Depending on the time of year, you may see or hear coyote, bobcats, road runners, javelina, and other desert wildlife.
Very rich and bright colors inside the house complement our personal collection of original art from the Southwest and the Americas. You will be delighted by the indoor and outdoor mosaics that accents the property. You’ll even dine on John Wayne’s table used in the movie The Shootist.
We have three beautiful outdoor sitting areas, which include a screened Arizona room, facing east for the sunrise, a shaded interior patio looking onto our native cactus-landscaped yard, and a roof deck. The roof deck, with a 360 degree view of the Tucson basin and sunsets over the Tucson and Catalina Mountains, provides a spectacular setting for outdoor coffee, margaritas, or hors d’oeuvres.
The interior of the home and Guest House are decorated and furnished with comfort and charm in mind. The kitchen is well appointed for all your gourmet cooking needs. We purchased this property as a second home but then decided to share the beauty of the Tucson desert surrounding us and our unique lifestyle with those that would truly appreciate this exquisite piece of Mother Earth.
Gary Topper purchased this house in 2005
Welcome to Casa Encantada. The seclusion of this desert location, yet with the proximity to an incredible variety of sports, dining and cultural activities, will make your stay memorable. It is a magnificent personal retreat space and if you enjoy the art of the Americas your eyes are in for a great treat. You will leave enlivened and refreshed.
Every piece of the art has been personally chosen by us. The interior and exterior gardens have all been created and planted with an eye toward enjoying the exquisite shapes and colors from the Sonoran desert. If you come in spring you'll see breath-taking flowers and color. Yet, within minutes you can enjoy a tremendous variety of outdoor and cultural activities.
Wonderfully secluded get away still very close to the amenities. Could not have been more pleased with the location and the ambience. Would definitely be on my list for a return stay to Tucson.
Everything noted by earlier reviewers is true! This is a lovely home in a magical setting. It’s decorated wonderfully, and fully equipped. The kitchen is the best equipped that we’ve ever found in a VRBO. The location is perfect - away from congestion, but close enough to get places. It’s a reasonable drive to downtown Tucson, or to the Sonora Desert Museum, for example. Quarry Pines golf course nearby is recommended for golfers. We enjoyed a great vacation here: wine on the deck at sunset; coffee in the morning at sunrise; a few dinners out; a lot of local sightseeing; and much, much relaxation.
The house was well-equipped and the grounds and surrounding views were lovely. Away from the crazy Tucson traffic, but near enough to restaurants, groceries, parks and the interstate for easy travel and exploring. We had great weather and enjoyed sunsets with a glass or two of wine. Also some great sunrises!
Casa Encantada is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting with a great location. Thank you, Gary, for sharing. We spent ten days there the end of April/beginning of May this year. The house itself is a marvelous classic adobe-style house dressed up with Barragan-inspired interior colors, a phantasmagorical mosaic in the bathroom and an extensive collection of wooden, clay and etc. figures, creatures and critters scattered throughout. The setting is lovely, the surrounding desert a superb mix of native plants with Sombrero Peak looming in the distance. We were lucky enough to be there when the Palo Verde were in bloom, so both the area around the house and the flanks of the mountains in the distance to the west and south were covered with their yellow blooms -- a truly marvelous time to be there. Of course we were in the hot tub every afternoon following busy days doing this and that. The kitchen was wonderful for cooking (with every pot, pan and gadget you could wish for), which we did every night but one with provisions from Food City, our favorite market. The master bedroom was comfortable and the living room perfect for evening reading (lounging and stretch-out space, well lit). All in all, a perfectly marvelous place to recover from an active day and spend a restful evening. We recommend Casa Encantada without reservation and look forward to returning.
Everything was wonderful! We spent a week here and enjoyed every minute. Gary was great in responding to emails about the house. We hope to come back again.
Casa Encantada is a truly beautiful place inside and out. All of the outside areas, garden and hot tub are amazing. The inside is full of unique artwork and very inviting and comfortable.
The location is perfect. Close to I-10, Saguaro National Park and all amenities you need.
Gary is a very kind and attentive host and we appreciate him sharing his wonderful home.
We will be back!
