About Michelle Mancuso
My home is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but quickly fell in love with the Mentone/Lookout Mountain region. I never tire of the beauty or the people and I hope you fall in love too.
Michelle Mancuso purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Michelle Mancuso chose Mentone
We have traveled to Lookout Mountain for many years and decided we wanted a vacation home in this unspoiled area. It is so convenient to many other destinations and we often have intentions of using Hawk's Nest Hideaway as the headquarter for further adventures, but we end up falling in love with what the area has to offer in views and outings so we stay and never venture any further than a days drive away. Any time of year, any season we have never been disappointed.
What makes this Cabin unique
This area is unique in that there is a little known fact that Little River Canyon is the deepest river canyon besides the Grand Canyon the USA and the river flows entirely on the top of the mountain. This area is so pristine, clean, uncluttered and unique. You will truly fall in love and want to return many many times. I welcome you and your family to my home.

Our 3-night stay was an enjoyable get-away. We were joining family at nearby rural property. It was such a joy to come home at night and enjoy the quiet, clean, well-appointed cabin. It was welcoming the minute we walked in the door. We found everything we needed. The property manager always responded promptly to any questions I had before the stay as well as when we arrived. Great experience and would certainly recommend to anyone traveling in the Mentone area.
Beautiful Weekend Getaway
Staying at the Hawk's Nest Hideaway was one of the best weekends my boyfriend and I have had in a long time. A perfect secluded house in the mountains complete with a pond for fishing, a relaxing hottub, a beautiful yard, and just minutes from the adorable town of Mentone. Great hikes in the area, and we were even able to catch quite a few fish in the pond.
I would highly recommend staying here - this is an incredible place and we're looking forward to coming back!
Everything was as promised. The cabin was very pretty and had everything we needed. Michelle was great at taking care of us. We would travel during the day visiting all the sights and come back and relax in the swing down by the stream. Since she has upgraded the wi-fi it works fine too. Couldn’t ask for more.
Beautiful "Hideaway" cabin!
Beautiful clean property! Very relaxing, a wonderful getaway. Only problem was wifi wasn't working, so no outside connection unless I walked to the pond. But that was a minor problem. Would definitely stay again!
Quiet, relaxing. Close to waterfalls at Desoto and Little River Canyon. Hot tub amazing at night. Swing by stream so peaceful. Clean and quaint:)
Nice Place to Stay...Many Pluses and only Minor Drawbacks
We enjoyed our 4-night stay at the cottage with nice backyard creek. Cottage was at a fairly convenient location that didn't require driving too far away from town; it was clean and well-stocked; and although only a eat-in kitchen bar for indoor dining, there was plenty of outdoor tables/seating and nice fire pit area. Hot tub didn't get as hot as we'd like (set around 104 degrees), but was clean. Everything was as stated in listing and host always responded timely after booking and when contacted. The biggest drawback is if you're wanting to use the pond that's listed and is across the street. It's a nice little pond BUT has numerous (at least 5) dogs that bark non-stop when anyone visits the pond or even comes down the street. Our boys love to fish and we had looked forward to periods of peace and quiet, and enjoyable fishing, but there is nothing peaceful with constant and loud barking dogs. We happened to meet the owner of those dogs as he came walking down the road one day. He bragged about how no one came on the road without them knowing it and that they were great for security. So, I don't see that issue changing anytime soon. Overall, we REALLY enjoyed our stay but didn't fish or stay around pond much at all only because of the dogs. Other than that, just don't depend on the Wi-Fi even though it's "available." Connection was never very good our entire stay, but occasionally we were able to connect. I mainly wanted to "unplug" while away anyway, but it was frustrating at times we wanted to research something in the area; park details, restaurant times, etc.. The service isn't really that consistent anywhere around mountains anyway, so just find a good spot and use it when you 'need' to access something.
We took advantage of the creek outback with nice swing; the fire pit and of course getting away and exploring Mentone, Desoto State Park, Little River Canyon, Etc.. Owner offers very reasonable cleaning fee (currently $50) and that is a HUGE plus and very kind thing to do. I ALWAYS leave a place about as clean as we find it and take care of others' property as we have rented out our own property to others and expect the same. So, I really appreciate someone who works with guests to offer an affordable, nice accommodations at fair rental prices and fees and I avoid those who overprice in any area. Go ahead and stay at Hawk's Nest Hideaway, you won't regret it. Great overall experience and value.
Thank you so much for 1st; choosing Hawk's Nest HIdeaway and 2nd for such a thorough honest review.
I would like to respond to each of your drawbacks for future guest:of
We did have a table for inside dining but seems everyone ends up at bar and the table took a bit of room so we removed it. The bar seats 4.
Hot tub will only heat to 104. That is the law and the highest degree allowed on a thermostat. I apologize for the neighbor that has gone dog crazy. When we purchased property in 2008 that was not an issue. Over the years it has grown louder and yes if the dogs hear you they will start barking. We fish but don't talk. The neighbors are on 22 acres and are at least 10 from us but the dogs do get loud with talking. I'm hoping in time as this neighbor is growing older and so are the dogs it will take care of itself. There is no security issue where we are located so need for dogs is just his preference. WI-FI is an issue as is cell phone on this mountain. I have the best and the highest speed available. When it works it works but for what ever reason unknown Centurylink has issues. I believe they have been erecting new towers and running new lines so this causes interuption. In time it should be a non-issue. I have 2 wi-fi routes to help and I connect lap tops and tv on 1 and phones on other to spread the load and this seems to help. I do try to keep our prices and cleaning fees to a minimum. Have not raised rates in many years. I appreciate your taking care of our place to the extent that you did. As a property owner yourself you can appreciate a good value for the money. You can also appreciate circumstances out of my control so I try to make up for the little negatives with big positives, like the wonderful sitting area with a creek in the yard. Please come again.
