Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

This is a beautiful and quiet family retreat to escape the summer heat. It is nestled among the pines in a quiet neighborhood on large lots along the edge of the east verde river. In the winter you have a place to bring the kids to play in the snow, because of our higher elevation. Sit by the cozy fireplace, yes firewood is always provided.

Just bring your clothes and food. There are some toys for children.

We are waiting on the review because there were some issues the first day and we are still waiting to hear back from the owners.

Fantastic birthday getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and and friends escaped to this cabin for my birthday weekend. The location was perfect, we saw elk on the road to the house on our drive in, enjoyed the sounds of the river and just relaxed. Neighbor Dave was super helpful as everyone's states, it was my grandmothers 93rd birthday as well and we were going to drive back into town to get cell service but Dave allowed me to call her from his phone. Such a wonderful gesture! The cabin was very comfortable and the deck was well enjoyed, we will be back!

Take the good with the bad

  • 3 of 5

This was not a terrible place to stay, but a few simple steps taken by the owners and/or manager would have made it a lot better.

The good:

The house was mostly clean and had plenty of linens and soap products. The floorplan was fine and the dining area opens to a nice outdoor covered porch. There's a charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal) and a gas grill with a full tank of propane.

The master bed was comfortable.

The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe

The heat worked well and there were several AC units in case it got warm. We didn't use them so I'm not sure how well they work but the ceiling fans all worked well.

The washer/dryer worked well and had lots of laundry detergent.

Once we reset the gfi (and cleaned the warm fridge – it smelled awful) all the appliances in the kitchen worked fine.

The bad:

The location is NOT in town, unlike the little marker on the VRBO website shows. It's actually about 13 miles down a small 2 lane road which had quite a bit of road construction going on during our stay. It took us about 25 minutes to get to town. This may not be a negative for some people, but it was for us. Along the road to the house were some Indian ruins and a lovely little fishing and hiking spot, so that was nice.

We did not get cell service and had limited internet at the house. Thankfully I was on vacation since I often work remotely while we're out of town. We have Verizon but it didn't work much at this house.

The hot water heater is very small and takes a while to re-charge. We could get about a 3 minute warm (not hot) shower. We learned to wait 30 to 60 minutes between showers. This was not a huge issue for 2 of us but might be for a larger group. Shampooing made for an unhappy ending.

If you want to watch TV, you'll be out of luck if you don't like infomercials. The cable is extremely limited. Bring movies and maybe a Netflix subscription on your laptop.

The house wasn't stocked well with cleaning supplies (we had to clean the fridge and freezer with dish soap because that was all that was available) and be sure to bring your own matches and hatchet in case the electricity goes out and you need that fireplace to keep you warm. There's plenty of wood but no way to cut kindling and no matches. Bring a flashlight also in case you need to reset a fuse.

There were lots of burned out light bulbs, including the porch light. This made unloading the car at night pretty difficult.

OK stay. Not the best

Was wonderful to get away. Great cabin. Loved being right on the creek. Really no big complaints. I would recommend it to a friend.
