Guestbook comments from the owner

One step forward and two steps back never felt so right! Back into the Gatehouse of days gone by. Free from politics, commercials and pop royalty. Back to nature at Cowan's Gap State Park with rejuventating walks on summer days to take in the bounty of God's green earth. Back in time to Fort Loudon, Philly, D.C., and Gettysburg. Cute and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We came for a ski weekend at Whitetail and the cottage was great. It had everything we needed for cooking, and nice layout for our family of five. It was only about 25 minutes from Whitetail, and there’s a Food Lion on the way :)

Charming, cozy, with thoughtful little extras

  • 5 of 5

The hosts, James and Kelli, have thought of all of the essentials and extra little things to make guests feel at home. We're staying in the area for business, so the basics of home living are important to us. It is great to have laundry on site, a full kitchen, Wi-Fi, TV, and one-and a-half baths. A nice fire ring and gas grill make it an enjoyable place to stay. The setting in the woods in the mountains is beautiful. It is remote, so be prepared to drive for shopping and entertainment.

Mother/Daughter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was very comfortable staying here. We ventured to Gettysburg several times taking in the sights along the way. Loved seeing the farms and the trees turning colors. We went at a perfect time while the colors were so brilliant. We live in the desert so this was very special for us. We made some very special memories as it was in celebration of our birthdays and we had this trip planned for a year.

We highly recommend this little cottage.

Review for our stay at the Ft Loudon Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gatehouse. Everything was as it was described. We had everything we needed and the property was very clean and well maintained. I would recommend this property to any of my friends and family. We enjoyed having our first evening meal at the Milky Way which is famous for their delicious food. It was a very relaxing time and would love to come again sometime.

A week in Fort Louden

  • 5 of 5

We found this to be the perfect place to stay for the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. It is far enough away to avoid the crowds and traffic but close enough to be at the battlefield in less than an hour.

There in mid-summer, we missed the sking but did check out the lake and beautiful beach. The house was perfect for the four of us in every way. We sat on the porch and enjoyed the end of each day before cooking dinner in the kitchen or on the propane grill in the yard. After dinner we enjoyed the fire ring in the back yard before returning to the kitchen to play cards. The beds were comfortable and good for a family but one more double would be better for couples. It was a pleasure to meet the Martins who came by to see us and be sure that we had everything we needed. All in all, a great place and we will surely stay there when we are in the area again
