About Pauline

I'm Pauline, the owner of this vacation rental property. Born and raised in Winnipeg, although I did live in Toronto, Calgary, and Edmonton before settling here in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in 1988. For over 20 years this vacation rental home was enjoyed as my family home. Most of my neighbors have been around for a long time, some since before the original bridge was built. It's a great neighborhood to raise children in, which is why I originally bought the house. Now that the kids are grown, the house seemed big and empty...Perfect for a vacation rental home away from home.

Pauline purchased this house in 1991

Why Pauline chose Casa Loma

The Okanagan is a great vacation destination. There are numerous golf courses, wineries, ski hills, walking and biking trails, restaurants, and beaches to enjoy. I fell in love with the Okanagan while vacationing here. After three years of enjoying the area, I decided to purchase a home of my own here.

What makes this house unique

Enjoy private access to the salt water swimming pool located in a very private, secure, sunny, large back yard. Be comfortable dining on a huge deck while enjoying the view of the lake, bridge and city lights at night. The kitchen is newly renovated with granite countertop and glass tile, it is perfect for entertaining while sitting around the eating bar and preparing meals. Relax watching movies on the 46' LCD flat screen with surround sound while lounging on confortably cool leather furniture. Enjoy separate time from others as they lounge in the lower level family room with a 40' flat screen TV. A short drive (or 20 minute walk) down the road will take you to Kalamoir Park and a rather isolated, private beach with scenic walking trails. Golf and wineries are all around you. Downtown Kelowna is a five minute drive over the scenic bridge. Lots of nightlife, lots of fun!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Truly enjoyed your beautiful property! We all enjoyed the yard and pool and slept very well. The hills in the neighborhood made for a good work.

Barbarian Gardens Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at this home. We were a party of 8, and had plenty of living space. We never felt crowded, and felt very comfortable. We used the outdoor living space as much as we could. The pool(where our children practically lived) was fantastic, and the huge deck space was great. The kitchen is fully stocked making it easy to make meals. The living room is very large and was comfortable for all of us. Bedrooms were all a good size, and beds were very cozy. The location of this property is one of the best we have stayed in while visiting Kelowna. It is very convenient, central, very close to wineries! We all enjoyed our stay here, and would not hesitate to book again.

Be careful staying here

  • 1 of 5

Stayed here 5 months. House is misrepresented as having only one 'caretaker' flat - there are 2 self-contained apartments downstairs (landlord resided in one of them, the other is also tenanted). One of the flats is connected to the unit via an internal door (not lockable from our side).

Outside area is nice but inside is old, cluttered and tacky (e.g., there are gargoyles in every room). Electrics are shoddy (don't plug the kettle in with the toaster, or else hope someone is home downstairs to fix the breaker). This happened at least 5 times with different kitchen appliance combinations - we were told 'don't use the microwave so much'. Leather couches and ottomans are peeling and leave a mess. Central vacuum doesn't work (we were charged for dumping fees for a vacuum we had to buy and leave behind). We were not given lock access to the front door, and told to use patio door, which is a real pain for hauling suitcases and things through the back gate, around through the backyard, up onto the deck.

Make sure you conduct your own pre-inspection with pictures; landlord blames us for all pre-existing faults and is keeping our damage deposit. Did not want to meet with us for post inspection despite her being at the unit on checkout day, and knowing we are from overseas and with little recourse to counter fraudulent claims. We have lodged for Dispute Resolution through Residential Tenancies.

The place is probably fine to rent for a weekend but watch out for yourselves. The datedness of the house along with its deteriorating furnishings are a risk to potential tenants.

Owner's Response: I have been a vacation rental owner for over 10 years and never had to deal with someone who did not come to me privately with their concerns. Any issues that were brought to my attention were dealt with in a timely fashion. I am really sorry that you feel you need to try to publicly insult me, slander me with half-truths and complete lies, and hurt my otherwise high rating. This is one of those Vacation Rental Nightmares property owners all dread. Almost 100 photos, 18 hours of cleaning, and 19 loads of laundry speaks volumes as to your character. The saying For Every Finger You Point, There Are Three Fingers Pointing Right Back At You is appropriate here.
