cozy little home in a very convenient location
Not quite as described on website/ a/c cant keep it cool
The overall location of house in relation to beach was good and seemed like a good neighborhood. Upon arrival we were a little disappointed that there aren't exactly 3 bedrooms as described on the website. 2 nice bedrooms but the third one you have to pass through one of the other bedrooms to get to and there is no light or fan in the third bedroom. Check in process was easy we arrived on a Saturday afternoon to a cool house but by Sunday after noon we were up to 81 degrees inside the house. We called the number provided and basically was told it was Sunday ( Fathers Day) and he wasn't really concerned about the ac( his words were well i can pull a service tech out of my hat ) he would get someone out on Monday by lunch. I understand it was Sunday and a holiday but I would think for the money you pay they would be able to have someone check even on a weekend or holiday. Tech arrived around 1:00-1;30 added refrigerant and said he would be back by later to check upon returning was told its working and would take a couple hours to cool down keep blinds clodsed it would help 3 hours later temp is climbing not cooling down (no one has been inside since tech left blinds closed, door closed ) called manager again wasz told he hasnt had any complaints with ac until us took picture of temp on thermostat and sent to him, he sent ac repair back out we were then told its doing all it can do he had a window unit he could leave to help out , he went out to check outside unit but never came back in with window unit. Temp at 11;30 at night was still 80-81 degrees the rest of our stay. I will definately not stay here again and i would recommend to anyone else to make sure and ask about the a/c .
Christy called me at 6:30 on Sunday evening which was Father's Day, and told me about the AC. I told her I would call my AC man, but doubted he could get there until the next day. She told me she was very angry and I told her I would call him ASAP. When I called, he was having dinner with his Dad and said he would be there first thing Monday. It may have been 81* in the house, but that day it had reached 102*, and with 6 people going in and out, it was hard for the equipment to keep up. My AC man was there the next day and added less than a pound of coolant to the system. He advised Christy to keep the blinds closed and the traffic in and out to a minimum since it reached 101* the next day. The system performed as it should, keeping a 20* difference or more between inside and outside temperatures. I offered to install a window unit but she said it was okay and not to bother. I've never had an AC issue before, and the system is only 8 years old. I did all I could do to help, as did my AC man. When the temperatures exceed 100* three days in a row without a breeze it is hard to keep anything cool, even at the beach. When I inspected the cottage Saturday afternoon it was 95* outside and 68* inside, so I know now that the AC system is working properly.
Location is the standout highlight!
The location of this quaint cottage makes it easy to walk to so much that Carolina Beach has to offer! The beach, the boardwalk, multiple restaurants, Lake Park (farmer's market and Sunday movies). There is no cleaning fee here so one must keep in mind no two people have the same version of clean. With the area experiencing a hurricane last fall and storms before we arrived, some debris was expected. Thanks to the owners for sharing their property, we had a great time at Carolina Beach!
Carolina Beach Woes
This cottage is ideally located within walking distance to the beach! Too bad the surrounding homes/neighborhood are shabby and rundown. Across the street from the cottage sits a large building with an ever-changing variety of occupants. The cottage next door looks abandoned but is somehow occupied. We couldn't use the front porch or back deck at our cottage because they were dirty and the furniture was mildewed. The yard was even worse. The interior of the cottage has some safety concerns. Old electrical outlets exposing taped up wires and a back sliding glass door that is so warped/old you can barely open it. Overall cleanliness was a huge disappointment, as were the Palmetto bugs! We managed to make the most of our situation and literally left the place cleaner than when we found it. Despite our efforts, half our "Damage Deposit" was withheld because we didn't follow all the clean up instructions that were supposedly left on the kitchen table.
Paula has some honesty issues here...the large building across the street is an occupied apartment building so you will have different occupants. There are no safety issues since the house is inspected twice yearly by the town and has had a clean bill since I have owned it. The sliding glass door works perfectly as long as one of the children doesn't spill a bucket of sand in the track! She decided not to do laundry, clean out the refrigerator, or vacuum so a part of the deposit went to pay the cleaning people. Instructions are the first item left on the table for the next guests. I'm sorry that she did not have a good time with her family but that is something beyond my control and I feel this review was left because of that.
