Unique and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed this property. Everything about it is unique, and for us it was a piece of property that you would not expect to see in AZ. We were here for rest and recuperation, a little work and to spend time with friends in Sedona. Sitting on the patio watching the chickens and peacocks was peaceful and entertaining. We stayed in the “quaint” cabin, which describes it perfectly. It’s a bit quirky with the ladder to the loft bedrooms in the only bathroom, but not a problem for us. If you plan to do much cooking (and are not familiar with an old wood burning stove), I would plan on grilling on the neighboring shared patio. We did have to improvise just to cook breakfast on the electric burners also provided. But I cook at home every day so this was not a problem for me at all. For us, the fact that they are very pet friendly was the main reason I chose this property and I was pleasantly surprised by all it had to offer. I was worried how my dogs would do with all the resident animals but it all worked out great. I walked my dogs on the entire property every day and they loved it! Chris and Jackie are friendly and welcoming. If the opportunity arises, we will be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are getting ready to swap our Elmira woodburning cookstove for a 220 electric range. This will make the kitchen more modern and functional for those who enjoy cooking.

We did not get what we paid for

  • 1 of 5

ID#245470 is part of a nice piece of property with 2 cottages and the owners’ home. We met Jacquie, who was very helpful, but not Chris (owners). The cottage is located on the main N Page Springs Rd, about 30 ft off the road. Fairly busy - so we heard all the traffic. One living room window faces the parking lot of both cottages. Cars going to the owners' home have to pass the windows. Since the cottage is situated lower than the driveway, we had them on eye-level when in the living-room. The cottage is somewhat dark and the lighting could have been better for us who like to read. So we bought brighter bulbs.

It was great that the cottage could be heated. The bedroom situation was fine for us, but it differs from the description: Yes, you can sleep 6, but only one bedroom can be considered as such since it actually has a door (it replaces the dining area, which you still find on one of the photos as of 1/17/18). Upstairs you have just 2 sleeping lofts, overlooking the kitchen and living-room. Both can only be entered through the bathroom up the ladder mentioned in the owners’ description. This limits privacy if desired.

The "lost" dining area brings up the seating situation for eating: There is only a drop-down leaf table in the kitchen with 2 bar stools which are too high and where you can seat only 3.

As mentioned in the offer, there is a Canadian wood cooking stove. We did not use it, since we did not want to get into what seemed to be lengthy preparations for cooking. That left us with a very well used toaster oven (door did not close correctly, cannot be used for baking and broiling; we used it only for toasting bagels) and 4 burner hot plates (again very well used). Microwave was ok. The inadequacy of the kitchen equipment includes also the silverware, glassware and china, especially if you consider sleeping 6: E.g., we had 3 butter knifes, 4 forks, 5 spoons, no breakfast plates, 2 drinking glasses, 2 wine glasses. Most furnishings and kitchenware were of yard sale quality.

Cleanliness: Bathroom and sleeping lofts were fine, but the kitchen needed major attention: before we used the toaster we had to clean it well. Went for some glasses and the frying pans, too. Since guests have to pay a cleaning fee we did not expect this. That goes, too, for the dog fur on the sofa, a bed comforter, the floor in the living-room and in the kitchen. Comparing this accommodation with former ones we had in the Sedona area we would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: Sorry this client does'nt feel they got what they paid for. The average hotel room in Sedona cost as much or more and does not include many idyllic acres, the Oak Creek, an one hundred year old orchard and a Medieval style ranch decor, outdoor barbecue and fire pit, not to mention, beaver, otter, bird life, blue herons, peacocks, bald eagles and fishing. There is a driveway that goes in front of the cottage and maybe it's travelled twice a day at 2 mph, the windows have lovely wood shutters for privacy. The original dining area has been transformed into an enclosed bedroom, and the resulting dining area is a bar top with stools and the stools fit fine underneath. We have also added a small quaint dining table thanks to his recommendation. We have found most of our clients enjoy the expensive leather sofa ($3,500) and coffee table, and especially when the weather is warm they love eating on the private patio located in the orchard. The bedroom furniture was purchased new and quite frankly this is the first person to comment negatively on them. The loft bedroom are divided by a wall,, but open with split rail wood fence, which lends to the ambiance of the unit. The ornate Elmira woodburning cook stove is a wonderful feature. Because it is so big and beautiful, the kitchen set up is not standard and we've had to be a bit creative. If gourmet cooking is your thing, then our other cottage, Piece of Heaven #226189 is perfect for you, because it has a standard style full kitchen with stove and oven unit all in one. Sometimes both units get booked by the same large groups and supplies get moved around, perhaps this was overlooked and if it was we give our apologies. We try our best to be available to our clients and if they had contacted us to make any changes ( we would have gladly put 100 watt bulbs in the lamps) In fact Chris tells people if they need anything even at 3 in the morning to call us. These folks never contacted us for anything, other than locking themselves out and needing an extra key. Most people are enchanted when they enter. It's a charming, rustic unit. Page Springs road is one of the least travelled scenic, historic roads in the state. And it's a 35 mph speed zone and at night there is very little traffic at all. We are pet friendly and we welcome well behave, trained furry family members. They are allowed to stay in cottages while parents enjoy local wineries and restaurants.

