Welcome business or vacation travelers! STAY at our cheerful "pied-a-terre". The 1-bedroom apartment is ideal for 1 person or a couple. An extra guest can use the twin size sofa/bed in the living room.

PROS:

Friendly owners live in the house below.

Walk to 2nd St's restaurants and shops.

Bike or walk to the nearby beaches.

Very walkable neighborhood, fun for people-watching.

Bus stop to downtown Long Beach's restaurants and attractions is a block away.

Plenty of street parking and a permit isn't required.

Private patio below for our guests. Relax to the sound of the water fountain.

CONS:

Small kitchen, but efficient for preparing simple meals.

Not recommended for the disabled - no elevator.

No bathtub for bathing small children.

About Colleen or Al

Al was born in Honolulu and left for the mainland when he was a toddler. He grew up in Long Beach - attended Lakewood High and USC with a strong focus on water sports. Now, he plays bridge and tries to improve on his golfing. Colleen was born in Hong Kong and moved to NYC at age 5. She graduated from the H.S. of Fashion Industries and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Interior design is her forte. She isn't very athletic but will join Al for snow skiing when the conditions are perfect. They both do Argentine tango and ballroom dancing several times a week. Waldo, their 15 year old rescued 'schnoodle' watches over Colleen and keeps strangers at bay with his ferocious bark.

Why Colleen or Al chose Long Beach

Colleen fell in love with the enclosed Spanish courtyard and, although the house was a fixer-upper, she was successful in convincing Al to join her in tackling the remodeling projects. It's now a very comfortable and elegant home.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is in a very walkable neighborhood and only 1 block from 2nd St where there are a variety of restaurants, shops and amenities. Its proximity to the major freeways makes it a perfect "home" base for work and recreation in Los Angeles and Orange County. Of course the mild weather with mostly sunny days is the best benefit of all!

The closest thing to my perfect world ever

To be perfectly honest, I am so miserable to be home. Most people, find some joy in returning home, but, I was home in that wonderful apartment in Belmont Shore. It was as beautiful as the photos and more. I entertained family and friends there so comfortably, they would ask to stop by for a champagne nightcap at our place after a family get together. I am from Belmont Shore/Naples area and much of my family is still in the vicinity, however, there are connections that must travel from Europe and other long distances. It had been a long time since we were all together. I was so proud to be able to host them in our beautiful patio. The fountain sounding a cooling and relaxing sound as we enjoyed refreshments in the lovely settee and table in an intimate area just for us. I was so excited about the apartment I shared photos with practically everyone. When they came over, they said it was the first place they ever saw the apartment actually exceeded the photos. I can not say the stay did not have a couple of little glitches, but Al proved to be quite the handyman. We had some confusions with the wifi, coffee maker and dvd, but that really was just us and all was figured out quickly. Then there was the refrigerator, it was not sealing. The magnetic strip was not attached properly and the thing began to leak, OH NO! We called down to Al and he came up immediately with towels for the water. He quickly discerned the problem, was able to do a temporary fix, stored our perishables for us, did a quick defrost, and in a couple of hours the champagne was colder than ever. Al saved the day for us all! YAY! Everyday, there was this feeling, when you opened the French doors, you had control of letting the world in or keeping it out to be in your own space. Funny to have such a state of empowerment. This place was like a dream for me and my husband. I would stay with them again in a heartbeat. I would buy the pied a terre if I could. Most importantly Coleen and Al so appreciate your privacy. They would never make an unexpected call. You can depend on an email or phone call to announce any entry without your request, like towels they might deliver etc. Essentially. I really should not be writing this at all, because you will steal my pied a terre. But, I love Coleen and Al so much, we do this for them. Love David and Theresa

Everything was perfect.

We stayed at Pied-A-Terre for a week and everything was perfect. We are a 60+ couple on a vacation to visit our daughter. The place was delightful. It is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed.

We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen was well equipped and clean.

The bed was very comfortable and the linens were good quality and in good condition. There were plenty of choices to make our bed just right for us.

They provide a minimum of bath products. Bring your own. And there is a concern about make up staining the bath linens. If you wear make up bring some towelettes. They don't provide any.

There is no assigned parking space, but we never had a problem finding a space that was fairly close. Because of the park across the street it is more difficult to find a parking during the day than it is at night.

We loved our stay here and will definitely stay again!

Doesn't get better than this!

When something is this good there's not much more to be said but I'll try to hit some highlights for someone considering staying here.

1) Feels like you''d want your home to feel. Like home!

2) Very clean

3) Well maintained

4) Attention to details: current and varied reading materials, wide variety of books & movies, enough kitchen equipment to cook a dinner, if you're not into cooking plenty of suggestions for places to eat, enough coffee for the time we spent there, beautifully decorated, guest's guidebook outlining shops and dining in the area as well as household expectations, extra towels & blankets, shampoo

5) Although we didn't use it there is a lovely patio for morning coffee or an afternoon glass of wine

6) Quiet

7) Very comfortable bed

8) Close to beach, shopping, & dining

The owners are very nice. This place will be at the top of our list when we visit again!

We love this home away from home!

This is the second time we have stayed at Colleen and Al's apartment and it will not be the last. The decor is lovely, the bed is SO comfortable (a must for us), bathroom is great, kitchen is perfect for our needs, the patio is so relaxing..... The owners are very welcoming and accommodating. We will be back!

Awesome "Home Away From Home"

Colleen and Al were just wonderful! They met us when we arrived and showed us around. We had everything we needed. The location was great. We could just walk across the street and had great shopping and wonderful restaurants. Great place to stay.
