My husband and I have owned a landscape company in Palm Beach County, Florida for 36 years.
Carol Lewis purchased this cabin in 2005
We developed the nearby Mountain Creek Estates subdivision and saved a wonderful 10-acre lot for ourselves. It borders a rushing creek and has fabulous views. All thoughts of building on our lot went out the window when we discovered this property which was being sold by Coca Cola heiress Frances Woodruff - known locally as 'Mrs. Tut.' As a part-time realtor, I see a lot of properties, but the views from the porch of this cabin and the tranquility of the farm cannot be beat!
This property high up on Tut's Mountain was formerly the petting zoo of Coca Cola heiress Frances Woodruff. Remnants of the bear den, eagles' lair and other artifacts still can be seen. Neighbors graze their horses and cows in our pastures. The nearby Town of Clayton has the feel of stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting of a quieter, gentler time when people had time to chat & share recipes in shops. There is still a soda fountain in the drugstore, a drive-in movie theater and a general store where you can buy everything from a house dress to hunting supplies.
This is our review. We tried to put it in the web site, but it asked us to sign in, but for some reason we were not able to. Please will you put this in for us.
Thanks Richard and Jean
If you like the idea of a beautiful mountain retreat with access to fabulous, challenging and fun facilities....a place with spectacular mountain views....a gorgeous sun rise....a secluded farm....inquisitive cows and friendly horses....a large and beautiful interior of natural pine and stone...spotlessly clean....fireflies in the dark from the veranda....and humming birds in the day....then this is the place for you! We were a party of three families and nine in total....six adults and three children....all traveling from SE Florida. We wanted a place in the mountains, with things to do, but we have done this before and stayed in cabins. But this was so different. It felt like we were privileged staying in such a grand place in such a terrific location....just have a look at the photos as they don't exaggerate! We used the lodge as a base having spent two nights previously at Stone Mountain. We walked to the top of Tut's mountain (at the back of the lodge) on one morning and headed for Tallulah Gorge the following day...how spectacular and challenging with six hundred and twenty steps down and six hundred and twenty steps back !!! We zip-lined and floated down the river, toured the local town and villages and museums showing local history and crafts. The three young lads had a great time with the farm animals and the mountain climbing, and activities, all of which got them away from video games and showed them that life has other things to offer! We had a great time...very active and full of fun, and the evening drinks were well deserved. This is a lodge and location we would recommend to anyone wanting a quality vacation. And we challenge anyone to complete the 3D jigsaw of London, which we just managed in time, and left for other guests to enjoy!! A wonderful vacation!!
Mountain Creek Lodge was gorgeous!! It was so nice going to a rental cabin and getting just what you asked for. We were staying up there for a friend's wedding at Chota Falls. In all honesty, we wished we didn't have the wedding because we wanted to hang around the cabin the entire time. It had all the amenities you could possible need, I mean it even had bodywash. We didn't have to use the AC b/c the night air was cool and crisp. We just left our windows open. The view was unbelievable, mountains everywhere. There were 3 couples, all the ladies were in the wedding party and all of our husbands got to hang out at the cabin Saturday and watch football, grill burgers, and just relax. We had the best time and I would go back in a heartbeat. There was so much privacy--thank you!
Mountain Creek Lodge was so warm and inviting. They had everything that we needed. The kitchen was so well equipped and the beds were super comfortable. It was really cold and we had snow and ice so the carport was a great addition. We made lots of fires and the attention to detail having gloves and a bucket to bring the firewood in was really great. One of my girlfriends brought her own toilet paper because she said that rentals usually have scratchy toilet paper and it went unopened(-: We never even turned on the TV although there were movies and satellite. We just really enjoyed hiking around the property, cooking, playing games, and catching up with one another. I absolutely loved the coffee pot. I stayed up in the loft with 3 other girlfriends and felt like I was back in college it was so much fun. We had an amazing lunch at Fortify and enjoyed shopping in Clayton. We lost power during the night due to the storm which meant no water since there is a well. I texted Carole and she was so awesome that she called us from her vacation in the Bahamas to check on us. The power was only out for a short period of time. We were iced in and weren't sure if we could get out and she welcomed us to stay and be safe. We did get out but really appreciated her concern and offer. We are going to make it an annual tradition and can't wait to return.
Just spectacular property! It was the first time I was able to bring my dog with me. My German Shepherd loved herding the cows. There was no other dogs around to worry about and besides hiking two days we stayed here and watched the view everyday. She has everything you would need to cook with! Will be back to get away from it all!
My friends who are all quilters enjoyed out retreat at Mountain Creek so much. We are all looking forward to another retreat, hopefully in the Spring. We really like the peace and quiet. They loved the house and we had lots of time to sew and share meals. We went for walks to see the cows. I missed the horses . We visited local quilt shops, other than that, we stayed at the house most of the time.
Once a year the four of us get together somewhere for a week of family time. This year we chose to stay locally and visit the Georgia mountains. It was one of the best decision we ever made . Staying at Mountain Creek Lodge exceeded our expectations with its location, its charm, its warm and friendly decor, all the amenities it offered, and its incredibly gorgeous views of the pasture land, the cows, and the mountains. Our dog fell in love with the cows and we fell in love with the area! It is our plan to visit Mountain Creek Lodge again and have already recommend it to several of our friends. You will not be disappointed!
The description of the property was very accurate, everything in the house better than we ever expected. Everything was well maintained and very clean. Ms Carol gave us great service and answered all our request. I will recommend the property to friends and relatives some have already started to look for dates to go to Clayton. We have been rafting in Clayton for the last 6 years and this was the best property we have rented. We always go to the U Joint, Rusty Bike and Brasstown to eat and like the downtown area. We also like Fox Fire and the flee markets. We have no dislikes and are planning to take grand kids up to the property next summer. Our over all stay was great and thank you for sharing your home with us. Chuck Mayeaux