Great spot on the creek in the heart of Az wine country!

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay ! Owners Chris and Jacque were very friendly and informative. Cabin itself had plenty of privacy and close to the creek. Great hiking nearby and easy to get a ride to local wineries or into Cottonwood where there are at least nine tasting rooms for local wineries. Kitchen is a little rustic so if your going to cook you will want to bring some things with you. Also dog friendly, which for us was a plus, just keep them on leash outside. Overall great stay, very clean and quaint little cabin! Just beautiful surroundings with outdoor fireplace and bbq, also plenty of places by the creek to bring a bottle of wine and some snacks to enjoy!

So disapointed

  • 1 of 5

So many disappointing things with this property. The cabin that we stayed in was an after thought for the owners. It’s obviously not one of the main rentals and should not be rented at the price of the main cabin. There were 6 different salt and pepper shakers but no salt. The kitchen utensils, pots and pans, knives....oh boy. It was sparse and lacking. We used our old tin foil from our tortillas to fashion a tray to help heat up our food in the toaster oven.

When we first arrived the cabin was cold and smelled of cigarette not just one cigarette but a lot of cigarettes were smoked inside. It was like being in a cave the lighting was soooo poor. We actually had to unscrew a lightbulb from another area to put in place of where a bulb had burned out to hopefully give us a just a speck more light. Our cell phone flashlights were our lighting source in kitchen so that we could find the buttons on the coffee maker.

There was supposed to be a hot tub....and it was dirty so the owners offered to clean it up and get it ready but it wouldn’t be ready for 24 hours. 24 hours out of the 48 hour stay? So sad. Then the tub had a leak so couldn’t be fixed. :(

There was supposed to be a wood burning stove. Sounds nice and toasty right? Well it turned out to be a wood cooking stove. :(. Again, so sad.

This cabin was not on the site. If it were and I saw what we were walking into I would have cancelled.

The cabin has three beds but will only accomadete a “close” family as the bathroom is in the middle of everything. So say you’re upstairs in the far back bedroom, you’ll have to walk through the other bedroom, go down the ladder and then you can use the bathroom. Leave the bathroom and enter the living area where the other bedroom is as well. Also there is a crazy ladder that you have to climb To get to the upstairs bed. If you are not stable on your feet or if you’re older I would not risk it. The lasee is not at an angle it is straight up.

Would not come back. Overly priced!

Let’s end on a positive note though, the property is beautiful. The creek is gorgeous and we did see some river otters. The owners are very nice. There’s cute chickens and peacocks running all throughout the orchard which was basically in our front yard just over the driveway . The other cabin that is actually available on this site is beautiful. That was the cabin we were supposed to have

Owner's Response: I'm a little surprised by it, namely because the couple who stayed seemed happy and content, never letting on for a moment that they were unhappy. They KNEW that they were NOT going to stay in the Piece of Heaven #226189, its was already booked, but we did give the lower price to the person who actually PAID for their stay. We normally close the hot tub toward the end of November (leaves falling, cold, etc) but we went out of our way to make it available to them. It's a very large, unique medieval style tub and takes most of the day to heat up due to it's size. This couple stayed in our other cottage #245470 and rather than address every last complaint, suffice to say we rarely get such a poor review. That cottage is listed with pictures and explanations. This feels more like an assault than a review and one would begin to question motive. Considering they did'nt pay for a thing they seem quite unappreciative for the gift. The person listed as the reviewer DID NOT stay on this property so this review was written in her name erroneously. Jacquie Robinson

Hospitality was amazing. The owner greeted us and introduced us to the animals on the property

  • 3 of 5

The nature trail is fun and well kept, the property is beautiful and all the fresh fruit you could eat. Just open your cottage door and step into the orchard and pick your own fruit. The kitchen is small and doesn't have everything you would need but, it worked for us. I loved it my kids not so much aged 13,15,20 the internet was hit and miss and cell service was horrible. Short drive to Sedona, Jerome, and cottonwood.
