Pete, Jack and I love all that our country house has to offer - great hikes, fresh air, seasonal changes, and lots of great culture in nearby Woodstock and the surrounding area. Pete's an artist and Marietta's a writer and we find endless inspiration just outside the door. Some of our favorite moments have been taking the short hike around our property, kicking around streams, climbing the rock quarry, sitting in the moss forest, collecting nature's treasures.
Marietta purchased this House in 1994
Why Marietta chose Woodstock
We were NYC people looking to move to the country and saw our Woodstock house as the ideal happy medium -- gorgeous setting, charming house with architectural history (Peter has a passion for old buildings), nearby culture and like-minded people, and only 2.5 hours from NYC. We're continually moved by the seasonal moments.
What makes this House unique
Quiet, serenity of nature with little else disturbing us. The sheer beauty of the surrounding pine forest with its grandeur and nuance. The proximity of world-class art, music, and dining just minutes to Woodstock, Saugerties, and Rhinebeck. The opportunity to entertain our friends and family in a beautiful, welcoming place. We always have a great time!

Enjoyable late fall week
We spent a week at Marietta's craftsman mountain cottage in Woodstock the week of Thanksgiving. The physical location in proximity to Woodstock is ideal.... it's about an 8 minute drive to downtown. The cottage is surrounded by pine and oak woods. The house itself is charming and comfortable. There were absolutely no problems. We will come again!
If you want to be closer to nature and all it's wonderful sounds this place fulfills. The minute you start driving up to the house city stress seems to evaporate.
Glad your enjoyed your time!
Warm and Cozy
A secluded hide-a-way three minutes from the center of Woodstock. The kitchen was wonderful and the screenhouse pagoda with a great outdoor space to relax. The stairs are difficult to negotiate with bad knees and a bad back, but I wouldn't hesitate for another visit. I certainly got some much-needed exercise.
Thank you for everything.
My family and i had such an incredible time at this charming little place! The pictures do not do it justice! The layout is so much more open and comfortable The backyard proved to be a splendid little place to have lunch and play games. And looking over the wall felt like we were in a castle looking down upon the forest waiting for a seige. Peter and Mary were wonderful hosts and even gave us the incredible history of the house and the surrounding area. We fell in love with this little cottage.
Thank you! We're always so happy when our guests enjoy what our house and property have to offer! You were wonderful guests and always welcome you back!
relaxing charming house
We spent thanksgiving weekend at this wonderful house near Woodstock ( a 5 min drive away) and left feeling relaxed and refreshed and really not wanting to leave. The house is far nicer than the photos and is a perfect getaway with wonderful hikes outside the door ( our son and dog enjoyed climbing in the quarry outside the door) and we all enjoyed a great hike 2 mins away down the road. We lit the fire, cooked some food ( the kitchen is very well stocked) and slept like babies. Marietta was a wonderful host and got back to us immediately when we texted with some questions. Our son loved the sweet little kids bedroom. We loved the views out the back patio and seeing the sun rise every morning was a treat. We would definitely return in the spring or early summer.
Comfortable, well-appointed house in the woods very near Woodstock and Saugerties
House had many nice features and many amenities like the grill and cabana. Property is set way back from the road and very quiet. Kitchen is well-equipped and designed well to accommodate 4-6 people. Well thought out instructions to handle most questions in advance. Nearby excellent restaurants include Red Onion and The Bear Cafe. Pick up provisions at the Meat Market in Woodstock. Hiking opportunities all around within 15 to 45 minute drive. Very enjoyable
Thank you so much, Thomas, for staying at our house, I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the rain! For shorter more relaxed hikes, next time check out the paths right outside the door. Our house abuts protected land, the Sloane Preserve, which leads through beautiful ravines and geologic specimens. However, for spectacular Catskill views, you're right, at this time of year, the best ones like Overlook can be found as close as 10 minutes away.
Regardless, you were stellar guests and we look forward to your return!
Sitting on 88 acres of State preserved land and trails (Sloan Gorge Preserve) we are beautifully located to all Hudson Valley attractions -- hiking out our back door (and more!), 3 minutes to the Village Green in Woodstock, 20 minutes to skiing at Belleayre/Hunter, 5 minutes to swimming holes, KDM Tibetan Monastery, minutes to HITS horse activities, just 20 minutes from Omega Institute, 30 minutes to Rhinebeck and Hudson...just ask!
