About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Hele Mai! Come and get away to our cozy country home with an amazing 180 degree coastline sunset view. Nestled in the mountains this home has unobstructed coastline views from the City of Refuge to Kealakekua Bay. The lanai with awesome views is a great place to sip your morning coffee and watch the sunset with its array of colors.

Our 3-bedroom home sleeps 5-6, and is furnished with touches of the tropics. It is very private and located on a 5-acre lot with a large yard in Honaunau, South Kona. The landscaping is very tropical with many varieties of native Hawaiian and other plants including Palms, Hibiscus, Orchids, Mangoes, Oranges, Avocados, Papaya and much more (you are welcome to pick the fruit in season when it ripens). Coffee and macadamia nut trees abound. Wild turkeys roam the property. The house is situated on a hill to offer you a spectacular views with cool breezes throughout the day and night (it is especially cool at night). Get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and come to experience country living in a peaceful setting that is a great place to relax.

The City of Refuge (in the top 20 of places to visit on the Big Island) and Honaunau Beach (GREAT for swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding and diving and, if you are lucky, swimming with dolphins and turtles) are located approximately 4 miles away. Local stores, restaurants and shops are nearby. There are a variety of eateries if you want to experience local cuisine: Da Poke Shack (rated #1 by Yelp) recently opened a 2nd location a stone's throw from our home, and a slew of other eateries are nearby. Outdoor pursuits are close by or simply relax and meditate in this serene area.

Honaunau is part of the Kona Coffee belt where lots of farmers cultivate the world renown coffee that is largely sought after. Coffee Mills, Bee Farms, Botanical Gardens, Black and Green sand beaches, Historical Monuments and more are located within a few hour's drive from our home. Experience and see the 10 out of 14 climate zones that Hawaii Island has to offer. E komo kai! You are welcome to make our vacation rental part of your home away from home!!

About Diane Cho

Honaunau is one of our favorite places on earth. Experiencing the hidden beauty of Kona is something we wanted to share with others.

Why Diane Cho chose Kona Coast

This is a historic family property. In addition to the scenic beauty and tranquility of South Kona, visitors will get a chance to experience Kona from a 'local' point of view.

What makes this house unique

It is like heaven on earth. Very peaceful and serene with a spectacular view of Kealakekua Bay. It is on 5 acres of agricultural land and is lush with fruit trees (oranges, mango, papaya, avocado) and lush tropical foliage. I love watching the wild turkeys strutting through the yard followed by the chickens. We get away to recharge our batteries after the hubbub of the city.

I also love to take the scenic drive to Volcano through the southern most part of the island (which begins when you take a left turn out of the driveway and drive around the island). It has some of the most breathtaking views of the Big Island I have ever experienced. Side trips to Milolii, Hookena, South Point and Naalehu are must do's.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the use of your home. Our family enjoyed our stay here. The sunsets are beautiful from your veranda, and the nightly serenades took getting used to, but eventually grows on one's senses. Our family enjoyed Honaunau Beach; swimming with the green sea turtles was awesome. We look forward to future visits to Kona and having the opportunity to stay in your home again would truly be a blessing for it is a "home away from home."

A great location and great supplies for taking kids to the beach

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. the place is indeed great for families. The beds are very comfortable and there is ample space both inside, on the lanai and on the lawn for kids to play. They have a great collection of boogie boards and sand toys which our kids really enjoyed taking to the beaches. And the view of the coast and sunsets were excellent. I would definitely stay there again on a return trip.

Pleasant house near Hookena beach

  • 5 of 5

The house is at about 1200 feet elevation, so even when it's hot at the beach, there is a pleasant breeze at the house. Large, shaded lanai, 3 bedrooms and plenty of space for 6 people. The house was very clean. The beach is about 10 minutes away by car, a mix of rocks and sand. There is a great poke place within walking distance from the house. The owners are very nice and helpful, answer emails within hours.

Coffee country house with nice views

  • 5 of 5

We visit the Big Island once a year and this was our fourth stay at this house. Great location to get away. Our favorite activities are snorkeling/diving at 2 steps and a BBQ in the evening at Place of Refuge.

Specatular views await you from this perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This house was the ideal place for our families vacation. Away from the big city and perched above the main road on a nice tree filled property this home provided everything we needed. There was a nice BBQ, a few boogie boards, beach chairs and coolers. The lanai was out favorite place to be after a nice day out of sightseeing or beach time. You have wide open views of the ocean and bays below. It looks west and is perfect for sunset. We fell In love with the snorkeling at two step. It was a 15 minute drive away. Everyday we head down early for our morning swim. The area has a lot to offer with nice local restaurants close by. If you love coffee and Mac nuts there are nice little farms to tour and shop at. The choise mart grocery store had lots of good food available if you like to cook just 10 minutes north. The home worked very well for our little nephew who was 20 months. There were kids books, a nice high chair, crib and even a few soft toys for him to play with. We are not a big media family but we did watch one movie on the nice new television. Internet was a strong connection. Most of all I would like to thank the family who runs the house. Diane was prompt with excellent communication via email and phone. We had one minor hot water issue and it was resolved in under 1 hour on a Sunday. So impressive. If we return to The Big Island we will be sure to think of this property first. Thanks!!
