Private 4 Bedroom, 3 Bath Home on River with Views. Short Stroll To Downtown.
About Jeffrey Shoaf
I came here in 1971 as a ski instructor and fan of skiing and the outdoors. I have been realtor renting and managing properties since 1977 and always enjoy helping visitors to to get the most out of their stay by providing friendly service and extensive local knowledge of the wonderful town I call home.
Jeffrey Shoaf purchased this House in 2000
Why Jeffrey Shoaf chose Aspen
A lovely home in a quite private location that has a country feel but is still only a few blocks from downtown Aspen. The wonderful views of Aspen Mountain and the Roaring Fork River make this a truly unique and special property.

Great Family Aspen Getaway
The home is close to the core near the river and near family parks. Easy to get around to everything whether walking or driving.
The property has a great yard and a pond in the back.
Its an older property but for our purposes with kids, it was perfect and relaxing.
The house owner is fabulous, easy going, great to communicate with, and a true Aspen Gem!
We hope to get back soon and stay again!
Good location, pretty view that's it
While the house had a nice layout and very good location to downtown Aspen- the property has seen better days. Not only is the eclectic home decor a miss, but there are plenty of things that make this home a bad choice. 1) the twin beds in one of the rooms need to be replaced. They squeak so much that you cannot get a good night's sleep. 2) All the pillows are very cheap and uncomfortable.3) The kitchen is very well equipped except missing basic items like a Pyrex baking pan (of course on day we were leaving, looks like they may have been bringing back these type of items). 4) bathrooms etc all outdated 5) hotub too small for a big house 6)I didn't appreciate having to pay 100% upfront over 6 months in advance and being charged a HUGE fee to get my deposit back. (I used a cc bc I didn't see writing a check as option). It certainly left a bad taste in my mouth even though owner gave part of it back. Been to Aspen a dozen times but this home won't make the cut next time.
First off, we do apologize that your experience was so poor. The house was built in the 1980's and while it is an older house, we do our best at keeping it clean, fully accessorize and comfortable for our guests, many of whom are repeat customers and have left some very positive reviews. We feel that the photos we have posted on the website and description we have provided are more than accurate to the product we are presenting.
As it relates to the credit card fees, we are sorry this caught you off guard but we have done our best to make this charge very clear by including it in our first response to any email inquiry we get, stating it on the VRBO website in the rates section and including it on the rental agreement which is attached to all quotes we send to potential renters. It is a fee that is out of our hands and one that we split with all our renters out of fairness to both parties. Please know that within the VRBO payment system, there is a clear option for all renters to pay by echeck to avoid the credit card fees entirely.
We do appreciate your comments and take all reviews to heart.
Great house, classic location with valley and mountain views
We really enjoyed the house and hot tub, with deck and views across the Roaring Fork at Aspen Mountain. Comfortable beds and living room furniture where we watched the Super Bowl. It really is a special place from an era gone by. Carpet and some amenities are a bit dated and not everything works perfectly but it is a charming and relaxing place, walking distance to downtown.
The property is well maintained and equipped, we had a very good time. The owner was very kind and always available to solve any problem with the property or our stay. It is also conveniently close to the slopes.
Family Long Stay
Our family from Australia stayed in this property from 5 Dec 2015 - 23 Jan 2016 . Together with our three kids (8, 11, 13) and their grandfather, we quickly felt like 981 King Street was home. Jeff is a wonderful host and a thoughtful manager – he decorated the house for Christmas and ensured the property was well maintained throughout our stay, from clearing snow to ensuring the hot tub was serviced, clean and…hot. The property has plenty of space for a large family with an sunny living / dining / lounge room, everything you’d need (and more) in the kitchen, lots of linen and low maintenance hard wood floors. The walk in robe in the Master bedroom is enormous, and there is plenty of storage / cupboards around the house – which was great for our long stay. We were also well catered for when taking a day off the mountain with new TV and cable, high speed Wi-fi, board games, books as well as lots of space for the kids to play outside, including around the lovely pond (and down to the river). You get unobstructed views of the mountain - great for the fireworks (from the hot-tub if you like...). It's in a quieter neighbourhood..so no night or day noise ... and it’s an easy walk downtown but it is also very close to the free Hunter Creek bus (only 2 stops to City Market...but I'd recommend Clarkes). You don’t need a car but if you have one, you can easily park 2 or 3 off the street. Can’t recommend this property enough – Jeff is a great guy and makes sure your stay in one of his properties will be comfortable and memorable.
Our family is spread out over Colorado and we met in Aspen for a long weekend. It was April, last weekend of skiiing and snowed over a foot, couldn't have been more perfect. Our grandson is 8 months old and the house is well designed to accomodate babies and children. Everyone spent time in the hot tub and the views of Aspen Mountain were incredible. Aspen is a fun, vibrant town and this house is located within walking distance of downtown. I would highly recommend this house for anyone wanting to have a great time in a great house in a great town!
