Cape Refreshment is an ideal escape, where you can shake off the snow, recharge your batteries and melt into the soft glow of the the most spectacular sunsets anywhere.

Peace. Privacy. Open spaces. Cape San Blas is an oasis in a busy world, and Cape Refreshment is located in one of the quietest portions of the cape. Just three homes share your quiet paved road that extends from the beach to the bay. About everything a person could hope for in a romantic couple’s get-away, a honeymoon, a private family vacation or just a time of refreshment can be found here, in abundance, and Cape Refreshment delivers all the cape has to offer.

Located about mid-way between St. Joseph State Park and the narrows where the cape turns North (the Stump Hole), our central location is blessed with the clear waters of the gulf, close proximity to the stores a short drive to the south. The bay-side dock offers easy access for kayaker’s, boaters, waders, fishermen and the world famous scalloping of St. Joseph Bay.


Cape Refreshment is beach-front with an unobstructed view. Every room in the home looks over the turquoise waters and lapping waves of the Gulf of Mexico. Even the large shower and Jacuzzi tub in the master bath can be opened to the view of the gulf if you desire. Every bedroom opens through large screened sliding glass doors to a deck or balcony, allowing all guest the opportunity of being lulled to peaceful sleep by the gentle sound of rolling waves.

Cape Refreshment is our oasis, and has never been on formal rental program. We spend at least 2 months a year in the home and offer limited rentals when we are not on site. Cleaning and landscaping are performed by trusted friends that know our home and the way we like it kept. Our hope is to develop a small group of customers and friends that will treat our home the way they would like their home to be treated. Some repeat guests may have the opportunity to use recreational equipment stored on site.

Cape Refreshment is perfect for small groups or couples, and the main floor is the ideal combination of quality and functionality for a couple that seeks a time of intimacy. Little things like high thread count quality cotton sheets, whirlpool tub, good kitchen appliances and cooking equipment with a well stocked spice cupboard differentiate our home from the typical vacation rental.

For the person that must keep business alive during vacation, DSL, Secure Wi-FI, Print/Copy/Fax and 25 minutes of Long Distance via land line are provided.

Our deck is one of Cape Refreshment’s greatest features. Many homes offer nice decks, but few have the full combination of protected and open decks offered here. The deck at Cape Refreshment extends across the entire western face of the home. As you step out of the large glass doors, the first half of the deck is fully enclosed by roof and screen, well lit and has a large ceiling fan. This section allows full enjoyment of the gulf for storm watching, sipping breakfast coffee, eating meals at the teak-wood table, escaping the bugs if they are bad or just getting out of the sun. The second half of the deck is a fully exposed sun deck with no obstructions from one end to the other, ideal for working on the perfect bronze that sun lovers seek, watching dolphins chase fish in the waves, feeding the gulls or just watching the people and sites along the beach.

Our pergola sits on the beach, right atop the dune line, looking due west over the Gulf, offering the ideal spot to enjoy the magnificent sunsets for which Cape San Blas is famous.

Fishermen, water sports fans, bird watchers and nature lovers will find everything they hope for, and this is what originally drew us to the cape. Beach lovers for years, we set out to find a place that was not over developed, had exceptional outdoor opportunities, but offered reasonable access to shopping, dining and social activities. It only took us 5 years to find it, but we believe the Cape offers it all, and think you will too.

Our home is not the largest, or most lavish home on the beach. If you come to the beach so you can swim in a pool, play video games and watch movies, this is not the place for you. But on more than one occasion, people have stopped along the beach and made comments like 'this is the prettiest home on the beach' or 'the quintessential beach house'. If rest, relaxation or water sports in a comfortable, understated, yet executive quality home is your idea of the perfect beach get-away, then your search is over. Cape Refreshment is your destination.

If you need space for a larger group, but still want beach front and seclusion, I would recommend 'Cape Ann' vrbo #12986, we stayed there before buying our own. It is a very nice home with friendly, helpful owners.

Cape Refreshment is open to NON-SHEDDING pet breeds, that are permitted on the tiled main floor. We have pet allergies, so pets are not permitted in the carpeted top-floor guest rooms, no exceptions. Our home is NON SMOKING. No reservations accepted for vacationing students or singles under age 25 unless accompanied by adult legal guardian or parent during entire stay. Chaperoned groups not accepted. Restrictions apply regarding number of people that may accompany parent or legal guardian. 7 person maximum occupancy. Persons found in violation of house rules will be excused from the property immediately without refund.

About the owner: Landlocked in the frozen northlands of Ohio, but beach bums at heart, we had been visiting east coast beaches for years. Thankfully, a friend convinced us to try the Gulf coast. Our second year on the Cape, we started looking for a place we could call home. As a construction contractor, we found it hard to find a home that suited our tastes in the high on flash - low on substance McMansion mecca that Florida has become. Our first time in this house, with it's huge screened and open decks, understated construction quality, and bay side boat dock just a couple hundred yards away, we knew we had finally found what we were looking for.

Why the Owner Chose Port Saint Joe, FL, USA:
Cape San Blas is simply a water sports paradise. The fishing in the bay, off the beach or on many of the freshwater bodies in the area is as fine as anywhere. Scalloping, snorkeling and shelling in the calm crystal clear waters of the St. Joseph bay is something we never tire of. A year after our first visit to Cape San Blas we began our search for our perfect vacation home. It only took 4 years to find what we believe is the perfect place. We hope you will love it as much as we do, and we look forward to the new friends that Cape Refreshment may bring to our lives.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The location of our home is virtually ideal. The south end of the cape often has dirtier water and beach erosion has created numerous difficulties along the south end. Yet the fishing, scalloping and water sports in the bay are better in the south. Centrally located, in one of the narrowest sections of the cape, our beach is quiet, yet we are close to the sports that most Cape vacationers enjoy the most. The bay is so close that a person of average health can easily carry a kayak from our house to the bay-side dock. For our needs and desires, Cape Refreshment offers the total package.
