All 4 generations of our family were able to come to the annual Memorial Day weekend get-together at the Old School House in Manzanita. This two level home is ideal for a multi-generation celebration. Though the weather was not always perfect, there was plenty of time for the great grand kids to play croquet, badminton or volley ball in the large lovely yard.
The home itself has great separation of space so the kids could play noisy games or watch TV on the lower level and not disturb the adults on the upper level. The arrangement of the twin-bedded rooms connected by a private bath to queen-sized bedded rooms was perfect for our grandkids and their kids. We of course , really enjoyed the master bedroom suite, complete with easy chairs to which to escape to as needed. It too had a private bath with two sinks and a soaking tub!
The two kitchens made cooking for our large group easy and the various dining table arrangements worked for either togetherness when wanted or separation for some more adult conversation.
It was a joy for our family to have this beautiful home for three nights for our yearly summer reunion. This year there were 18 of us and the spaciousness and comfort of the house was much appreciated. The house has good beds with nice linens and nice towels in the many bathrooms. It's supplied with everything from shampoo to spices! The kitchen has everything you would need. We had a croquet tournament in the huge landscaped yard .. also played badminton and frisbee (all equipment provided) and had a fire each night at the fire pit (even firewood was provided). The owners are very helpful; they told us about a dock close-by to buy fresh crab, the best place for breakfast, special things about neighboring towns and the festivities in the area. They definitely go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. Thank you, Dorothy and Dick!
It is very clear from my interactions with Dorothy (one of the owners) that she cares a great deal about the Old School House and wants to make sure that the guests get the most out of their stay there. I am so grateful to Dorothy and her husband Dick for letting us have our wedding on their perfect lawn. Everyone kept saying how beautiful the home is. We also had the pleasure of staying there over fourth of July weekend, and Dorothy made sure we knew about all the festivities going on. The firework show on the beach (within walking distance!) was spectacular, as was our whole stay. I highly recommend the Old School House. We immediately felt right at home there.
A group of 10 of us stayed here for two nights for a work retreat. The large living room was perfect for meetings. The number of bedrooms and beds meant most of us had a room to ourselves, and the kitchen was fully stocked for all of our cooking needs. The house is clean, neat, and comfortable. The weather was nice, and so we were able to take advantage of the fire pit and outdoor chairs. A short walk, and we were on the main street in Manzanita where we enjoyed one of our evening meals. I'd highly recommend the old schoolhouse for a group looking for a terrific place to get away, get a lot of work accomplished, and relax after the work is done!
Spent 2 nights at the Old School House for a small group retreat. Enough beds for everyone, impeccably clean, beautifully maintained, and updated "home." The grounds were well cared for as well -- with lots of space outdoors to enjoy the weather and the natural setting. A short walk to get to town and the beach, but those who don't want to walk can jump in a car and be there in a matter of minutes. The grounds keeper stopped by to make sure we didn't have any questions and he was friendly and answered questions about restaurants, local hiking trails, and other local information. Overall, a great stay! We would love to return for another retreat!
We had a "weekend wedding retreat" for our daughter and new son-in-law. The house is huge! and has a large working kitchen with all of the cooking supplies you need, including dishes, glasses, cups, eating utensils, etc., for over 20 people. Our son in-law's family came in from California, and each couple had their own bedroom! The bathrooms are large and well supplied with clean towels, soaps, toilet paper, and the entire home is CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN! I could go on forever praising this unique property! It was a wonderful experience!
Our family has been having reunions for close to 40 years. Historically we have met Labor Weekend, most often in Pasco Washington. We have been in "search" of a new location and this past Labor Day, we all gathered at The Old School House. What an amazing home and location the School House was! We played croquet, football, board games, cards, walked to the beach, sat around the fire and just had fun visiting!! There was SO much room for everyone to be comfortable. With a large main kitchen AND another full kitchen in the basement, we had more than enough room to prepare meals, etc. The basement area is perfect for gathering large groups, but we were blessed with amazing weather and spend all of our time outside! Even in the evenings! With 9 bedroom and 5 bathrooms everyone was comfortable. The owner was wonderful to work with and the support staff, on site, were very responsive to our questions and needs.
