Big, comfy, clean and well cared for

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend with a group of our closest friends celebrating my wife's 50th. The house was perfect. There are beautiful long views over Cape Cod Bay. The house is big and accommodates a large group without feeling crowded.

Jill was fantastic. She was very welcoming and went out of her way to make sure we were well cared for.

Lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and my sisters family spent a delightful week here this past summer, enjoying long walks on the beach, ocean views and breezes, and the comfortable and large layout of this house. Just a short bike ride to provincetown and a walk to the bay beach and short drive to fabulous seashore beaches, we and our kids had a fantastic vacation! The house has all the comforts of home and more--the glorious views and tranquil setting can't be beat.

stunning location and nice property

  • 5 of 5

SO glad to find a nice house with lots of kitchen and living space. I did most of the cooking so I appreciated seeing the water from the kitchen, as well as from the big common area. The extra kitchen deck made cooking and grilling easier -- nice touch. The kids had a blast downstairs. We booked the same week for next summer.

Truro vacation

Large house with open floor plan and lots of bathrooms and bedrooms. Large yard with short walk to secluded beach. Quiet neighborhood surrounded by nice large private homes. We hope to be there again this year. Despite other comments on this property, the owner responded quickly to our questions and requests.

Poorly maintained with lots of excuses

  • 1 of 5

We and our friends rented this house the week of 7/6/13. First the owner never greeted us the first day like she said she would and there was no key or instructions about the house. The downstairs was very damp with a small dehumidifier that you had to keep emptying. Mold was found on blankets and curtains. The downstairs bathroom main light did not work even after the light bulb was replaced. The smoke detectors were all missing. There were screens either ripped or missing from the windows making it very uncomfortable in the house because we couldn't open all the windows. We had to replaced the sliding screen door to the deck because it was ripped so bad with a new one she had in the closet downstairs. We had a new washer delivered that week, the cable company came ( cable not working properly) and also the lawn was mowed, along with the owner showing up to try to remedy the situation of issues that should have been taken care of before the start of the summer season. We found this house to be uncomfortable and not worth the rental price.

The size of the house was good and location fine, but because of the poor upkeep we will never rent this house again or recommend it to anyone. We have rented in Cape Cod for 19 years and the Jersey Shore for 5 years never having issues like this or feeling the value of rental was not worth it.

Owner's Response: I am terribly sorry that these guests didn't enjoy our beautiful home. I was minutes away and throughout their stay I tried to make them happy. We had a heat wave during their stay, they were not pleased. The day after these guests arrived, they called, angry, and, to their surprise, I was at the house in minutes, making a list of all of their troubles. I fixed everything on their list that day or the next, including: I delivered two screens (out of 34 in the house) that were already at the screen shop being repaired, and created a third, that had been entirely lost. I installed an entire set of smoke alarms, which had been removed by prior guests when they went off during the humid weather. I laundered a new twin pieced quilt that must have been left outside, crumpled, so that it mildewed. I was told there was just ONE comforter with some mildew. I've checked -- there are no others. I keep an extra screen door in a closet downstairs because of frequent damage from people walking through them. The screen door wasn't torn before these guests arrived. Regardless, they found the new one easily and used it. I took the torn one in for replacement promptly. These guests wanted more cable channels; I immediately upgraded, effective that day. My family doesn't watch television. We explore the beach, read books, look at the stars, toast marsh mellows. Yes, I mowed the lawn In April, I installed a half acre lawn where there had been NONE -- just tall scrub. The lawn is gorgeous, showing off the undulating forms of the top of the dune. It cost me $23,000 so far to create this lawn. I made this expenditure to make the property lovelier and make my guests happier. But lawns do need to be mowed ... unless they are made of astro turf. The former washing machine was working fine, but it was a front loader with handles that guests frequently broke, so I replaced it with a brand new super-duper, high-efficiency top loader with a tub so big my 8 year old can hide in it! Delivery was made with permission and without inconvenience to them. They said were thrilled with it. Summary: expansive new lawn, fabulous new washing machine, extra screen doors ready, owner on hand ... nasty review. Really??? These guests were angry about the heat wave, they demanded money back; I said no. Epilogue: With temperatures so high the past 2 summers, I have decided to install central air conditioning before next season. A.C. INSTALLED JUNE 2014

Vacation Disaster.

  • 1 of 5

While the location of this house is fantastic, the house has many faults. First, the house is falsely advertised - there are numerous pictures of stairs leading to the beach. After we paid our rent in full, the owner emailed us to make us aware of a few things – due to the hostile neighbors, we can’t use the stairs (it’s about a 7 minute walk to the beach down the street); we can’t walk on the lawn, and that she’d be dropping by at some point to deliver a box spring. After I politely asked her to respect our privacy, she accused me of doing something illegal in her home.

In addition, we were left with only enough sheets for about 3/4 of the beds. One of the showers had no hot water. The oven didn't work. When we emailed the owner to let her know these issues existed, she dismissed our claims, stating that she used the oven after we left. She then accused us of flipping some switch to turn the shower off. We of course had no idea how to turn the water on or off, but it would have been helpful to know. After 30 days, the owner finally returned our security deposit, but not before threatening to keep half of it and falsely accusing us of not folding a few sheets. Dealing with her was difficult at best. Despite issues we faced with the owner, the house is certainly not worth this price – the basement is moldy and damp and where 3 bedrooms are located.

Take caution if renting this home - it's likely not worth it.

Owner's Response: This review was written by a young woman who begged me to allow her to bring a large group of college friends to my family’s home for a weekend. Ultimately, she convinced me that she would be responsible and I agreed to the rental. I even reduced the price for the group to make it affordable for them; I discounted the rate by 50%(!) in exchange for the reviewer’s promise, in writing, that the group would leave the house cleaned and the sheet sets and towels laundered and returned to the appropriate beds and shelves. The reviewer broke this promise. Worse, to my amazement, days AFTER their vacation, a member of the group called me to ask me for money back because the television, oven and one shower (there are four) hadn’t worked during their stay. Later one member of the group added a second shower to the list of malfunctions for which they wanted to be compensated. When I received the phone call about the oven, shower, and television, I went directly to the empty house. I found that a shut off to one shower had been moved slightly, although I assume this was unintentional. I found our new flat screen television unplugged and the cable mis-connected to the television; in minutes, I had it up and running again perfectly. The oven, which had been cleaned just before this group arrived, was working perfectly, although I found one of our baking sheets, blackened and greasy, on a rack inside. When I asked the reviewer and her friends to at least cover the housekeeper’s bill for hours spent dealing with linen sets for eleven beds, etc, the reviewer was hostile. I dropped the request. About the yard: before agreeing to the rental, I told the reviewer that I had recently cleared half an acre of our dune, which had been densely over grown with gnarly trees and shrubs, in order to create a yard where there had previously been none. I told her that the brand new grass could not be walked on until the fall. I am puzzled by the reviewer’s statement that I thought they were doing something illegal at the house. Clearly, we had some miscommunications! I wish a member of the group had reached me during their stay so that I could have addressed their problems operating the television, oven and fourth shower. I was happy to hear from two members of the group that they had all had a great time at our house. However, after this experience, my family will not be renting our home to groups of young adults.
