A good and pleasant mixed bag...

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was nice, cozy, beds were comfortable and it was in a good location close to town but, not too close. Very private location. The driveway leading up to the cabin was very steep and only partially paved.

The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. Tvs, satellite was in good working order and there was plenty of fire wood available.

A couple of negatives: while the cabin was clean, there were some areas that could use a little more cleaning. For example, there was dust on almost every piece of decor in the bathrooms, spider webs around the light fixtures in both bathrooms and the door frame in the bathroom downstairs. The hot pool does not get very hot. It was also not filled when we arrived and it takes about 4 hours to fill and heat up. Who has time to wait that long when you are only there for two nights?! The hottest we could get it was about 87 degrees. The water pressure is also lame. You can't fill the hot tub and run water in the house at the same time. Even when you are not filling the hot tub, the water pressure in the shower/sinks is still very low.

There was also some kind of alarm, as best as we could tell-in the kitchen cupboard, above the fridge, which was locked, that went off every morning around 6am. This is pretty annoying when you have little kids and specially when you are on vacation, trying to catch up on sleep.

My biggest pet peeve with the cabin was the fact that we had to take our own trash with us! That's right, the GUEST is required to take all trash with them and dump it in some dumpsters down the road. Keep in mind we did pay a cleaning fee, so I'm not sure what that was for because we were also limited to the use of one towel each. If we had used more than one towel, the GUEST, has to launder them before leaving.

Check out is also too early-10am. Most places it's 11am.

Cabin owner was nice and quick to respond.

Owner's Response: The recent devastating regional forest fires did not affect our property or the majestic views. The guest found the property complete with amenities in working order, clean and comfortable, the property owner was nice and quick to respond. Each guest is asked to sign and return an occupancy agreement. All of the significant items mentioned by the guest were covered in the occupancy agreement: check in / check out, bed linens and towels, hot tub, trash removal, and a lot of other useful information about the property and its amenities. We also have a 2 inch thick guest welcome binder on the kitchen counter. The guest and I had a very positive / constructive email exchange, regarding the occupancy agreement, before they finalized their travel plan decision, then signed and mailed the agreement back a month before their arrival. The hot tub has a highly visible rotary temperature control and heats to a max of 102. The hot tub is a DIY amenity: fill, heat, drain. Guests may request early check-in or late check-out but the guest did not request it. The region suffered from national newsworthy historically acute and extreme drought conditions this year and water tables and water pressure have been down. Notwithstanding these conditions, adequate water pressure was consistently available for interior use by guests. The hot tub was slow to fill. We installed, December 2016, a 1000 gallon underground water storage tank that should resolve drought condition water pressure issues so the hot tub will fill in 45 minutes and also reduces the strain on our well pump. Unfortunately, we believe there was a disconnect between the guest travel planner and other guests in his group regarding our very, very reasonable house rules and property amenities. However, we appreciate the feedback from guests and this helps us to adjust our property offering, protocols and most importantly improve communication with guests.

Well furnished cabin.

  • 3 of 5

Well furnished and very comfortable cabin on a quite mountain if you want to get away from it all! My son and I had a great two night visit. No cellular service but access to internet and text messages through Wi-Fi. The only down side is that you have to fill the hot tub with water and heat before using, which took several hours so it was not ready for use until next morning after arrival. There was little to no water pressure to the rest of the house while filling the hot tub.

Owner's Response: The property is as described by the guest: 'well furnished, comfortable, complete, quiet." And sited on a high remote 2 acre ridgeline lot. The hot tub has been a very popular amenity and we have had many, many positive comments about it. "Very novel and really adds charm and character to this property." To make absolutely sure that there are no questions about the quality of the water, we ask guests to fill and heat the hot tub upon arrival. As the property owner, the assurance that the water quality in the hot tub is beyond question far exceeds the inconvenience of filling and heating it. The fill hose is conveniently located and it takes 45 minutes to fill. The circulation pump / heater is a one-step operation from a convenient wall mounted switch. We will be glad to send information about the hot tub operation, restaurants, area activities and attractions, grocery store locations, and other useful information in advance of your arrival. This information is also included in the 2 inch welcome book on the kitchen counter.

Awesome little secuded in the hills!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this cabin this week. When we arrived, the cabin was clean. They provide everything you could possible need, fresh linens, fully stocked kitchen with newer appliances (including a dishwasher), and a mini fridge sink, microwave, and toaster in the downstairs master suite! The beds were VERY COMFORTABLE! They might have been the best beds we have ever slept in away from home! They provide bird food and corn for feeders located around the decks, and it was interesting watching the birds and squirrels in the morning! The cabin is high enough up the hill to feel very private, even though there are other cabins nearby. We could only see one, through the trees below us, and we couldn't see much, just a little light and the color of a car parked there.

We brought our motorcycle to take a few rides while we were here. There is enough room to trailer in, as long as your trailer is small, and you can unhook and walk it around to turn around (there isn't quite enough room to turn it around at the cabin). Yes, the road up is steep, and perhaps a little scary the first time, but it's not horrible. I was a little worried about riding the bike down and up the road to the cabin, but my worries were unfounded. I think it was easier than driving the truck up. We only rode a few hundred miles through the mountains (our teenage kids were with us, so we didn't think it fair to leave them for long), but this is some beautiful riding! I can't imagine much prettier except for some of those bucket list place like the Pacific Coast Highway.

We were looking for a place, away from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but close enough to the Smoky Mountains National Park to make day trips. This location perfectly fit the bill. We took day trips into the park to Cades Cove, Clingmans Dome, and many other parts of the park. We grabbed meals in Townsend, Bryson City, and Cherokee, and was happy with each meal (check tripadvisor for the highest ranked places). We also prepared several meals in the cabin, especially breakfasts, but also used the provided grill to prepare steaks and burgers!

If were return to the Smokies, we would definitely book this place again.

Relaxation at it's best!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, a couple friends, our son and daughter-in-law all really enjoyed our short weekend in the mountains. This cabin was so comfortable with three good sized bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, two large decks and hot tub! The master suite on the lower level was awesome and had it's own bath and mini kitchen for morning coffee. Beds were very comfortable. We loved that they even supplied bird food and corn cobs so that we could fill the feeders and watch all the wildlife. We got a real chuckle out of the squirrels. There was not much of a view during the summer and road was a little steep but well worth the privacy. During our stay we took the Smoky Mountain "Carolina Shine" train and had a blast! Definitely would recommend that. We did some stream fishing and then just hung out at the house and relaxed! The hot tub was wonderful. No cell service (but did not care). Really loved this cabin and would stay there again. Very easy to book and owner was quick to respond. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Owner's Response: We appreciate comments from guests that found the property comfortable, fully equipped, meeting or exceeding their expectations. Most cell phone services have APPS on their cell phones that links into the on site Wi-Fi. The same APPS also allow linkage for Kindles and similar electronic devices.
