About the Property

Country Estate, 6 Bedrooms, 6 Baths, (Sleeps 13)

Please note that during the SUMMER, we ONLY RENT the house by the week.

This is a very large and comfortable home. The house was built over 300 years ago but was recently remodeled. There are 5000 sq ft. of living space on two levels. The 6 bedrooms are all upstairs, each with its own bathroom. All the bedrooms have air conditioning and are all furnished with comfy king sized beds.

Each room was professionally decorated in keeping with the feel of Provence. All the bedrooms have their own private bathroom with shower and/or tub and toilet. Each bedroom has an individually programmable air conditioning/heating unit. The windows have screens on them so that you can leave the windows open for the cool night air.

On the Ground level is the gourmet kitchen, an oversized dining room with a vaulted ceiling, (The large farm table accommodates at least 14 people) and the living room. The library is in the living room and contains books in French and English as well as games such as cards, monopoly and scrabble.

We give all our renters a welcome basket with a bottle of our estate olive oil, 2 bottles of wine, some coffee, and some other goodies incase you are a bit hungry. If you want us to do so, we can arrange to have the kitchen stocked with food so that you can sleep late on you first morning. We are happy to make arrangements for a private chef, golf, biking or cooking classes at an additional fee.

If you are thinking of getting married in France, this is a beautiful location for your garden wedding and reception. Our experienced wedding planner will make your day unforgettable.

Next to the historic main house is a 150 year old stone barn. The 25-acre property is surrounded by 1500 acres of open space. This location is rich in history, allowing for lots of sightseeing.

Upon your arrival, you will enter the property via an automatic gate; follow the gravel path to the barn where we will greet you.
We will give you a quick tour of the house and and be available should you have questions about restaurants and shop.

From the terrace, complete with teak tables and chairs, you can enjoy a view of the entire property as well as the swimming pool (15 X 5 meters).

Everyone who has stayed here has had a marvelous time.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: In the fall of 2007, we visited this wonderful property and it was love at first sight. Six months later we became the proud owners. We presently live in the San Francisco Bay Area. But in the 1980’s, we made our home in Aix-en-Provence. Our children enjoyed living in France as much as we did and it became obvious to us that someday we would have to come back. For over 30 years, Jacques worked in the High Tech Industry and traveling the world was part of his job. Since we have a French background (we are bilingual) and loved living in the South of France, we decided that this would be an ideal place to buy a big old house. We also thought that we would like to share it with others but in that case it would have to be really special in terms of comfort. After purchasing this property, we furnished it with authentic Provencal furniture, using classical colors and materials along with a touch of high tech and a bit of a California flair. The combination is unique for the region.

Why the Owner Chose St-Martin-de-Crau, France:
People from all over the word agree that the South of France is an amazing place. The weather is exceptionally beautiful. The air smells of sun and lavender. Our home is only a short drive away from some of the most picturesque villages in Provence. Worth mentioning are Les Baux de Provence, the famous fortified village of the XIV century as well as Saint Remy de Provence, where Vincent Van Gogh painted, and where Nostradamus, the Middle Age visionaries was born. To the south of the house is the 2000-year-old city of Arles, which is famous for Roman baths, an amphitheater, and an arena. Arles is also the capital of the Camargue region, an area well known for the white wild horse and bullfights. We love this region because there is easy access to an International Airport in Marseille, the fast TGV trains to Paris and the auto routes. You can sit at the pool or go to the beach. You can fix a simple meal in the kitchen, drink a cup of espresso in a village square or eat at a 3-star restaurant. You can visit Roman archeological sites or shop for the latest fashions. But the appeal is also a beautiful 300-year-old stone farmhouse on 25 acres and surrounded by 1500 acres of open space.

The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
In addition to sight seeing, this area offer a tremendous opportunity for bicycling, hiking, climbing and of course eating. Wonderful French cuisine and wines can be found in the surrounding towns and villages. Local wineries welcome visitors all during the year and olive groves that produce the best oil in all of France are abundant in this area. In Provence, there is something to do during every season of the year. Among those things are festivals and musical events. Visitors will find that our home provides world class lodging and yet remains a very comfortable place for families and friends to gather together and relax.
