Beautiful property, but needs a lot of maintenance
We enjoyed our stay in residential community of Kailua, very centrally located and away from the bustle of Honolulu/Waikiki. The property was beautiful on the canal, 45 minute kayak to the beach. One kayak was missing a plug and was swamped in the canal. It was replaced while we were there. The private pool needs maintenance. Bicycles were unusable. The shower temperature control was broken. Locks on the door were missing. Lots of island decor in the apartment, but no room to store personal items. No sink except in the bathroom. Extra bed took up valuable space which could have been better used. Dangerous step down in the middle of the room. Way too many tables and chairs on the patio for a studio apartment. Lots of pool toys and beach supplies were broken or unusable. Bed was comfortable. Loved the area, but we would look for a different place next time.
Great rental for a family
We enjoyed our week at the "Aloha Tropical Hideaway" with our two kids (ages 6 & 8). We used the kayaks and paddleboards provided at the house every day to get to the beach. There were several restaurants and a grocery store within a 10 minute walk, and the larger Target shopping center with tons of restaurants was about a 30 minute walk from the house. We saw the homeowners once during our stay and once to say goodbye on the last morning, so it felt private. The pool was cleaned the first day and my kids used it several times. The rental is one large open room with a king bed (soft mattress), a foldout couch (soft mattress) and a twin bed (firm mattress). There is a kitchen nook and a sizeable closet. We would stay here again if we returned to Kailua.
Very enjoyable stay in this Kailua studio!
We really enjoyed our stay! We stayed 7 nights with our daughters age 14 and 17. There was enough room for all of us and the girls enjoyed having their own beds. What we liked best about the studio was how bright and airy it was. There is no air conditioner, but we never felt that we needed it. We also really enjoyed having our coffee each morning on the patio. Being on the canal was nice. We used the kayaks a couple of times and sat by the canal on the swing. Having beach chairs, yoga mats, and snorkeling equipment available was very helpful. We loved the town of Kailua, especially all the great lunch/dinner options. Our hosts were very nice and even offered to do our laundry midweek. The only negatives were the uncomfortable king bed and pool cleaning equipment left in the pool all week. Even though the studio is attached to the owner's home, we had the patio and pool to ourselves the vast majority of the time. However, if having your privacy is very important to you, this may not be your best option.
Lovely place to stay but not for a young family.
The place was well-kept, clean, and decorated beautifully. However, the decorations were breakable and we had to move a lot of them temporarily because we had two toddlers with us and were afraid they might break any.
Other issues we had were:
The main bed was really uncomfortable. It was very lumpy and uneven. After 4 nights of sleeping in it, my back
Also, the pool was not that clean. Our kids really wanted to jump in, on multiple occasions but we stopped them because we were worried about the cleanliness.
On the upside, we did love the beach toys, beach towels, beach chairs, and all other beach accessories that we could use freely. The communication from the hosts was always so courteous and timely, and the location was perfect! So close to the beach and in a lovely and quiet neighborhood.
Overall, it was a lovely place to stay but maybe not for a young family.
Just the quiet we were looking for.
We had a lovely stay in Kailua and the location was just what we desired. It was private and in a very quiet residential neighborhood. The town and beach were close by and it was an easy stepping off point to all of the other areas of the island that we wanted to visit.
