Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)
Our signature studio has a queen size bed, kitchenette, bell tower and custom arched wooden windows and doors.
Picture windows overlook green lawns with a pool, hot tub and gardens.
A flat screen TV and DVD player with DVD library will keep you entertained after you grill up dinner on the BBQ( each house their own BBQ).
After dinner, take a stroll around the gardens which are decorated with a smiling tiki totem and meditation house.
This stone cottage has a beautiful wood interior and travertine floors, a vaulted ceiling w/fan and air conditioning. It is the home of the original spinning wheel and artful marble carving "Tuolumne Man". You also get the exclusive use of the brand new detached cottage bath with built in heater, large bath tub, travertine floors and a granite vanity with double sinks.
In addition we have large gardens and lawns to play games and explore not to mention that we are in the middle of national forest so there is quite a bit of hiking that can be done right here at Spinning Wheel Yosemite. The Tuolumne river is also just 100 yards away and is great for fishing and swimming.
You might not be surprised but we feel we must let you know, the internet is not a feature that we boast about out here. Being tucked away in the National Forest internet access is technically available, but it is limited, unreliable, and slow (and when we say slow we mean very slow). Basically you can check you email at our airstream business center.
So come on out, relax, read a book, watch a movie, play some games, look for the wild life and unwind at Spinning Wheel Yosemite!

About Matthew and Britney Barsotti
The Barsotti family begin vacationing at Spinning Wheel well before 1982. In 1982 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Spinning Wheel, there was no hesitation. Because of their love for the area they crafted a place where others could come and vacation as well. In 2013 Dharma and Eliote took over the property and are now the owners of Spinning Wheel Yosemite. Spinning Wheel Yosemite experienced a big forest fire in 2013 and as a result we had to rebuild this home. It's now a brand new vacation home with all the amenities of modern living while still in a beautiful forest environment.
Matthew and Britney Barsotti purchased this Cottage in 1982
Why Matthew and Britney Barsotti chose Groveland
Unlike many other vacation properties in the area Spinning Wheel Yosemite offers a very private experience, being in the middle of national forest with no other neighbors for several miles. Each Home (there are 5 in total) is located far enough away from the other where you can feel both connected (if you are renting multiple properties) or private (if you are using one house). Many people come and enjoy staying on the property so much (hiking, BBQing, swimming, lounging by the river and pool, etc...) that they are happy to stay right here. And yes Spinning Wheel Yosemite is just a short drive to the Western entrance to Yosemite making it the perfect getaway just outside of the park.
What makes this Cottage unique
The middle fork of the Tuolumne River runs through the property and holds a special place in our hearts. In the summer it provides a wonderful place to lounge and beat the summer heat. Not to mention the great fishing! And we are very secluded so no crowds or noise from the outside world The homes have been individually crafted up to the last detail. Stones were hand selected and placed on many of the cabins and each one has a story. Much of the art within the cabins and on the property is made by one of the Barsotti's. Which helps to make Spinning Wheel Yosemite feel like a comfortable "home away from home" get away.

Felt like being in a fairy tale
Looking at the cottage from the outside and any angle you can't help but feel like it's straight out of some fairy tale. It was gorgeous and cute and just what we needed for our short stay. After arriving and seeing the place and the surrounding area I was disappointed we weren't staying longer to enjoy it more. We were really only in the area to see Yosemite but it would have been nice to have a day to just hang around the cottage, pool and hot tub. I would highly recommend it. The caretaker Tony was great at giving a tour of the place and the resident dogs were quick to give you company whether you were just strolling through the property or diving into the pool. We didn't get to sit around a campfire and relax but we did enjoy some wine around the hot tub to refresh our sore legs (from hiking) - maybe we'll do a campfire next time.
Picture a place like this:
An oasis with green grass, trees for shade, and rustic wooden tables and benches. Butterflies fluttering around fragrant lavender bushes that perfume the breeze. Whimsical wind chimes and dozens of hummingbirds flitting about. Resident dogs Loki and Mini playing in the grass and chasing lizards. A pleasant creek filled with little fish for the dogs to pounce on. Nightly bonfires with a cold beer and warm conversation. A luxurious hot tub and pool to relax in after a long day. Cozy cottage with a comfy bed and beautiful view, interesting books to capture the imagination, and all the necessary comforts of home. No expense spared on gorgeous fixtures and architectural design.
