Overview

About the property

Chalet, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Head down a secluded mountain road, cross a little bridge, and you'll end up at your own private hideaway - Wald Haus. Wald Haus is a mountain chalet style cabin nestled in the woods near a babbling, stocked trout stream in Western North Carolina.

You'll find an upgraded kitchen with granite countertops and all the items you'll need for cooking that gourmet meal. There are three bedrooms. The master bedroom is huge! There's a comfy, king size bed, a walk-in closet, private bath with separate tub and shower, and a separate balcony.

Downstairs you'll find a bedroom with a queen size bed and another bedroom with two twins. The ground floor has another full bathroom. The great room has two sets of sliding glass doors letting the outside in. There's even a stone fireplace for those chilly nights. The cabin has a movie and book library at your disposal.

The large deck offers you a great place to enjoy the sound of the wind in the trees and the sound of the noisy trout stream. The property is along the stream, but the house itself is not directly on it. The stream is available for fishing or playing and there are trails to hike up the mountain. If you don't feel that adventurous, just chill out in the hammock!

About Erin Stambaugh

My husband and I recently moved back to the U.S. from Stuttgart, Germany, where Chris served in the military. We built 'Wald Haus' as we both love the mountains. We had anticipated that the Army would move us to North Carolina, but since we are now in Colorado, we decided to rent it out.

Erin Stambaugh purchased this chalet in 2009

Why Erin Stambaugh chose Smoky Mountains

My parents have cabins in this part of the Smokies. There's so much to do and 85% of the area is national forest.

What makes this chalet unique

We love white water rafting, hiking, fishing, and boating. This part of the mountains has everything.

Great place to get away from stress. Quietest place on earth, I think

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed this property. Since my buddies couldn't go camping for opening day of trout season, I found this last minute and took my wife for a well deserved away time. Plus I got to fish as well. Walked to the creek to fish, caught a couple. Nice clean cabin made for relaxing. Nicely decorated, loved the upstairs loft master king. Open kitchen, layed out great. Open up the two sliding doors to let fresh air in. Bad storm came thru Thursday night. Could see the lightning, but never heard the thunder or rain. Could be the most soundproof Quietest place I ever been. Slept like a baby. Would highly recommend. Topoca lodge had great food, as did Cork and Beans in Bryson City, a great recommendation from the owners father in the cabin below. Thank you, sir. Cabin was clean, clean, clean. Will be back.

S-E-C-L-U-D-E-D and quiet get away

  • 4 of 5

Nice cabin in a secluded area that is very quiet. If that's what you're looking for then this is the place, no cellphone service (Yea!) and serene atmosphere to disconnect and recharge. The cabin is maintained and has everything you need including dish T.V. if you'd rather watch instead of reading awhile. I was able to finish the last 1/3 of my book (Heaven by Randy Alcorn) and walk a beautiful stream in my waders for over an hour. Perfect. Also if you need it there's a small general store where you can get basic needs and the man there is really nice. This is a real life saver for an experienced cabin renter that thought toilet paper might be included... :-) I packed everything except that! and after a 5.5 hr drive there didn't expect a run back out at night for TP... All in all still a great place. Thank you

Private mountain oasis!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Every detail the owners gave was amazing. Our phones and gps did not work on the mountain which at first was a bit unnerving but the instructions given on what to look for their find the cabin were perfect! We also took advantage of the suggested places to visit. Overall it was an amazing experience, we will definitely be back!!!

Absolutely beautiful cabin & location. Drive way rough on motorcycles.

  • 4 of 5

I loved the cabin! Hard wood floors & celing smelled awesome. The place was clean & well maintained. We hiked the mountain trail & the creek was nice. We were visiting the area to ride the Tali of the Dragon & Cherahala Skyway. The cabin was very close to both. However the gravel driveway was way scarier than the Dragon. Too steep and too much loose rock. Turning the trailer around was not too difficult but it would have been if it was longer than 12'. I would not recommend if you are here to ride motorcycles. If you are here to have a great time with your family it is perfect. I do recomend white water rafting at Nantahala Outdoor Center as well.
