A very special house... a Folly Beach landmark. Two blocks from the ocean and one block from Folly Beach's town center, you can park your car and walk to all that Folly has to offer. Completely restored top to bottom, the home features high ceilings (10 to 14 feet), beadboard walls, sash weighted windows and hardwood floors throughout.. a classic beach house, but fully renovated.
The bath has been updated with modern fixtures and a large walk in shower. The retro kitchen has cement counters, a GE Profile gas cook top and a very cool refrigerator (pun intended). We have recently added a new central heat and air system making this classic cottage even more comfortable.. cooler in the summer and warm and cozy during the winter months.. truly a vacation home for any season. New wicker furniture in the front sunroom makes for the perfect reading spot.
Perched high on a hill, the home is a delight to stay in. With one queen sized bed, the house is really just for two people to spend the night, but with the living room opening to the sunroom and small front porch there is plenty of space to entertain a few friends. Covered back porch (8'x10') is right off kitchen and opens to side yard. Two outdoor showers (hot and cold water) are perfect for a quick rinse after beach activities. Wi-fi internet and an ipod player are our tech and entertainment options. Books and puzzles are highly encouraged.
I was born and raised in Charleston and the surrounding 'lowcountrty' and have enjoyed boating and the beaches here all my life. My hobbies include surfing, painting and photography. I work as a full time Realtor and specialize in residential properties all around Charleston with an emphasis on the beaches and waterfront.
The Owner purchased this house in 2006
As children my family always took us to Folly Beach and anytime relatives visited they would rent a beach house here.. I've always loved the place. My primary residence is in Mt. Plesant (on the other side of downtown Charleston about a half hour away) and for a few years I was looking for a place here as a weekend getaway. When this house became available I knew it was just what I was looking for.. a true beach house and a Folly Beach landmark. Everyone just loves this little house and I have helped many of my real estate clients find other little gems like this.
When staying at the 'Folly House' we park the car and barely drive again until we leave, occasionally going to either end of the beach to park for long beach walks to the tips of the island. Everything else that's needed is within a few blocks. Two blocks to the front beach and pier for surfing, swimming or fishing.. one block to Center Street for all the shops and restaurants. I also use the house as my art studio and all the paintings are my originals. If you want to visit the historic part Charleston it is about a twenty minute drive. Our favorite pastime is just sitting on the front porch 'people-watching' from the perch on the hill. Folly Beach's tag line is 'The Edge of America' which perfectly fits the beach culture that thrives here.
If your looking for a great get away you have found the right place! The location of this property is perfect to the Main Street and to the beach. Its right across the street from Berts Market and Chic Feo (which I highly recommend going too). Overall 5 star home, location and ED (the owner) made our stay great.
My husband and I stayed the weekend at this charming cottage. The owner has updated the house with tankless hot water system, new central heat and air and updated appliances without losing any of the unique character of this quaint bungalow.
The location is perfect for walking to restaurants and shops. The beach and pier is a quick two blocks away and a small taco bar and Food market are across the street.
We will definitely return for our next visit to Folly.
We were there for 4 nights. The place was so clean and neat. It was perfect for our needs. We loved the short walk to the beach, Berts store, the pier, the Tides etc.. I had a delicious crepe from the Tokyo Crepe truck a few blocks down the street. We had breakfast brunch at the Tides a few blocks up the street and it was very good.. Berts store is amazing and you get free coffee 24/7. We had great sushi and sandwiches from there. They have anything else you might need. We were able to rent an umbrella and chairs on the beach. For two straight days we sat on the beach, swam and surf fished. The other two days we used the chairs that are available at the house. We spent the rest of our time sitting on the back porch of the house. We bought oysters and shrimp at Corsbys and ate them on the back porch. We didnot even miss not having TV. I used my Ipad to watch the debate with the internet connection available there. It was a very positive experience and I found the owner (Ed) very helpful.
We stayed at the house for a long weekend and really enjoyed the location and amenities that this house. It is unique and has personality with all beadboard woodwork, unique furniture, artwork, and cute kitchen. Exactly the type of place we look for. Recent updates in the kitchen and bathroom make it a very comfortable place to stay. We made use of the outdoor shower and front porch. We stayed a couple of blocks away last year and really preferred the location at this house - it was great to be across the street from Feo Chico and be able to listen to the bands from the front porch (far enough way that it is not too loud and they end each night by 11) and be a 1 minute walk from a great little upscale grocery store with made-to-order sandwiches and everything you could need (Bert's Market). The owners were very responsive when we had an issue getting connected to the internet (our fault). Only suggested improvements: we lost a bit of time retrieving the key due to outdated info on the information sheet to us - it could use some updating as both check-in and check-out info did not match the house quite right.
We stayed at the cottage for a week for our honeymoon -- it was wonderful! It's the perfect cozy size for two people, beautifully decorated in an eclectic style, and has all the amenities - a kitchen, beach chairs, washer/dryer, and great air conditioning for a respite from the heat. As others have mentioned, we especially enjoyed the lovely sunroom with huge windows looking out on trees -- you feel like you're in a garden or forest, even though it's just 2 blocks from the beach! It's a great location just a couple blocks from beach, shops, and restaurants, so great value. Off-street parking space included so no need to compete with beach-goers for parking. There was some acoustic guitar music from nearby that we found pleasant, but other than that it was very quiet. The owner was responsive to questions in advance of our stay, and we didn't have any need to contact him during our visit since everything went smoothly. We would highly recommend this spot and hope to go back!
We had a wonderful stay here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We loved the charm and character of this cute little beach house. Ed went out of his way to ensure our comfort when the weather turned unseasonably cold. The house is so convenient to the shops on Center street and there is a little convenience/grocery store just steps away. We'd love to return when the weather is warmer to enjoy the pretty beach (which is also very close by). Thanks, Ed!