All of the above describes the enchanted grounds and ambiance of Spinning Wheel, where the Crescent Cottage is nestled away from the activity of Yosemite. If it sounds like a fairytale come to life, that's because that's precisely what this place is.
My husband and I stayed here for three days in the midst of a California road trip. Boy, we wish we had planned to stay longer. Spinning Wheel was a huge part of what made our time in Yosemite our favorite part of the trip. After hiking all day and exploring the beauty of the park, we relished coming home to our little cottage and the beautiful Spinning Wheel grounds. I've never seen anything like it, and I can't emphasize enough the pure MAGIC and specialness of this place.
Owner Dharma and property manager Patrick were extremely friendly and inviting. They make you feel like family friends there for a visit. Extremely laid back and pleasant people.
It's not a question of if but WHEN we will return to Spinning Wheel, and we are dying to bring friends because simply telling people about this place doesn't do it justice. Do yourself a favor and book yourself an extra day or two at Spinning Wheel. I have no doubt that this place will become as special to you as it is to me, and probably every guest who stays there.
We can't wait to return.
The perfect get-away...dog included!
We just returned from an amazing three-night stay at the Spinning Wheel Cottage. The best part was when Loki, a cute white German Shepard dog, greeted us at our car when we arrived. He was our built-in buddy. He walked with us when we explored the beautiful property, fetched the sticks we threw for him into the creek and even hung out with us on the basketball court. At night he curled up outside our cottage door to keep the wildlife away. Tony, the caretaker, was quick to welcome us to and made us feel comfortable. Besides being friendly and down-to-earth, he's very familiar with the area, so gave us some great tips for our Yosemite adventures. Each morning we drove about ten minutes to the Texaco food mart for a cappuccino, then continued on to Yosemite Valley. After seeing the cramped camping conditions within the park we were always so grateful to return to the solitude and peace of our Cottage. We took advantage of the hot tub each evening, which felt fantastic after a day of hiking. The Cottage, and the entire property, was even better than the photos. We are already planning our return - and look forward to hanging out with Loki again! Thanks to Spinning Wheel Yosemite for making our vacation a special one.
Immersion in a creative environment abundant with nature's spirit offers a meditative retreat at the Spinning Wheel Cottage. Quietude mixed with a sense of play will uplift any soul who visits here. There's swimming both at the creak and the pool, as well as nearby Rainbow Pools swimming hole and waterfall, and it's not too far from the Yosemite entrance gate. Thank you, Deborah for a wonderful stay.
A Special Place
We don't even know how to start to write our review. Every now and then you go somewhere that you know is going to be with you always, We have a location in Italy which we think of and return to often ..and now we have Spinning Wheel. We spent a wonderful 4 nights in the cottage. In practical terms the location is perfect for visiting the Yosemite National Park. Groveland (and particularly the Iron Door Saloon) provide excellent amenities but this place is much more than just a great place to stay in the area. The Cottage is a wonderful 'nest' where you can relax in comfort. We loved the bath house and the whole environment but in particular the hosts Peter, Deb and son Jasper make this experience special. Every guest is welcomed to their special place and as a result there is a friendly feeling among guests as they share the pool and hot tub. We cannot recommend Spinning Wheel highly enough to prospective holidaymakers. Thank you Peter, Deb and Jasper for making our special trip extra special. Claire & Colin
A delightful and magical place
This our second time at Spinning Wheel we found the Cottage perfect. Arriving after dark our host Peter met us driving in and had the campfire burning . After a 10 hour drive and a hot shower we fell into a most unusually comfortable kingsize bed . We awoke late to the sun shinning and birds singing. This being July 9,2011 the weather was nice with a cool breeze. Our Cottage had everything including coffee beans and a grinder. We spent 4 days here enjoying this dream-like place, fishing, reading, watching and listening to the rushing river and exploring. We bar-be-qued four good size trout. We also enjoyed the swimming pool in the afternoon sun. We even had internet here so husband could ck. his e-mail while sitting under a pine tree. I now learn that we missed seeing the waterfall near- by. We will do that next time. Groveland ,a complete little town about 14 miles down Hwy 120 has a well stocked market and the oldest saloon in California. Please remember to bring your detailed directions, don't let the 3/4 mile dirt road discourage you, you will soon arrive into an oasis of lush green.
