Hele Mai! Come and get away to our cozy country home with an amazing 180 degree coastline sunset view. Nestled in the mountains this home has unobstructed coastline views from the City of Refuge to Kealakekua Bay. The lanai with awesome views is a great place to sip your morning coffee and watch the sunset with its array of colors.
Our 3-bedroom home sleeps 5-6, and is furnished with touches of the tropics. It is very private and located on a 5-acre lot with a large yard in Honaunau, South Kona. The landscaping is very tropical with many varieties of native Hawaiian and other plants including Palms, Hibiscus, Orchids, Mangoes, Oranges, Avocados, Papaya and much more (you are welcome to pick the fruit in season when it ripens). Coffee and macadamia nut trees abound. Wild turkeys roam the property. The house is situated on a hill to offer you a spectacular views with cool breezes throughout the day and night (it is especially cool at night). Get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and come to experience country living in a peaceful setting that is a great place to relax.
The City of Refuge (in the top 20 of places to visit on the Big Island) and Honaunau Beach (GREAT for swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding and diving and, if you are lucky, swimming with dolphins and turtles) are located approximately 4 miles away. Local stores, restaurants and shops are nearby. There are a variety of eateries if you want to experience local cuisine: Da Poke Shack (rated #1 by Yelp) recently opened a 2nd location a stone's throw from our home, and a slew of other eateries are nearby. Outdoor pursuits are close by or simply relax and meditate in this serene area.
Honaunau is part of the Kona Coffee belt where lots of farmers cultivate the world renown coffee that is largely sought after. Coffee Mills, Bee Farms, Botanical Gardens, Black and Green sand beaches, Historical Monuments and more are located within a few hour's drive from our home. Experience and see the 10 out of 14 climate zones that Hawaii Island has to offer. E komo kai! You are welcome to make our vacation rental part of your home away from home!!

About Diane Cho

Why Diane Cho chose Honaunau-Napoopoo
This is a historic family property. In addition to the scenic beauty and tranquility of South Kona, visitors will get a chance to experience Kona from a 'local' point of view.
What makes this House unique
It is like heaven on earth. Very peaceful and serene with a spectacular view of Kealakekua Bay. It is on 5 acres of agricultural land and is lush with fruit trees (oranges, mango, papaya, avocado) and lush tropical foliage. I love watching the wild turkeys strutting through the yard followed by the chickens. We get away to recharge our batteries after the hubbub of the city. I also love to take the scenic drive to Volcano through the southern most part of the island (which begins when you take a left turn out of the driveway and drive around the island). It has some of the most breathtaking views of the Big Island I have ever experienced. Side trips to Milolii, Hookena, South Point and Naalehu are must do's.

Cozy home with an amazing view!
We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy home. The home provided everything we needed. Everything was neat and clean when we arrived. We had plenty of room for our family and the children enjoyed exploring the yard. We will definitely look you up again if we are so blessed to return to Kona area and need lodging. :) Sincerely, Jennifer S.
Thank you so much Jennifer! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Don't hesitate to contact us if you are ever back in Kona. Aloha!
Great place to relax
Only negative is the driveway up to the house. Great place to get away and re-energize. Beautiful views and wildlife around with privacy. Close to everything. Loved it!
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at Hale o Mokuohai! The driveway can be a bit adventurous and I am glad you were able to navigate it successfully. Thank you for selecting us for your vacation rental needs and come back again! Aloha!
One of the coziest places to rest and relax the mind and soul. We love it here.
House is very welcoming, clean and yet simple. We loved having most of our meals on the deck every single day. Lots of birds to listen/watch & photograph. And the lemon tree in the yard is a plus for iced teas and whatever else you can think of.
A heavenly place that stays with you long after you've left.
Great location, relaxing, beautiful views!
Close to town, great restaurants nearby, some of the best snorkeling close by, very relaxing.
Beautiful Rural Setting
Diane was very helpful and responded to any questions quickly prior to our arrival. Although she was not on the island at the time of our stay, she made sure someone in her family was available to us if needed. The house is situated at a higher elevation (1,000+ ft) on property in a rural area of farms - many coffee farms. Although the house does not have air conditioning, because being situated at a higher elevation, it is much cooler during the day and evening and we never felt we needed it. The rooms had plenty of fans as well. The area is very lush, and the property has many different fruit, nut, and avocado trees. It was wonderful to have fresh huge avocados for our salads. The house was clean, but I did feel more comfortable washing the dishes or pots/pans we used prior to use. Guests are asked to clean the dishes, pots/pans, so probably the guests before us did not do a very good job. The beds were comfortable and Diane had just purchased a very nice set of leather reclining couches. There were 3 boogey boards available. The lanai is large, although trees seems to have grown since some of the pictures were taken, blocking a portion of the view, but still beautiful. It was in a reasonably quiet area - occasionally dogs barking. In the evening, there are coqui frogs, which we do not mind listening too. Ear plugs would do the trick if you need more quiet. In September, we had some rain each afternoon, and one down pour. You must be aware that the long driveway is for one car at a time, and other family/neighbors live along it, but you rarely meet up with them. There is a section of the driveway that has a switchback "S" turn and slightly steep, so when it was wet, our rental van might lose one-wheel traction, but we just had to keep a steady slow speed. The road is paved and we did not feel 4-wheel drive was necessary, but as mentioned a tire would slip once in awhile on the "S" turn, probably because of wet leaves. There are a few good restaurants nearby, many coffee farms, and a small town with a grocery store and fun shops to visit, including a pretty large thrift store. We loved going down almost each day to snorkel, about 10 min. away. We enjoyed our stay here.
Thank you so much for your extensive review! I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come back again. Mahalo nui!
Well cared for home with a great view
