Private, stylish 2BR waterfront cottage in NoFo Wine Country

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 14 nights

About the property

2 BR/1.5 Baths (+ outdoor shower) with panoramic water views; sleeps 4-5

An uncommonly stylish and incredibly private modern beach house, with spectacular panoramic views of Long Island Sound and the gentle curve of the coastline. Secluded and surrounded by protected sand dunes but NO houses west along the beach – as far as the eye can see – this century-old, handsomely renovated house features massive picture windows framing Long Island Sound, a two-level deck, and BBQ/fire pit. A private 50-yard path leads directly from the fire pit to a serene private stretch of beach. Enjoy stunning sunsets, walks along the beach and outdoor dining and relaxation -- or just gaze out the huge windows at the Sound. On cool evenings, enjoy the warmth of the wood-burning fireplace or make an outdoor fire and roast marshmallows.

The light and airy interior features contemporary and vintage mid-century furnishings, gourmet kitchen, large windows on all sides, sleek hardwood floors, fireplace, high cathedral ceilings and original art throughout.

Tucked away at the end of a private country lane, in a friendly beach community, the cottage is ideal for couples and small families. It's perfect for long walks on the beach; swimming in the Sound; outdoor dining, cocktails and sunning on the decks; easy biking; golf; and excursions just minutes away to the North Fork’s famed wineries, farm stands, and seafood restaurants.

Dog-friendly (one well-trained dog preferred), but not available for weddings, parties, proms or group shares.

About Neil

My wife and I fell in love with the North Fork on our first visit in 2006 and immediately began looking for a vacation home. We love the laid-back, bucolic, anti-Hamptons feel of the area, the friendliness of the people, and the burgeoning food-and-wine scene.

Neil purchased this house in 2007

Why Neil chose North Fork

This small waterfront house had something we never dreamed we could have: incredible privacy and unending water views, with an essentially private beach.

What makes this house unique

You are unlikely to find a house as private as this, with no houses to the west. The views of the beach and Sound are all yours. Hemmed in by the bluff and protected sand dunes, it is far removed from the summer hubbub of Goldsmiths Inlet and the public parking lot at the other end of Sound Avenue.

Car: necessary

In the midst of the North Fork's rustic charms -- its renowned farm stands, vineyards and antique shops -- the house is just minutes from some three dozen wineries and tasting rooms, and only 7 miles from the historic fishing village of Greenport and ferries to Shelter Island and the Hamptons.

Private beach with access from private path.

Goldsmiths Inlet (wading/swimming/recreation area).

Biking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, nearby public golf & tennis.

Long Island's finest wineries with daily wine tastings.

Local farm stands for fresh produce and pies.

Restaurants, movies and shopping in nearby Southold (4 mi), Greenport (7 mi), and Riverhead (15mi). Nearby ferries to Shelter Island & the Hamptons.

Other Activities: kayaking, shopping

Amazing Cottage/Stay

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I are old hats at the home away game. We've stayed in a variety of apartments/homes across the country. Some have been great, some not so great. Yet, this has been our most enjoyable stay yet. Our stay for 4 nights was truly amazing. The house was perfectly clean and so well appointed (full sets of glasses, dishes, working wood burning fireplace, great appliances, cookware etc.). Additionally, the owner, Neil, was so organized, helpful, and professional. In sum, it is basically a home that is as clean and well-appointed for guests as it would be for the owners themselves . Based on my experiences, this is something that is quite rare. The house is such a perfect spot; it has stunning views, is secluded to the west, and is only minutes from so many great spots on the North Fork. In my opinion, the view simply can't be beat on Long Island. Hands down a great situation all around and we are already working out our calendars in preparation for the next stay. Thank you, Neil!

Perfect beach house in the north fork!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and another couple stayed here for a long weekend to enjoy some apple picking and visit our favorite local wineries. The location in Peconic is very convenient to all of the offerings in the North Fork, but the best part is definitely the beautiful beach where the house is located. Even though on the sound side, the beach was sandy and perfect for long walks and felt very private. Our dog loved waking up each morning to the beautiful beach walks - I think he's still depressed we're not there anymore. The house itself is amazing. We've stayed at several other rental houses in the north fork, and this one is definitely up there in terms of quality and decor. Although it's not a large house, it is more than comfortable inside with all of the thoughtful little touches. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen is very functional with all high end appliances. Last, but not least, the owner Neil was a pleasure to interact with. He has a very helpful guide to the house and the area, which is very thorough and organized.

Great property with beautiful path to the beach

  • 5 of 5

The is a nice cottage that has a beautiful path to the beach on the Long Island sound. The walk to the beach is 30 seconds along a lovely path with rugosa roses (watch out for some poison ivy). I ventured out to the shore daily for peaceful walks and some interesting shell collecting. The sound sunsets at this house are also very impressive.

The cottage itself is cute with nice living areas that have complete view of the beach. The kitchen is functional. Pots and pans are new. There are ample plates, etc. We do a lot of in-house meal preparation so I am always glad for a kitchen that has what I need.

Our rooms were fine and the beds are very comfortable. Perhaps some new dressers or a closet might be helpful, but we did do OK and that was a minor point. I slept well every night. My husband used the outdoor shower and he loved it. The full bathroom in the house is perfectly fine for sharing. We found extra towels and bedding we needed and the laundry in the basement is adequate for a week stay.

Maybe this should have been my first point, but this owner, Neil was very accommodating. During the week, Neil notified us that he needed to stop by the house for something so we did meet and talk about the area. He gave us some nice suggestions for wineries and restaurants. We had no problems in the house during our stay, but I feel confident that if we did, Neil would be available to address them.

We love the north fork and found the location of this house to be ideal for everything we wanted to do: wineries, restaurants, Greenport town, biking. This was our 4th visit to the fork and we hope to rent again with Neil.

I don't think anyone could be disappointed with this cottage. It really is exactly what is shown and it is clear that owner cares about his properly and his guests. Thanks Neil.

Just returned home and missing it already. This is the North Fork's best kept secret. Thank you Neil and Sharon. You have an amazing beach home and keep it so neat and clean and stocked with everything imaginable. Can't wait til next year to do it all over again. Another year with memories to last a lifetime.

Realxing Valentine's Day Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Don't be fooled by this cottage's setting - it may have the perfect beach location, advantageous for the warmer months, but it's also a cozy retreat in the winter as well! We chose to spend our long Valentine's Day / President's Day weekend here and we couldn't have asked for a better location. Neil was prompt, courteous, and very helpful in organizing our stay. The cottage was very well stocked in all aspects from kitchen utensils, to books and puzzles, to even fresh towels. We kept warm by the fire with our puppy and enjoyed the panoramic scenery, venturing out onto the secluded snowy beach to explore. Thanks again Neil for allowing us to conveniently escape the city to your beautiful home.

Lovely cottage home on the beach

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Long Island and we could not have been more pleased with the cottage. We had long wintery walks on the secluded beach followed by evenings by the fire. The kitchen is beautifully appointed, the house charming with great picture windows overlooking the water. The owners were very helpful and welcoming. Can I give it a "6"? We will definitely plan to stay again!
