About Duncan McPhee
Originally from Michigan. Santa Barbara & Laguna Beach, Calif. for schools, then 7 colleges. MFA in Photography Since 1970, I lived in upcountry Maui with horses for 32 years, 1971 to 1979 had a retail clothing shop in Makawao often riding horseback to work. 1979 to 2004 serving clients as an active Maui Realtor. 2002-2007 I spent 6-8 months at a time traveling in underdeveloped Asian & African countries. Since 2008 my time is mostly Whistler B.C. Canada, Maui, Hi., Whidbey Island, Wa., & LaQuinta, Ca . I’m an active, nomadic, spontaneous flexible, outdoors kinda gal. Under developed countries spark my interest as they change so fast, visiting for extended time engaging with local folks in their community & country, hiking & horse trips, reading books, investigating culture, history & politics of the country I'm traveling. My enjoyments in no particular order: Hiking in the Himalayas, Kayaking, biking, camping, sailing, cooking, outdoor lifestyle, long Horseback camp trips, yummy wine, dancing, supporting local business, organic gardening, listening to NPR, CNBC attending interesting film, theatre, dance, art, music. Oh, and paperwork: I love my family & friends. I’m social, love language, delight meeting, engaging with strangers, especially young travelers. Spas & massage, film documentaries, biographies, beautifully written books no matter the subject. I delight in: amusing my self, telling the truth, travel by public transport, river/horseback and cheese. I rarely hurry yet can get ready to go in a heartbeat, love doing anything I’ve never done before. I have a penchant for funny one liners.

Why Duncan McPhee chose Island County
I love the beach and neighborhood, a great place to walk shady tree lined streets away from busy traffic. It is private, friendly and so close to anything you might want or enjoy. No franchises in South Whidbey so you can shop supporting small businesses. Wine tasting, wonderful farmers markets, studio art tours, great unique music at local coffee houses.
What makes this House unique
Viewing nature on a pristine beach, enjoy organic garden veggies, dig shellfish from the besach. I love to kayak, paddle board, crab, swim, boat and bicycle from my front door Free public buses into Freeland on weekdays. A huge variety of quiet forested walking trails and an even bigger selection of beaches to walk along. The ferry ride is a 12 minute ride from Mukilteo to Clinton, no reservations departs on 1/2 hour. Go upstairs in the ferry to enjoy the 360 degree views of the islands and Cascade Mountain range on the trip.

Cute beach front cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at this beach front home. It is in a beautiful location and the home is very eclectic, clean, and cozy. The beds and pillows were comfortable.
The driveway is an issue. We had two vehicles and it was very difficult to maneuver them in and out of the driveway/parking area, especially given precise parking/driveway instructions. You may want to bring fire making supplies if you will be staying in the winter months. When we arrived the heat was turned off and the home was very, very cold and we were unable to make a fire due to inadequate fire making supplies.
The beach was wonderful, covered with shells, no sand-dollars unfortunately. We saw many eagles and seals, a sea otter on the beach and a little bunny in the yard. The big picture window with seating was great; we spent all of our time in front of the window enjoying the view, both during the day and at night looking at the stars. A pair of binoculars would have been great to enhance the viewing. None the less we had a great stay and would love to come back.
I love the view and layout of the house. It's cozy and comfortable and our family had a great time sitting in the picture window relaxing with a wonderful view of the water , walking the beach and playing games. The house is in need of some minor maintenance and upkeep but nothing that affected our stay. This is the second time we have stayed here and we thoroughly enjoyed the view, deer and other wildlife that came by. Duncan and Kathy were great to work with and accommodated our very last minute reservation request! Thank you for that!! And we will stay again!
Very comfortable. Not quite as tiddy as we thought it should be. Great location!
wonderful beach house
This is our second year renting at Seashell Beach House and we hope to come back again next summer. The convenient location close to Freeland and Langley can't be beat, and the sloping lawn with easy access to the beach is what we love best. The house is very comfortable, with a roomy and open sitting, dining and kitchen area-with great views of the water.
We had a nice week long stay at this lovely home which is right on the water with large windows. Responsive owners who care a lot about their property and have taken the time to write detailed instructions about how to care for their home and use items (electronics, etc.).
Quiet, lovely, well equipped, and comfortable.
We enjoyed our 4 days at the Seashell Beach House. A lovely view from the back deck and the cozy window seat. The kitchen was well equipped (we especially loved the waffle iron, one of the old well-seasoned and non-teflon ones -- what I wouldn't give to find one of those!). The upstairs "master" bedroom is lovely with a glorious view and a little porch looking out to the water. The room is so large that there is also an extra twin bed, and that is where our 16-yr. old wound up sleeping instead of the 2nd bedroom downstairs. That 2nd bedroom is very crowded with a double bed and a twin bed. If you have a few young kids, that would work. But it is a bit cramped and dreary and so the one upstairs was way more appealing for our teen. Thanks for the lovely and relaxing stay.
Antique, boutique and thrift store shopping, lots of walks and hiking trails in forested areas, Bike lanes too. Clams, mussels, crabs at your front door, shore fishing a short drive (Freeland Ace Hardware sells licenses). Farmers markets abound with abundant fruits, veggies, craft & art booths, Meerkirk Botanical Gardens is 12 minutes away. . Each month South Whidbey entertains with a variety of festivals, studio tours, music events, wine tastings. Visit Historic Fort Casey, Jet boat at Deception Pass. You'll enjoy supporting friendly local businesses, with only 1 franchise at this end of the island. In Langley: Clyde movie theatre is low cost with great films. Actors performing @ WICA Theatre have superb acting skills. Musical events abound in variety in coffee shops and private homes. For sport, Kayak and bike rentals or bring your own.
