Good potential but in need of additional investment to justify price
We stayed at The Hideaway over Thanksgiving 2022 with 6 adults, 2 kids, and 1 infant as part of a larger family reunion in St. Augustine. Overall, we felt the property was lacking in quality and it did not meet our expectations for the amount of money we spent. I hope the hosts will consider investing a portion of what we paid during our 4-day stay to make future stays much more comfortable. The property could be great but isn't quite there yet!
Pros:
*The property management company was very responsive - helping us check-in early, and troubleshoot when we locked the wrong door upon leaving the house at one point. I would have brought some of these recommendations up with them directly during our stay but didn't have the time.
*The location is just blocks from the beach.
*The balcony porch is an awesome hangout spot and place to enjoy the sun and sound of surf.
*The upstairs renovation is clean and bright.
Recommendations:
*Invest in basic amenities for guests. We were surprised there wasn't a hairdryer, bathmats (?!), nightlights, or extra linens to be found.
*As mentioned in other reviews, the downstairs feels damp and musty. Not sure how to trouble shoot, but additional rugs might make it feel more cozy. A couch instead of a dinette would be a nice addition in the downstairs playroom.
*Redo the kitchen countertops - the counters are some kind of black painted surface. When they were wet, black paint would rub off on fruit and veggies and our arms.
*Check the plumping in the downstairs bathroom, attached to the queen room - the shower did not drain during our entire stay.
*Consider some investments in curb appeal. Paint is peeling and some landscaping outside would go along way!
