About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

The Tiger Cat Chalet is that perfect combination of a newer, high end home on a beautiful Wilderness lake that gives you great privacy on the water but yet is super convenient to all that Hayward has to offer. The Tiger Cat Flowage is 1400 acres, a diverse fishery with walleye, muskie, bass and pan fish. It has many lakes and private bays and are all connected so you can explore all the waters as you meander through the 1400 acres. This cabin is located on Placid Lake but you have access to Burns, Tiger Cat, McClaine, Upper & Lower Twin Lakes. Whether you have a pontoon, fishing boat, ski boat, canoe or kayak, all can be used to navigate these waters as you enjoy the natural beauty of the land and wildlife. This cabin has a pontoon boat on site for rental. All this and only 15 minutes from Hayward!

The home has been a labor of love for the owners and it is evident in the craftsmanship and added comforts. The bathrooms have rich tile floors, granite counter tops and high end tiled showers with multi-outlet shower systems. There is a very large enclosed master suite with bath in the upper level and attached to an open loft area that has a futon. The main level is an open space with kitchen and island, dining area and a family room with a gas fireplace. The gas fireplace is a central feature as the open flue rises to the ceiling, what a great way to end the day as you gather around the warmth of the fireplace if the evening is cool. There are 2 bedrooms on the main level and a full bath. It all opens up to large chalet windows, great lake views and a huge wrap around deck overlooking one of the many lakes on this body of water, Placid Lake. There is an attached 4 season porch as well that is connected to the deck. The lower level is partially unfinished but it is a walkout with many windows, it has a sofa/sleeper and single bed, a third finished bath and full-size washer dryer. The lower level stays nice and cool even without the central A/C.

On those hot summer days, enjoy the central A/C and the extremely well-insulated home. The home can sleep up to 10 guests. There is a real nice open loft area with futon and TV/DVD. The main floor is an open floor plan with a large kitchen island great for entertaining. All the appliances are new and it has a dishwasher! There is a very large yard, fire pit, private dock and it comes with a canoe. You have local phone service, free DSL internet and satellite TV! It is managed locally by Northwoods Compass, which manages 15 cabins in the greater Hayward area, more cabin details at northwoodscompass.com

Nice Modern Lake Home Near Hayward

  • 4 of 5

This review is based on a family trip in late summer 2015. Cabin was basically a modern comfortable home located right on a lake, only about 15 or 20 minutes outside of Hayward. Overall, this was a really nice property and we would likely stay again. But like any place, not everything was perfect.

Pros:

-Great location only a short distance from Hayward. Hayward has a number of great dining and shopping opportunities.

-Nice full size kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, upscale sink and numerous cabinets. Many plates, bowls, glasses, pots & pans and utensils are provided. Be prepared to bring any and all food and beverages yourselves.

-Large deck on two sides of the properties. The back deck was great for enjoying the lake view or just reading.

-Wireless internet via Centrylink DSL was included. Speeds were relatively slow if you are used to fast high speed internet in cities, but any DSL in the woods by a lake is appreciated. If you want to spend your vacation watching Netflix and YouTube all day, stay home.

-The master bedroom upstairs is large and has a upscale bathroom. Two bedrooms are located on the main level. The loft has a futon and a large Lovesac that can sleep a few younger folks.

-There is a full sized washer and dryer in the basement.

-DirectTV HDTV service.

-The basement had a small assortment of tools and supplies that I used to fix a couple of squeaky doors and loose screws that we encountered. These were just normal everyday problems that any homeowner should expect, and not a complaint about the house.

-The homeowners provided a few binders that had useful information about the house, the nearby lakes, and things to do in the area.

-Numerous ATV and biking trails are nearby

-Making the rental through Northwoods Compass was easy and professional. No complaints.

Cons:

***These are provided as constructive feedback. None of these would prevent us from considering this property in the future***

-The water had a poor tasted that none of us liked, even some of us that used to country well water. We used bottle water for everyday drinking and making ice cubes.

-Permanent fixtures and appliances in the house were top rate, but short lived furniture was one of our strongest dislikes. The beds were uncomfortable, the two love seats in the living room were uncomfortable for both young and old, and the dining room table was wobbly.

-Fishing in late summer was poor for us.

Owner's Response: This is the first time anyone commented that the beds were uncomfortable. All three queen beds are relatively new and in great shape. I know beds are a personal choice so maybe that was the issue. The dining room table has been fixed as we needed to tighten a few areas. Anytime there is an issue, the property manager is on-site to address any renter concerns but no contact to the manager was ever made during this rental. We are glad to hear that the renters would return and are goal is to continue to offer a great cabin experience. The owner has been very diligent in adding amenities to this cabin over time and maintaining the home.

Beautiful relaxing lake home

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful lake home is situated in a gorgeous wooded area just outside of Hayward. If you are looking for a truly relaxing vacation, this is the place to stay. Our party consisted of ages from 18 months to 65 and we all had a wonderful stay. The open floor plan allowed the kids plenty of room to run around and play. The kitchen had all the necessary utensils and all major supplies were available for use. Just like any other vacation home we have stayed in, you need to bring all food supplies with. Overall we all had an amazing time and would recommend this home to anyone.

Trophy Wife House

  • 4 of 5

My initial impression as I walked into this home was "WOW!" Beautiful hardwood floors with matching cabinets and granite counter tops. The master suite is second to none. By far, the best bath room I've seen in a rental. As time went on, I learned looks are decieving. The kitchen is beautiful, but is equipped like a college dorm room. Few cooking utensils are provided. If you eat most meals out of the home, great. But if you like to cook, stay somewhere else! The ice maker on the refridgerator isn't hooked up and there are no ice cube trays, so buy a bag of ice before you arrive. Most homes I've rented have the basic grocery staples in the kitchen. Not this place! Bring EVERY single thing you'll need for a meal, including ALL condiments, as the refridgerator will be completely empty, along with the cupboards. The heated floors in either bathrooms were non functional as well. I have the exact same system in my home, so it wasn't "operator error". The living room furniture is uncomfortable as well. More reminders of a dorm room! There are no shades on the west facing windows, so afternoons can get a little toasty from the solar gain through a giant wall of windows. The lake is beautiful and was very quiet during our stay. Fishing was average. A few small bass were caught each morning and evening. Tons of loons make for a real "north woods" feel. All in all we enjoyed our week away from our daily lives, but this cabin really is like a trophy wife, great looks but not alot of substance.

Owner's Response: We do not provide condiments at my cabins as they may be out of date and feel those are personal choices. One of the benefits of having a local property manager, as we (Northwoods Compass, LLC) are, is that the renter may call us and we can handle things that may need attention. This renter never called us during the week. Had he called, we would have tried to address any items in a timely manner. This cabin always gets great reviews but we can always improve a renter's experience so will be happy to look at the items mentioned by this renter.

Relaxing vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely week here June 2010, saw lot's of wildlife and enjoyed fishing, relaxing with our family and the quiet surroundings. The cabin is beautiful and comfortable. The cabin is recently built, was very clean, looked just like the photos and had all of the kitchen equipment necessary for those who like to cook. We are planning on returning this year. We would definitely recommend this vacation home.

Map

This lake and setting will feel very private but yet you are only 15 minutes to Hayward, which has great shopping, weekend festivals, go-karts, mini-golf, etc. You are also 10 minutes from the LCO Casino which has entertainment as well. You are also very close to Round Lake in case you wish to drop your boat in that lake for a day or swim at the public beach. Round Lake is home to Props Landing, a new restaurant opening May, 2107.
