Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)
Our Squalicum Lake cottage, provides the ideal setting for a romantic 'getaway for two' or perfect accommodations and lodging while touring Western Washington. We're a quick 90 miles from Seattle, 54 miles from Vancouver B.C. and just outside the city limits of Bellingham. The cottage is nestled among cedar and fir trees on tranquil acreage overlooking the lake and has a fully equipped kitchen/living area, bedroom, bathroom, a private porch and an abundance of skylights for stargazing.
Our cottage is for two adults only and the property won an AIA (State Architectural Award) for contemporary design. We also have unsolicited reviews for Squalicum Lake Cottage on major travel sites too. Pls note we have a three night minimum, no children, no pets. (October to May, two night minimum.) No smoking permitted in cottage.
The living room, with a vaulted beamed ceiling looks out onto Squalicum Lake and Squalicum Mountain. Large windows provide a view for watching the fish jump on the lake or enjoying the birds at the feeders. The cottage is situated in the middle of colorful perennial gardens and during the spring and fall you can see large flocks of migratory birds land on the lake.
The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave, stove, oven, toaster, coffee maker and refrigerator. Dishes, utensils and pans are provided as well.
A white iron and brass queen sized foam (tempurpedic type) bed...cozy bedroom to snuggle or take that long sought after nap. The guests at Squalicum Lake Cottage come to slow the pace of their daily lives.
All guests are greeted with fresh flowers in the cottage and we share the bounty from our garden when in season.
Eagles and a wide variety of other birds are a common sight as well as deer wandering through the meadow. Should you visit in the summer you might spot a heron or kingfisher looking for a bite to eat in the 26,000-gallon pond right outside your door. Dozens of frogs chorus at evening time, along with soft owl duets often heard after dark.
Squalicum Lake is not for swimming. There is no 'beach.' It is a migratory lake for fowl and a no motor flyfishing lake.
Three night minimum at $125 plus taxes/nite. (October to May, two night minimum.)Weekly rate of $800 plus tax.
Our guests initial comments are always that the website photos never do the property justice. How does one capture an entire mountain behind a lake?

Warm and cozy
Thank you both for another wonderful time in this most tranquil and gorgeous setting - - complete with 3 favorites this time: fall color, chickadees, and plenty of PNW rain. My daughter and I agree it was just what we needed at just the right time... Many thanks for offering such an ideal place for us to meet up and spend a few fun and treasured days together. Just perfect!
Thank you so much for choosing to visit us again. I always think it is so special when a mother and daughter spend quality time together. Wishing you the greatest of holidays. ...and kudos to your daughter for planning Thanksgiving dinner in our cottage!
Great cozy cottage! Very beautiful garden with very happy and well fed birds all around!
Thank you for your review. Hope you can return to enjoy the wildlife even more!
Perfect weekend getaway!!
This was a perfect spot to enjoy a quiet weekend away from the hustle of city life. It's a secluded spot to enjoy the sunset in the horizon across the lake and a morning coffee on the front deck. We would highly recommend it to any couple looking to spend a weekend in your partner's arms.
We are so glad to read how much you enjoyed your stay here. We know we live in a special place and are happy to share it with others who appreciate the beauty of nature. This past week with four inches of snow was mesmerizing. Please bookmark as for your next getaway. Happy autumn!
What a wonderful place to stay. The attention to detail was so refreshing. The fresh flowers & veggies from the garden was just so perfect. The huge windows looking out onto a spectacular view was so peaceful and magical. The owners, John & Liane are awesome!
So glad you enjoyed yourselves at our Cottage! Enjoyed chatting with you about your daily getaway ventures. Hope you bookmark us for a return trip. Happy autumn!
This home is lovely. Everything feels new and clean and it is the perfect size for a couple. The kitchen was well appointed and the furnishings were very comfortable. The location is wonderful- close enough to town to have easy access to activities, restaurants, and conveniences, but just far enough to offer solitude.
Liane and John were great hosts. They were available to answer questions and offer suggestions and they even shared tomatoes and apples from their garden with us.
The bird watching was a highlight for us. Nothing could be better than sitting on the front porch, sipping a glass of wine, watching all the various birds come to enjoy the feeders in the yard, and hearing the geese announce their arrival as they descended to the lake for a rest.
The trail at Lake Whatcom is not to be missed and is a short drive from the cottage. It is well maintained and offers beautiful views. We enjoyed picking berries to snack on as we walked.
We loved our stay here and hope to have the opportunity to come for a longer visit next time!
