Overview

About the property

Great for groups, impeccable house with luxurious furniture, 5 bedrms 3+bath

One of prettiest houses in the area. Short term rental only. Across narrow street from beachfront.

"I feel like I am in a magazine, it is so beautiful". Renter

Wend your way down the ribbon of highway that is 26 to this dreamy town of old family shingle clad homes, much like what you would see in Cape Cod. Go a mile past Seaside North to the Dairy Queen, turn west on Pacific Way into Gearhart city center...the cute grocery and Pacific Way Cafe. You are almost there. Turn right onto Marion Avenue. When you get to McMenamins, go another two blocks.

Yippee! Your trip is over.

Unique because of the amazing outlook, you will gasp when you walk inside this house. You see the vast Pacific Ocean from every window. The light is inspiring...and calming.. Tillamook Head on the left and views of Washington on the right...amazing.! Then walk down the path through the dunes and wiggle your toes in the sand. Pheasant, pelicans and deer, plus two coyotes this season and whales make this feel like you are so close to nature. Last year we had 64 big elk sleeping in our yard. It is sure to make you forget your office. Walk through the dunes to the waves.

Spend the day making sand castles.

Designer touches like a new luxurious Pottery Barn sofa, elegant sheets and a ship hatch coffee table are all fun. Spotless...house has a professional cleaner come before every renter.

Just a pitching wedge from the first green of Gearhart Golf Course and a short stroll (2 minutes)to McMenamin's Sand Trap brew pub, this home is perfectly located for privacy and convenience.

Designed by the architect Moran in 1945 for Jerry Porche, our special home sits on three big lots at the end of a long driveway up the hill. An open floor plan is inviting. Special to this home is an upstairs master bedroom where wicker chairs offer a retreat with a view and a cozy nook for reading or card games. A queen bed suite with comfy mattress and sitting area plus view are just to the left of the front door.

Two of the 5 bedrooms are in an annex with another sitting room, bathroom and pet area.....great for teenagers or family members. The annex is brightly decorated with kites and body surfing boards. You'll love the cheerful rooms and wind protected porch.

Our favorite breakfast spot is on the east side of the house which is sunny and offers another view...of the coast range.

Lots of off street parking and level play yard add to the appeal. Children and pets are welcome, ten people maximum including children.

About Diane and George

This is a family home and we are an old Gearhart /Portland family. We have been involved with the starting of the 4th of July Parade and writing of the first book 'History of Gearhart' . We also designed the Gearhart flag you see all around town. The owners are the two people on the left, brother and sister. Our parents bought the house in about 1973 and they were part of the closely knit group of friends from Portland who played golf and had cocktail parties frequently...hanging a towel out your house window signaled your house was cocktail central that evening...come on over. Our patio is a perfect spot to view the sun set.

Diane and George purchased this house in 1975

Why Diane and George chose Northern Coast

Open floor plan with large main room seating 12. This is a stunning example of mid century modern designed by Roi L. Morin in the style of John Yeon. Lots of windows focus on the 180 degree ocean view. ! Breathtaking light. Prettier than a beach cabin. And we have a quiet but central Gearhart location.....not Highlands or Pinehurst or Surf Pines. We are on the small hill between the Gearhart Golf Course and the ocean.

Even if your family can only come for three days, consider treating yourself to a couple of quiet, blissful days to yourself after family leaves.

We have a new firepit for marshmallow roasting and s'mores.

What makes this house unique

Peaceful .....so very peaceful. All you can hear at night is the crashing of waves.....yet walkable to everything including the bakery and store and golf and beach. I am amazed by the light flowing into the large windows, even on a cloudy day. The open floor plan offers a fun family experience where the cook gets to interact with all the inhabitants. We do not rent it for wedding ceremonies or receptions but attendees are welcome...they may walk to McMenamins.

We are not a gourmet kitchen with unbeachy granite counters - just a fun beach kitchen, fully equipped. And the patio is spacious with two tables...glass walls protect you from the wind.

Incredible sunsets filtered by Oregon forest fire smoke...gorgeous.

  • 5 of 5

Actually this was family Labor Day fun at our own house so I will have a guest review their stay.

"This house offers a big open floor plan with three couches, comfortable seating and "sleeping soundly" beds. Rooms are large and carpeted so the younger kids roll around on the floor with the resident 6' stuffed bear. Our routine= Morning walk to Pacific Way bakery for coffee and goodies, walk back on the beach, badminton on the lower flat lot, driving lessons on the beach for 15 year old son, Golf for some. Patrick makes three delicious pizzas on the BBQ for late lunch, hang out on the patio and beach, reading and games, clean up for going out to cocktail party, dinner back on the patio to watch the orange sunset and 65+ elk in the dunes. We also saw 4 eagles, a bunny in the yard and colorful birds visiting the birdbath. Whales too."

Great Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

Our multi-generational family had a great time at this house. It was roomy and the furniture and beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well supplied with dishes and cooking utensils. The view is great and the walk to the beach not too bad. It was a very quick drive to the beach when we had too much to carry. There's great yard space in front and back to play outdoor games. The glass walled deck was really nice and allowed us to sit outside without getting windblown. It was a great place for our family vacation!

Quintessential Oregon Coast!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic, sweeping view of the coast, all the way from Tillamook Head to Cape Disappointment! Whether it's dark and stormy or clear and sunlit, it's impossible to get too much of that view.

The house has great access to the long Gearhart beach, for day-long ventures to dip toes in the water. And it is equally perfect for staying inside, playing games, reading, and enjoying the shelter from the storm.

The bedrooms are warm and cozy, the kitchen is great for us foodies, and the common areas are wonderful for group or family gatherings.

Absolutely amazing view

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this house even on a stormy weekend. We could watch the weather roll in from across the ocean from huge windows in almost every room. The large, open plan of the house provided us with plenty of space for indoor family activities and cooking cozy meals. We felt like we were getting a true beachy experience even when walks on the beach weren't ideal.

Perfect in any weather!

  • 5 of 5

This house has wonderful views of the ocean from all the main-house bedrooms. Even when it was raining and we didn't want to head to the beach we still felt we were a part of the coastal action. We watched the boats, the pelicans, the storms, all pass by right from the living and dining room. With only a few blocks to walk to the pub, we were in heaven. And when the sun did come out - wow - we were loving every bit of the patio.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking to melt into the coast - rain or shine.

Wonderful Week at the Oregon Coast

  • 5 of 5

We were also a multigenerational family gathering & this house was perfect! Beds were comfy, towels plentiful, kitchen fully equipped & views galore. Ample space for three families with kids from 2.5 to 13.

A perfect location for a surprise wedding - local officiant found online, bride's bouquet made by the local florist and deli catering baked a delicious carrot cake topped with a pair of white chocolate starfish.

Warrenton Deep Sea, a 20 minute drive on 101 North, provided the freshest Dungeness crab and razor clams for other meals.

We'd return in a heartbeat.

Our address is 1698 N. Marion. The locator VRBO map is a block too far south.

We are located very close to the beach...almost ocean front and across Ocean Avenue just 2 blocks north of McMenamins Restaurant

and The Sand Trap at 1698 N Marion on the west side of Hwy 101 and close to the ocean..which is just one lot away. We are a few minutes north of bustling Seaside and just west of the first green of the Gearhart Golf Course. We sit on a slight rise with a fabulous view of the ocean from Astoria to Tillamook Head. From Hwy 101, go west on Pacific Way. Go into Gearhart toward the ocean and take a right on Marion. Go past the big Gearhart by the Sea and we are on the low ridge on the west side of the street...ideal quiet location. There is a path from our house directly to the beach through the dunes.
