From the front door, you cross a dirt road and are only steps from sandy beaches...and out the back door is a lake/creek, which is a kayaker's delight (kayak access from Bay). Sporting a modern white beach decor, the cottage is an open plan and bigger than it may appear. This secluded Chesapeake Bay beach community is an 'away' destination that offers swimming, crabbing, kayaking, fishing and walking along miles of undeveloped shoreline - or it's equally great for just relaxing on the beach with a good book. Charming beach cottages are equipped with the latest amenities - safe and kid-friendly yet isolated enough to be a perfect couple's get away or a friends' weekend at the beach. Perfect for a party of 2 or 8. Master bedroom has a queen bed for parents and two twin beds for the kids. Two additional bedrooms are at the other end of the house: one with queen bed, one with two twin beds. And, a sofa large enough for sleeping or lounging in front of the tv is in the living room. A well-outfitted large porch fronts the house for dining and relaxing.

Ten miles from historic St. Mary's City, Maryland's original capital, and 5 miles from beautiful Pt. Lookout Park, biking, boating and fishing abound. Or, charter a boat and fish/enjoy the Bay while someone else does the work. Herons, egrets, osprey, bald eagles, diamond-back turtles and occasional pelicans share this special spot with other wildlife - and a few people, too.

Park your car and stay home or enjoy day trips to Solomon's Island, Smith Island (via boat from Pt. Lookout Park), St. George's Island or to historic Leonardtown for good food and browsing the quaint shops. It's hard to believe you are only 1.5 hours from Washington's Reagan Airport. Take a day off from the sunshine and visit Washington's Smithsonian Museums, the Capitol and scores of other attractions. Then, come home to the soothing waves lapping up to shore. Fall asleep and awake to the spectacular site of the sun rising over the Bay. Truly a little bit of heaven at Hays Beach.

Gorgeous House Along the Chesapeake

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful stay over Thanksgiving. The cabin is immaculately decorated, clean and equipped with most everything you'll need for meals at home. The beach easily accessible, just across the street (through a neighbor's yard). It's a gorgeous expanse of sand and water. We walked up and down it every night, then detoured through the woods for a walk through the forest. The leaves were still in full fall foliage mode, so the walks were breathtaking. We'd definitely recommend the house to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway, far from the hustle bustle. So far, in fact, that it takes about 35-45 minutes to get to a reasonable grocery store, so be sure to stock up either before you go or on a special shopping day during your stay. Thanks, Peggy!

We enjoyed our stay. The house was well layed out and provisioned. I wish there was better internet but I understand the dificulties that far out.

Relaxing family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a first time visiting Scotland, MD and staying at one of Peggy's properties and we were not disappointed. The Hideaway was nice and cozy but big enough to accommodate all of us. The house was right across from the beach and we had access to bikes, kayaks, and beach chairs. Unfortunately, it rained for most of our stay but we enjoyed going to nearby Solomon's Island. Rob and Bob the property managers were great. Very friendly and attentive.

Wonderful Location

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay very much. As a family of 6 we had plenty of room. I especially loved the washer and dryer as beach clothing could be washed immediately. Our boys loved the big bedroom and we called it their man-cave. Plenty of towels! Very nice property managers. If we can, we will come again. If you want to get away from the crowds, enjoy the beach but still be in easy driving distance to all the stores, etc this is the place for you. Also, bring your crabbing nets and gear as there are plenty of crabs in the stream emptying into the Bay. Easy driving to D.C. to see the sights.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Spent 4 wonderful days in this well appointed house across from the bay. The weather was perfect, we basically had the beach to ourselves and loved our time spent there. Three college friends shared the house for our 40th reunion. We took bike rides each morning and then hung out on the quiet beach. The house had everything we could ask for, down to the crisp bed linens and thick bath towels. We all agreed we would come back.