Not As Described
The location of this beach house worked great for our family. However, upon arrival the refrigerator did not work, it took 2 replacements, three days and loss of food before this was resolved. Front porch, back yard and its furniture were so unkept it was unusable. There were basic up keep and safety issues: 2 units on the stove not working, hallway smoke detector not working, ceiling fan extremely wobbly where it was unusable, toilet not secured properly to the floor, sliding glass door not able to be locked, floor coverings dirty and bath linen severely over used and stale. During cooking supper the sink / garbage disposal clogged and overflowed onto the kitchen floor. This beach house is in a good location and could be really cute however, it needs a good cleaning inside and out and a lot of improvement in basic up keep / maintenance to meet the website description.
I am very sorry Janet was unhappy with her stay, but most of the problems were self inflicted. The 3 year old fridge was working after the last guest. I was called 9am on Sunday and was told fridge was not working. I immediately went to Lowes and purchased a $1700 stainless fridge and delivered it by 11am. After bringing the old one home, I discovered the controls had been misadjusted which shut down the fridge. It's been in my garage working perfectly ever since then. My yard service comes weekly to mow and blow. She deemed the furniture unusable since some leaves had fallen since the service left. Just needed to be shaken off for use. The gas stove works fine and was never mentioned as a problem both times I was there, and has not been an issue since. After being there 3 days and 6 people as guests, she had overloaded the disposal which clogged the drain, and she allowed it to overflow and kept using it. When she called me, I immediately drove there and had to clean up the mess which took over an hour. I was then told about the smoke detector which I replaced with a new one kept there and found the battery was removed from the old one(?). Not really a safety issue since there are 4 more in a single floor home. Not one of the ceiling fans were found defective at any speed and the sliding glass door does lock and even has a safety bar for the track as an added security measure. The towels and linens are new every season and washed every week. If she felt the linens were not satisfactory, I would have gladly brought more but this was never mentioned. All cleaning and laundry supplies are provided for the guests use so she could have washed them if she felt it necessary. As for maintenance, the cottage is checked thoroughly after each guest checks out. Toilets are flushed, sinks filled then drained, light bulbs replaced if needed, air filter replaced every 2 weeks. A new roof was installed in March and the cottage was repainted in April. What other maintenance is needed? I did my best, couldn't have gotten there any faster, spent 1700 needlessly, I guess you just can't please some people no matter what you do. Please see my other reviews and if you have any questions I am always available. Corey
Cute cozy beach cottage within walking distance to the beach, boardwalk, shops, restaurants and bars
I spent over two weeks here and loved it. I look forward to coming back. The cottage is clean and has everything one needs for cooking, entertaining and relaxing. All of the neighbors were friendly and helpful. I parked my car when I arrived and was able to walk everywhere during my stay. The only reason I rated this cottage 4 stars instead of 5 is because the back deck and yard were somewhat disappointing as they needed a good cleaning and mowing/raking,
Cindy was a great guest. I do apologize for the yard but it had rained a bit and the magnolia trees from neighboring yards dropped a ton of leaves during a particular thunderstorm. My yard service comes between guests but since Cindy stayed 2 weeks, they are told not to disturb the guests while the cottage is occupied. I will certainly be more aware in the future. Returning guests are given discounts, so come on back Cindy, the yard will be better!
Centrally located in the heart of Carolina Beach where you can walk within 5 minutes to fishing charters, restaurants, bars, shops, lake, family attractions, and rides. Open air market on the weekend, fireworks every Thursday night at the boardwalk, and free family movies at the lake on Sundays are just some of the free local activities within a very short walk. The best freshest local shellfish and catch of the day is right around the corner at the seafood market.
Other Activities: Beautiful Fort Fisher Aquarium with huge shark tank and touch tank is just a few miles down the road. Walk through a maritime forest and see native Venus Flytraps, Pitcher plants, and Sundews growing naturally in the wild. Some of the best surfing in North Carolina across the street along with surf fishing for the catch of the day.
Golf: Masonboro Country Club, Beau Rivage, Hugh McCrae Municipal, Pete Dye, and Nicklaus courses, to name a few, are all within a 15 mile radius of the cottage.
