The historic town of Harrisville center is only 1 mile away with its general store, weaving center, and more lakes, and the town beach. Keene & Peterborough are 12 miles away. Like to golf...many great courses nearby. A great place to relax and unwind !
Historic town of Harrisville: The town of Harrisville is one of the most photographed towns in New England with its lakes and beautiful brick buildings overlooking the town center. Harrisville Designs is a well known center for weaving classes and yarn shop. The town center is within walking distance to the house with its wonderful General store with restaurant and essentials.
Many Lakes to enjoy: Harrisville has 9 bodies of water to enjoy, Harrisville Pond in the center of town has a wonderful beach for everyone to enjoy. You can canoe, kayak, row, on any one of them. Bring your motor boat and water-ski on many of them.
LIKE TO HIKE AND BIKE!!! Mount Monadnock is only 5 miles from the lake and is the most climbed mountain in New England. It is an easy climb and the views are spectacular in all directions. There are quiet roads all around to bicycle on as well as bike trails in nearby Keene and Peterboro.

About Pat or Doug McCarthy
Doug & Pat and their sons built this house in the 80's and enjoyed it for many years and are now living in Harrisville just down the street from the lake. Pat the artist and Doug is a former teacher. Both retired now and are busy with gardening and trying to enjoy life on the easy side!
What makes this House unique
This house has so many wonderful memories for the entire family from fishing from the docks to just sitting on the deck and enjoying the fantastic views of the water and having great barbecues on the deck. And watching our grandchildren enjoy the beach and lake as well. We designed the house so you can see the water from almost every room in the house... so you won't miss anything on the water!

Beautiful setting, comfortable house with lots of light and terrific views, great location
My husband and I and our dog spent a wonderful few days in this lakeside home. An unusually warm fall made it possible to sit out on the large deck, but even from inside the views over the lake are lovely. The kitchen is extremely well equipped! The only glitch was the wifi, as others have noted. Pat sorted it out for us once, but it is unreliable. Cell service is also problematic -- not just in the house, but throughout the area.
It was a special pleasure to be able to stroll across the small road to the lake, and simply step into the kayak. (I didn't have a chance to try the rowboat or canoe.) Well-marked wooded trails start a short walk from the house. We found much to enjoy in the nearby towns. The Harrisville general store is a gem; and Peterborough is a charming spot, with lots of interesting shops, including a good bookstore. Just outside Peterborough is one of the best organic food stores (with cafe) that I have ever encountered anywhere (Nature's Green Grocer). All in all, a great place to stay.
Fall in New Hampshire
We stayed 4 nights in October to do some hiking and enjoy the fall colors. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The views were amazing overlooking the lake.
The master bed was super supportive, not always the case in rentals! Pat and Doug were very accommodating from the beginning to the end of our stay. We would recommend and return in future.
Thanks for taking time to say such nice things about us. So glad you enjoyed your time here in our home in NH you are always welcome back!!! Pat & Doug.
Beautiful lake views
This house was clean with plenty of room and a beautiful lake view. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, dishes and appliances. There was a fire pit outfront with chairs to enjoy a bonfire in the evening overlooking the lake. There are several stairs to get up to the front door as the house is on a slight hill. We were unable to connect to the Internet and the dish satellite on the TV gave us problems probably due to the weather. The house is not directly on the lake but just across the road. We loved being able to take out the rowboat and the kayak especially with the leaves turning color at this time of year and reflecting in the lake. There is a great golf course called Bretwood just 20 to 25 minutes from the house. I would recommend this house. The owners are extremely pleasant and very accommodating.
Property was clean, comfy and just as described. Right by the lake on a quiet road
The hosts were friendly and accommodating. They offered to come show us everything and made sure we were comfortable. Their home was a restful place for a week-long retreat.
That’s our goal to make our home comfortable and a place for people to rest and relax! We are so happy you enjoyed you stay at our home. Pat & Doug.
Enjoyed the Location
You can't beat the lakeside location: away from it all, yet close enough to easily venture into small picturesque towns like Peterborough and Keene. This is just what we needed to escape the stress of our South Florida hurricane season.
The hosts were lovely and attentive.
Had the furniture been comfortable we would have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and rated this home higher. The home needs to be updated. Also, be aware that the home uses well water and the internet can stop working, which was not a major problem for us, but could be for some people...
Beautiful and Relaxing
We had an amazing time and the house was perfect! Waking up to that lake view every morning was bliss!
On Lake Skatutakee in Historic Town of Harrisville. 9 lakes in town, boating, bicycling, hike Mt. Monadnock (it's only 5 miles away), hiking trails, Keene & Peterborough only 10 miles. 50 min to Manchester airport, 1/12 hrs to Boston.
