made the two hour drive to fix it himself. Plus, during my phone call with him I mentioned the bathtub draining very slowly and he made arrangements for a plumber to fix the drain during the holiday weekend!!

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

This stretch of Lake Michigan is simply special and this property is a shiny example of it's potential. Darren's listing is exactly as described/pictured but the true magic can only be felt in person. The back deck and yard are perfect and being elevated from the beach just adds the feel of having your own private slice of the lake. The house is very comfortable and has anything one might require. We particularly appreciated the game/toy closet for our small family. Our dog was certainly thrilled he was able to join us -- yours will be too. If you know what to expect from this area / type of house on Lake Michigan you'll find this property to be exceptional as we did.

Dog hair everywhere!

  • 1 of 5

The outside of the house was beautiful, as depicted. The inside was not ready for guests. We were covered in long white dog hair. The furniture and floor where covered in fur. We vacuumed for two hours. There were cob webs. There were even cob webs with dog hair dangling from it. The cleaning person brings her family who seem to vacation at the house while she works. It maybe distracting from the work. Anyway this place is charming from the outside and neglected on the inside. If you do rent be sure to be on top of your security deposit. It took a little doing to "remind" the owners about refunding what was due.

Owner's Response: We are genuinely surprised by this review for several reasons: The subject line of the review is not something that has ever occurred before as our high reviews indicate. We are a dog family, and we welcome families with dogs to enjoy our beach house too. If there was some residual dog hair, in some corner of the house, we apologize. It is also possible a few grains of sand from the beach may be found somewhere in the house from time to time. Had we known our guests found something amiss, a simple phone call would have afforded us the opportunity to remedy the situation immediately. Why choose to write a hit-piece six weeks later? Interestingly, my wife actually cleaned the house prior to this guest arrival, not our cleaning lady. We love our cleaning lady, but my wife does an exceptional job too! Needless to say, my wife feels terrible that she might have missed something, is the target of a gotcha, AND that our cleaning lady's character is being impugned. For future reference, our cleaning lady has worked for the American Club/Riverbend (only 5-diamond resort in the midwest) for years and we are privileged to have her. We welcome her young children to frolic on the beach while she dutifully goes about her business inside; we consider her an extended member of our family. To suggest she, or her children are "vacationing" while she prepares the house for our next guest is mean spirited, petty, and small. Remarkably, our guest's highly critical eye for detail did not carry over to cleaning up after themselves when breaking a glass on the living room carpet, the shards of which found their way into our cleaning lady's foot. Last, the Rental Agreement that all guests review and accept prior to booking clearly explains the disposition and timing of the damage deposit. The deposit was returned accordingly, in full, despite a broken glass and late check-out.
