Home, 5 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
This home is in the center of a 200 acre mountainside estate property. It has been renovated to maximize the views from each room. Most rooms face southeast and look upon the back side of Overlook Mountain. You can also see to the south as far as New Paltz and beyond on a clear day. Every season and weather condition is spectacular to see from the house. Below the front lawn is a fenced in 20x40 foot heated swimming pool with it's own cabana (open seasonally). Below that is a park-like area with a screened in gazebo. The pool is for your private use. The owner/caretaker lives in a house located behind the main house. Your privacy will be respected. It is assumed that you are here to get away from it all, but someone is here if you need assistance.
The central part of the house was built in the late 1800's and comprises the living room and sun porch downstairs, with two small bedrooms, a large bedroom with non-working stone fireplace and double bed, and a full bath upstairs. At one end of this central area is the dining room, the huge eat-in kitchen, and another glassed in porch with an additional dining/sitting area and a Steinway grand piano. There is an outside dining terrace off the kitchen with the best view on the property. At the other end of the house, the entrance way hall leads to the living room. Off this hallway is another guest room with a queen bed, full bathroom, and efficiency kitchenette area. Above this is the master bedroom suite, which includes a queen bed, a private bathroom with jetted tub and separate tiled shower, a large walk in closet, elevator access, a separate outside entrance, and a small library. The house can accommodate a total of eight people.

About Diane Legier
Hi. I have lived in paradise on this Catskill mountain for 30+ years. It is time to downsize my personal living space and share the incredible beauty of this property with others. Every time I travel, I am struck anew by how much of our country is covered with developments and commercialization. Coming home to Woodstock and to this peaceful retreat is so soothing to the soul. Come and see for yourself...
Diane Legier purchased this House in 1978
Why Diane Legier chose Woodstock
Woodstock and the surrounding area is blessed with beauty, art, exciting positive energy, interesting people, and lots of great restaurants and nearby adventures. It is such a sanctuary for the soul. I relocated to this area from NYC in 1969 (Could it be that I was a hippy?) There has always been an influx of interesting refugees from the city. I think this is because nature is so lush and untainted here and yet cultural stimulation is within easy reach.
What makes this House unique
The most striking thing about this property (I call it Bristol Hill), is the scenery. Photos do not do it justice. Sit on the terrace and watch the reflection of the setting sun on the back of Overlook Mountain. It is as healing as a meditation retreat. The stillness is only broken by the chirping birds that abound here. You may see wild turkeys, deer with their fawns, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, incredible cloud formations...What you mostly will not see is other people. There are trails to hike, a pool to relax in, a ramshackle tennis court with lots of excuses for missed shots, a pool table for rainy days and outside dining for sunny afternoons. If you are a pianist or a student of the piano, please come and play the Steinway O in the breakfast room. You really don't have to go anywhere, but if you do, Woodstock Center is just 10 minutes away.

It's like coming home
There are few rentals that evoke the feeling of coming home into the welcoming arms of family. Such is the experience at Bristol Hill. We have stayed here on several occasions and I have yet to be disappointed. I have never encountered owners as vested in your happiness as Diane and Barb. Their warmth, kindness, attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond - without being asked - is unsurpassed. I considered it a true privilege to be able to stay in their home.
This house was perfect for our multigenerational needs. Options for those who needed one level, great quiet areas for the little ones needing naps, and plenty of space for the rest of us to do whatever without bothering the others. As other mentioned, the kitchen was fantastic - we had everything we needed, from a crock pot to a full spice cabinet to every random serving dish you could possibly need. Would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a getaway from it all.
five stars all the way!
Yes, It's Paradise!
My wife and I (along with some very thankful groups of family and friends), have stayed here for four of the five last summers. My first review (September 2013) is titled "Paradise!," the second (September 2015) is titled "Still Paradise," and the third (September 2016) is titled "Absolutely Paradise." Need I say more? The first time we rented this house was the summer of 2013 because we were looking for a beautiful property in the Woodstock area to host a reunion and needed a house that could comfortably accommodate eight persons. Bristol Hill fit the bill perfectly. We instantly fell in love with the house and property and haven't been able to bring ourselves to stay anywhere else since. Frankly, I've run out of superlatives and suggest that you read my earlier reviews. I guess that, at this point, it behooves me make at least one negative comment, though: the worst thing about staying at Bristol Hill is that you will not want to leave!
I hesitate to say this...
... because then the owners will probably raise the prices, or it will get even harder to book, but this place is spectacular. Without getting into archaic details of how the Catskill Forest Preserve was created, locations like this in the Catskills are extraordinarily rare, and - to belabor the point made by most other reviewers - the pictures don't do it justice. There really isn't much else I can add than yet another 5-star review. The host was perfect - there in an instant when needed, and otherwise totally invisible. Thank you for a wonderful week!
Beautiful property and home
The house and the grounds are so charming and well kept. Everything was extremely clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time on the terrace having meals, star gazing, and taking in the views. The kitchen is very large and well stocked with pots, spices, etc. There was plenty of room to spread out and cook a big meal. The pool was great for the kids. The pool has a little covered pool house if you need to get out of the sun. There were plenty of floats as well. We took walks around the property and got some great wildlife pictures. There are some trails in the woods but we didn't get a chance to really explore them. I wish we had more time to do so. One of our favorite features was the screen-in porch where we would have coffee in the morning and take pictures of all the lovely plantings and hummingbirds right outside the door. There are many more wonderful features to the house but it's too much to write! I would love to come back again.
