Perfect Northern Michigan getaway
Sodding's Sandcastle is magical. This is a perfect vacation location for those looking to cozy up with a fire, watch sunsets on the beach, and walk the beautiful Lake Michigan coastline. You can go miles in either direction.
We thoroughly enjoyed cooking in their kitchen, there's plenty of firewood available, and the views are spectacular. You'll find yourself close enough to Harbor Springs and Good Hart that supplies are within reach but far enough out to feel blissfully 'away.' The sunsets are spectacular, you can watch them from the beach, one of many decks, or from the comforts of the house if you so choose.
The craftsmanship of the home and impeccable upkeep is impressive. The lines are spectacular. The Soedings are perfect hosts, this home is a treasured gem. I offer my highest recommendations, we'll be back!
north woods perfection
We spent a week...six adults, two little boys. Lake Michigan at the bottom of the steps, sound of the waves, plenty of sand castle building and rock hunting, very comfortable and charming house, sunsets you pretty much have to see to believe.
Erika and Otto a pleasure to work with. The Pond Hill Farm shouldn't be missed, likewise the Kilwin's chocolate tour, and the Tunnel of Trees. Our last day the six year old said "We should live here." Nobody disagreed.
A little bit of heaven
My family has vacationed at the Sand Castle a few times and love every minute of it!!! The house is the perfect lake front rental with amazing views of Lake Michigan and a lovely beach just steps away. We got very lucky with weather between seasons this time and my son had a blast finding rocks with his buddy. The home is well appointed, clean and comfortable. Access to Harbor Springs, Cross Village and Petosky is fantastic. A glass of wine and a soak in the spa tub after a long beach walk was a fantastic bonus. We cannot wait to go back.
Thank you very much for your nice review. We certainly appreciate it and look forward to having you as guests again in the future.
A Relaxing Refuge for all Seasons
Our most recent stay was during ski season this year, but we have also rented during the summer and during the off-season. Our family loves this cozy home-away-from-home, and we look forward to returning many times in the future.
The center of the home is the great room by the fieldstone fireplace with a three-story wall of windows overlooking Lake Michigan. There a huge deck/balcony area to relax, grill & eat outside, and a stairway that goes down the dune to the beach. The kids love exploring for rocks and swimming in the summer (but remember to bring water shoes).
The kitchen is right off the great room - it's small but it features new appliances & countertops and all the cookware and gadgets most people need; there is also a breakfast bar for four or five people in addition to the full dining table. The beds are really comfortable and all the sheets and towels are very new. There are two king bedrooms on the main level, and two bedrooms upstairs with two twins each, so the kids (or additional friends) have plenty of room to themselves. The bathrooms are very contemporary; the main bathroom downstairs has a shower and a separate jacuzzi tub with a view into the woods.
There is wifi to keep the family entertained at night and/or to check in with work if you must (i.e., to make sure your cell phones work), so you you can be as connected or disconnected as you want to.
Our experience with this rental has been outstanding. The place is very well maintained, very clean and well worth the drive to get there. It's a wonderful break from a hectic life and we return home refreshed and recharged.
We appreciate your positive review. Harbor Springs in the winter is very special with two ski areas close by, Nub's Know and Boyne Highland. Enjoying the fresh air on the slopes and then relaxing in the evening by the fireplace.
Thank you for being valuable guests.
Loved, loved, loved it!!!
Our family of 6 stayed a few days at this perfect chateau. Even though the weather did not cooperate with us we enjoyed every minute of our stay! We did not get to enjoy the many decks however the fireplace was a wonderful, warm trade off - with an over abundance of wood.
All rooms were exactly as pictured. Spotlessly clean and fresh. There were more than enough towels and linens. Wonderfully comfortable beds.
The modern kitchen was a real treat.....better than home! All appliances were beautiful and additional small appliances came in very handy.
The Soedings were very enjoyable hosts to work with. A very sweet couple.
Oh and the view....what can I say??!! The view! Exactly what we were looking for!
We also ventured out on a couple road trips in the area. Beautiful. Hit the fall colors about perfect timing.
A Dream Vacation for Our Family of Four
There's is no other place my family wishes to stay for a week-long vacation. Our children, both under five, love the stunning sunsets, playing on the beach in a few steps, and dining outside. We have vacationed here on several occasions. It is well worth our seven-hour drive from Chicago. The home feels secluded in a beautiful patch of trees on Lake Michigan. Inside, the rustic meets contemporary. The classic A-frame has a beautiful fireplace and boasts modern kitchen appliances. I love all the little things that come in use with the home as well, such as a barbecue, bountiful kitchen gadgets, and both a formal and informal dining area. The two bedrooms on the third floor, which have expanded, are more than perfect for my children. All the beds are quite comfortable and the bathrooms are very suitable for children while being luxurious for parents. In regards to seeing the sights, this home is in a perfect location. Good Hart and Cross Village are a short drive north on the impeccable M-119. Harbor Springs is a mere seven miles south. We love visiting Turkey's for pizza and I'm sure once my children are older, we will ski at one of the nearby resorts. If you are looking for a family-friendly place to spark new memories, you have found the right place. We feel this home would also be perfect for a romantic getaway from the big city. Either way, be prepared to slow down and enjoy Lake Michigan.
