About Bill Broadhead
To own a trout fishing property has always been my dream. I never expected to find such a perfect location. I am an engineering consultant and expert witness. The Residual job stress melts away with each day at the ranch. While I have traveled the world, no place is more relaxing than a stay here at the ranch. I am married with three kids. My family loves our ranch vacations. We live in Southern California in the mountains above Santa Barbara. In the winters we come to the ranch to ski and board at Mount Shasta Ski Park, less than 30 minutes away.
Bill Broadhead purchased this House in 1997
Why Bill Broadhead chose Weed
Siskiyou county is at the heart of one of the best fishing, hiking and biking areas in the world. The air is clean and the sky blue. This area still holds the flavor or the Old American West. The small town honesty and hospitality are reminiscent of the values upon which the country was founded. If you want to get away from the stress of everyday life this is the place.
What makes this House unique
Seclusion and solitude prevail in a natural setting with the convenience of a town and Interstate freeway nearby. Crater Lake, Lava Beds National Monument and numerous other natural wonders make convenient day trips. This ranch is perfect for the family that loves the natural outdoors but wants to sleep comfortably indoors. Nearby museums and antique stores reflect the mystique of our American frontier days. The nearby town of Weed was established as a logging town. Other nearby towns sprang up with the great California gold rush.

Rustic, peaceful and incredibly beautiful
The ranch in Weed is a special place. The property is spectacularly beautiful and feels like the middle of nowhere with no people within miles, only animals and birds. The house has a sweet front yard with grass and wild flowers and a hammock next to a babbling brook, just perfect for relaxing. There is a small herd of cattle that graze happily on grass and a couple of horses. The house is rustic but comfortable and clean. The only downside is no dishwasher (no fun doing dishes on vacation) and an ant problem in the kitchen. Otherwise you'll find everything you need. You could spend your entire time without leaving the property, but there are plenty of activities right near by. There's an excellent bakery in Weed that we enjoyed more than once!
Incredible location and comfortable home. Wish we could have stayed longer! The views all around were magnificent. Wonderful property to wander around and enjoy the solitude!
Perfect Ranch experience
We saw Eagles, Coyotes, Quail, deer and tons of other wildlife. The Sunsets were fantArticle and the weather supurb. Nine days went by way to fast.
Great spot! Fantastic views and fishing!
This place was just what we needed! Quaint house with everything you need for a long 3-day weekend, plus 500 acres to explore! The large pond at the bottom of the ranch had some beautiful fish in it. Saw some gigantic Rainbows cruising the shores and the tules and caught a beautiful Brown on a streamer after a LOT of casts! It was a great spot to let the little kids help reel in the fish and I highly recommend this spot for kids (ours are 5 and 3). They truly enjoyed exploring the property and feeding the horses. There is a lot of water on the property, so you have to keep them within sight just FYI...We would definitely stay here again!
We enjoyed the house, land and views far above our expectations. Perhaps "magical" is the best way to describe the beauty and peace of this place.
A piece of Jeffersonian paradise
If you only read one line of this review, read this: Bill's place is worth booking and you should do it now.
As of recent years, we have gravitated towards quiet, secluded vacations, in places where you can enjoy nature, the scenery, and can sit all day without seeing another person. If this is what you're looking for, you must visit the ranch. The pictures don't really do the ranch justice. We were treated with amazing views of Mt. Shasta and the Cascades every day, out of nearly every window.
If you like to fly fish, Bill's ranch is an amazing place to stay. It's located a short drive from several world-famous rivers, and if you come home skunked and frustrated like we did on a couple of occasions, the feisty trout on the ranch are sure to bring a smile to your face. The big pond can be a little challenging to fish without a float tube, but it is filled with bugs and big fish. Wayne Eng, a local guide, is worth every penny (and then some) of his modest fee -- but he books up quickly, so call him months in advance.
Cowboys Tim and Bill, who work on the ranch, were often present but never intrusive. They're both friendly, salt of the earth guys who are happy to answer any questions you might have, or to just talk about fishing.
For the group that enjoys quiet vacations with beautiful scenery, this place is great. For the fly fisherman, I don't see how it gets any better than this, unless you're spending thousands of dollars to fly to a remote lodge. We'll definitely be visiting again.
Pick wild mountain blackberrys in July, August and September (the timing depends on the weather) . All you could ever want right out side the house. There is a new Skate board park near the end of the driveway!
