Welcome to the Dome Zone. Once you arrive, you'll know what we mean... This geodesic dome cabin is like no other, nestled in Blue Lakes Springs Resort. You enter into an Ahwahnee-like lodge, 35 foot ceiling with a large triangular skylight & oversized windows streaming nature and light throughout and transporting you into the Zone.
A great room opens to the kitchen, where memories are made. Comfortable bedrooms invite peaceful rest (Bear’s Cave, Wolf's Den, Dear Hollow, Lion's Lair, Eagle’s Nest), and then there's Moose Lodge where you can relax, enjoy games, play ping pong, sweat your way to health in the resort style Dry Sauna room or soak in a brand new hot tub under a canopy of redwoods and evergreens. Kick back on the upper deck while dinner cooks on the BBQ. Enjoy the shaded downstairs deck when the summer heat is at its peak. That's the Dome Zone. There is plenty of room for large families with kids. Ten bunk beds populate the adjacent dormitory across from the dome. The dormitory is complete with it’s own bathroom, shower, TV and VCR where the kids can chill out after a long day of outdoor activities which are numerous.
This property is a 5-minute walk to great wilderness trails for hiking, or, if you want to go to a place reminiscent of the 1950's, you are minutes away from Blue Lakes Springs Resort. The resort has everything- a pristine lake for swimming, a swimming pool, tennis courts, beach volleyball, basketball, ping-pong, night-time movies under the stars, children's activities, snack bar, restaurant and more!
Are you into downhill or cross-country skiing, snowmobiling? Bear Valley ski resort is 40 minutes north. Wine tasting and great food await you in the gold country town of Murphy's, a 15 minute drive west where Ironstone Vineyards puts on out-door concerts. If you want to go to a gold-rush town frozen in time, Columbia is a beautiful 40-minute drive southeast. Everything there is original 1840's, including bars, shops, theater, gold panning, and people! Theatrical performances are both scheduled and spontaneous. On the way, hit Moaning Cavern or Mercer Cavern where you can choose the zip line, climbing tower and/or walking tour. Fish, boat and swim at Alpine Lake near Bear Valley and several other fishing holes along the way (check in at Ebbetts Sporting Goods for the skinning). Also, Melones Lake near Angels Camp has great fishing, boating and jet skiing.
Is golf your thing? Sequoia Woods is in walking distance from the Dome. Forest Meadows is 15 minutes down the road. Greenhorn Creek Resort in Angels Camp is a 30-minute drive and Saddle Creek Resort in Copperopolis another 20 miles west of Angels Camp.
You can be as active as you wish or simply relax in the dome zone under the stars that sparkle through the skylight ceiling. Enjoy.
We had 4 families (8 Adults and 12 kids) and we never felt cramped or overcrowded.
Great deck for BBQ and playing games at night.
Rooms w/in the Dome were comfortable and sizable.
The "dorm" was a great place for the kids and so was the basement - kids enjoyed the ping pong table.
We would book the Dome again.
Couple things that could be improved:
Lots of spider webs - on the walls/windows - there was a "Webster" in the closet. Owners should point that out to the cleaners.
Spa/HotTub had a not so fresh smell to it. We could only handle going in once.
This was the 2nd time our family of 4 rented the Dome. And once again we had a great time. Plenty of room for everyone, next visit we'll definitely bring another family. Hot tub and ping pong area are a big bonus. We spent a lot of time at the Snowflake Lodge which you get access to through the Blue Springs HOA (there is a day use fee) - swimming, playground, tennis. Also headed to Lake Alpine and rented a boat to cruise around. Found so many little coves to anchor and jump into the water.
The Dome was the perfect launching place for all of our adventures and a warm and cozy refuge for our return. Well stocked kitchen for meals in, or a close drive to restaurants in Arnold or a little further down in the adorable town of Murphy.
Such a great location and property!
This large and unusual mountain retreat is perfect for large families, family reunions, church groups, etc that are looking for a place that can comfortably accommodate large groups. It is in a beautiful private community. The community center has a swimming pool, 2 lakes, Frisbee golf, tennis, shuffleboard, bocce ball, a killer snack shack and more.
The home feels like it's in the middle of the forest and is secluded, when in fact it's just a mile and a half off of the highway and a short drive into downtown Arnold. 20 minutes west is the great town of Murphy's with the beautiful Mercer Caverns and tons of shops, restaurants and wine tasting rooms. If you head east there is the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, numerous lakes for fishing, boating and swimming, as well as Bear Valley ski resort.
The home has a deck off the main living area that is great for bbq'ing, hanging out with wine/beer and stargaving. There is an additional deck off the lower level with a hot tub. The lower level of the house has a ping pong table and a sauna! This house has everything! Fully stocked kitchen, 3 full bathrooms and many beds! We didn't even use the attached dorm that sleeps another 10 people and has an additional bathroom.
If you are looking for a great house in a beautiful mountain setting, then look no further than the DOME!
This place is excellent for a group! With 4 bedrooms and a dormitory, 4 full bathrooms, hot tub, sauna and ping pong table - it's hard to beat! The kitchen and living area are spacious enough to accommodate a big group eating or hanging out. We've stayed there since 2007 for our annual ski trip and truly enjoyed ourselves. The acoustics of the dome are endlessly fascinating. Stand at the top of the stairs and you can hear people in the kitchen below as if they were standing right beside you. No secrets at the Dome! Not far from the house is a great hiking trail. Up the road is Bear Valley for skiing and boarding. At times the maintenance/cleaning has been inconsistent. If there is an issue, we just contact the property manager and get it resolved. Our group really looks forward to our annual stay at the Dome! We love it!
