The property is wonderful, completely remote with nothing but nature around. The hot tub in the garden with the fire torches makes it really special. Obviously it’s next to a pond and jungle so there are a lot of lizards and spiders around but they don’t bother you! Linda and ric are both really responsive by email and have taken great care of the property. We really enjoyed our stay 😊
Beautiful hidden hide away
Thank u ric and Linda for helping us have a wonderful vacation despite the rainy week! Great access to a beautiful beach, the hot tub kept us warm on chilly days and we were very comfortable in the beds. Mahalo!
Very lovely plantation cottage
The Coconut Hut had a very warm welcoming feel - spacious, clean, very nicely appointed. It had everything we needed. We requested that sheets and towels be without detergent and fabric softener chemical fragrances, and Linda did a fine job accommodating our request - note that you need to request this if you are sensitive. We arrived just after several weeks of heavy rain so it was very muddy and the mosquitos were in full force, but they virtually disappeared by the next day with no rain. The hot tub was clean and they use bromides, not chlorine, for which I am grateful. Some previous reviewer mentioned lots of critters, but we did not find this to be true. Relatively speaking, as Hawaii residents ourselves, it was low critter. There was the resident gecko and an ant or two. The biggest downside were the early morning crowing roosters, but if you get up early, not a problem. Lots of wandering neighborhood chickens clucking around. On the whole a very pleasant stay.
Location, location, location! But there are some issues with the Hut...
We loved Coconut Hut right away when we entered. It is very well appointed and quite cute. Love the birds and frogs (unless you mind being woken at 3:30am by roosters crowing under your window). However, there were some aspects to our 5-week stay that were disappointing, to say the least. We were expecting a kitchen (of course), but found out that the oven didn’t work and the fridge needed replacing. We had to light the burners on the range (with a lighter that we purchased). We were promised an oven and fridge, but after waiting a few weeks, it took three attempts and two of our precious days to complete the task. We were completely without the ability to cook for one day and have not received any compensation (still waiting…). There is no music-the stereo and CD don’t work. We suggest bringing your own Bluetooth speakers. Cell reception is sketchy in the Hut. Mosquitoes were a HUGE problem during our stay – the screens on the doors aren’t tight, the doors are swollen and won’t shut easily. We kept them all closed. It is VERY wet there – a computer bag mildewed in a closet within two weeks while we were there. The hot tub was nice, but swatting mosquitoes on your face wasn’t! If you care about security, be aware that the windows don’t lock. And…watch out for falling coconuts! They hit the roof with a BANG! Also, take note that the property is for sale. Although the real estate agent is polite, you have to be ready for potential buyers to walk through while you are there. The caretaker, Linda, is THE BEST! She’s the reason Coconut Hut is so nice! Best thing...we LOVED being able to walk to Anini Beach and swim within 5 minutes! That’s the best thing about Coconut Hut. Location, location, location!!
This is a little dramatic. The guests were told prior to moving in that we were replacing the oven and refrigerator. Kauai is not like the mainland, thank God! It takes 6 weeks to order and receive appliances and 2 weeks to deliver and install them if you can find the parts for the propane converter. They were given a $100 credit for a nice dinner.
Coconut Hut is a pure Kauai beach house. It's second world. (Mosquitoes are not in the house). The integrity of the screens are always kept, the doors actually do shut.
No one will walk through your house without permission.
Some guests would truly be better off in a resort.
Seamlessly easy check in with Linda. The house is exactly as described. Very comfy and loads of towels. Great jacuzzi. Very private. Beach down driveway across road and accessed down a little path beside one of the beach houses. Just peaceful private comfy and quiet. A great week doing nothing!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Coconut Hut!
We arrived in the dark and had a little trouble finding the Coco hut, but once in, we fell in love. We woke early, thanks to jet lag and the ever-present roosters. We started exploring immediately and delighted in the pond, frogs, birds, coconuts, flowers and walk to the beach. The boys, 8 and 11, loved exploring, and the location was perfect for exploration of the North Shore. At the end of the day relaxing by the pond with palm trees swaying overhead was heavenly. Bring mosquito spray, sun tan lotion and don't be alarmed if you are woken by a very loud crashing sound in the middle of the night. It's just a coconut hitting the roof..... If you love coffee, be sure to check out the new coffee shop near the Kauai Juice company in Kilauea. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it.
