About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

Come to Tahoe and enjoy Ruby's Retreat on the West Shore! This completely remodeled mountain getaway is perfect for two families or three couples looking for fun and adventure or just a relaxing vacation away from it all. The master bedroom is tucked away upstairs among the trees. You will have a king bed, a private balcony and your own full bath. Upstairs you also find a cozy bunk room for the kids, a full bath and a Great Room with a bar, treetop views, high ceilings and a memory foam king sized pull-out sofa. The contemporary mountain decor is comfortable and inviting for the whole family. Downstairs there is a family room with a flat screen TV, DVD and Stereo with a large comfortable sectional. You can enjoy the sunken fireplace (wood burning) with cozy seating and a perfect table for playing cards or games (cards and games included). The kitchen and dining room have all the modern features, gas range, stainless refrigerator and bar for extra seating. Downstairs there is a laundry room with front load washer and dryer. The Queen room downstairs has a comfortable seating area for reading a book or taking a nap with a full bath steps away. There is a gas BBQ on the large front deck with a picnic table big enough for your whole crew in the summer. We offer free wireless internet access throughout the house and have a large book and DVD library for your entertainment.

Ruby's Retreat is close to Sunnyside Resort, Firesign Café and Paige Meadows. You are a mere 10 houses up the road from the beach and a quick walk to many hiking and biking trails along Ward Creek or on the back side of Alpine Meadows (the Alpine Shuttle picks you up at the end of the driveway for skiing on weekends and holidays in the winter). Tahoe City is only 2 miles away and offers many restaurants, shopping and activities. You have a one car garage and plenty of parking for extra cars or trailers in the driveway.

You can now enjoy a soak in the newly installed private hot tub in the back yard. Enjoy the view of the stars or the snow fall as you soak away the aches and pains of a day playing in the mountains!

We have fenced in a portion of the back yard for our four legged friends!

We know you will love this one of a kind, kid & dog friendly home away from home. Visit Lake Tahoe and enjoy all that it has to offer.

About Dawn Glockler

A perfect Tahoe day for our wedding!

Dawn Glockler purchased this house in 2003

Why Dawn Glockler chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

Mark Twain said, '...I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole world affords.' when he first laid eyes on Lake Tahoe. We couldn't agree more. The mountain location allows young and old alike to enjoy a beautiful, peaceful and adventurous vacation.

What makes this house unique

You are walking distance to the beach in the summer and the Alpine Meadow shuttle picks you up at driveway for skiing in the winter. Tahoe City is a quick drive and you are walking distance to two popular restaurants and a market. A variety of hiking and biking trails can be accessed just out the back door. Ruby's Retreat offers many entertainment options to help you weather any storm, such as a DVD or book library as well as many fun games to choose from. In front of the wood fireplace is the perfect spot to snuggle up on a stormy day. With an eye on 'green building' we used mostly reclaimed lumber for our remodel. This allows for the modern conveniences of today with a unique and rustic Tahoe feel. Wireless Internet will keep you connected, but you feel miles away from it all nestled in the trees.

Great place for a Thanksgiving family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic home for a family gathering, great location close to Sunnyside and very clean. The home is very comfortable with good furnishings and comfortable beds. We cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for 9 people and only had to bring the food. The kitchen was equipped with every thing we needed to prepare the dinner. We will definitely book this house again in the future.

Wonderful Stay

We had a great time at Ruby's Retreat for a recent wedding in Sunnyside. Centrally located and with all the comforts of home, Dawn was so helpful and made all the logistics easy as can be. Looking forward to our next trip to Tahoe!

Ruby's Retreat -A Real Treat!

  • 5 of 5

Our family consisting of grandparents, two adult children and two grandchildren and one small dog had a fabulous time in Lake Tahoe the week of 4th of July 2014. Ruby's Retreat was the perfect home for us, offering all the amenities we needed and was a short walk to the Sunnyside marina and resort area and just a quick ride to Tahoe City for groceries at Save Mart. (Reasonable prices) The cabin was clean upon our arrival and the beds were quite comfortable. The downstairs sofa/TV area was very comfortable and ideal for our family of six. We loved the deck and BBQ'd and ate several meals there. The upstairs did get a little warm one night but the owner, Dawn, graciously offered to reimburse us the cost for fans. The owners are quick to respond to questions and are very helpful. I suggested that instructions for use of the TVs and DVD player would be helpful for the tech challenged--though Franz made a good effort at talking us through the process. This is a great location on the West Shore where all the sights and activities Lake Tahoe offers are a short ride away. We highly recommend lunch at West Shore Café in Homewood and Pizza at the Lakeside Pizza in Tahoe City. We loved Ruby's Retreat and much appreciated the personal attention of the owners. We would definitely recommend this rental.

Can't Wait to Go Back!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at Ruby's Retreat over Thanksgiving and we can't say enough about our wonderful experience there. The listing description is accurate regarding the location, the appearance, and the amenities. We cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner and had everything we needed to do that in the fully stocked kitchen. The property was inpeccably clean and well-maintained. We truly enjoyed the numerous windows in the chalet and felt "outdoors-ish" at all times. My daughter's small, well trained dog was welcome and we even had a small fenced-in area right next to the house for the dog to get some fresh air outside. Dawn, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful with our questions always having them answered within a 24 hour time period. I would heartily recommend Ruby's Retreat to family and friends. We enjoyed walking to the lake for morning sunrises and evening sunsets. In addition, we could walk to the wonderful eatery and bar called Fireside Cafe- i think - (with many televisions for football-watching and socializing). We drove a short ways (about 10 minutes) to Tahoe City where we enjoyed Rosie's Cafe. We enjoyed skiing Northstar (about a 20 minute drive) and Squaw Valley (about a 20 minute drive). In addition, the Safeway grocery store was within 10 minutes - it was well stocked and reasonably priced. The location of Ruby's Retreat was simply perfect for our family vacation and we hope that someday we get to go back to this little piece of heaven!

Most Excellent Tahoe Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I almost hate to post a positive review and tell others about such a great place, making it harder to book our favorite Tahoe getaway. We have been to Ruby's Retreat three times, 2 summer trips and 1 winter trip. We love the home and its excellent location. If you have never been to Lake Tahoe, I would suggest this is the best area on the lake. From the property there is great hiking, biking (with a paved trail all the way to Squaw Valley along the Truckee River), Ward Creek, awesome beach access and more. We are already looking forward to planning trip four to Ruby's Retreat.
