Guestbook comments from the owner

Greg, many thanks for the hospitality as Bruce and I really enjoyed ourselves fishing the lake on Saturday. The fish were incredible and your ranch/setup is very pretty and impressive, and the picture was awesome! You are doing a great job with the fishery and your efforts are admired. It was a most pleasant expreience, even the weather as I can't remember the last time I fished in hail and snow and had such a good time that I never noticed it. I'm not sure what I enjoyed most, your kind hospitality, the quality fish, the serene setting, the quaint cabin or those marvelous cookies! Again, many thanks, and we will see you on our next trip. Sincerely, Jerry

One of the best cabin stays we've ever done.

  • 5 of 5

We went for a 3 day weekend. Parked the car at the cabin and didn't leave the lake once.

We had 3 teenage girls, none of whom had ever fished. The lake is really well stocked and we caught a bunch mid size trout. We spent most of the days swimming and playing with the kayaks and boats, BBQ'ing and taking in the breathtaking mountain views and nature. In the evening the girls went frog and toad hunting. (and one turtle I think). We saw the resident Osprey catching fish after fish and then had s'mores on the fire in the evening.

It was a long trip from the Bay Area (6 hours), but we'll be back!

Idyllic!

  • 5 of 5

We came here for a summer vacation with the family (kids ages 6 and 2) and grandparents, and were immediately planning our return visit. The setting is idyllic , with a beautiful lake adjacent to the two cabins we rented. Our daily routine involved swimming, kayaking, walking around the property and painting the beautiful landscape. Brenda and Greg were gracious hosts, and the kids loved their lively dog Choco, too. The cabin was well equipped and had games for the kids. We look forward to returning.

Restores the Soul!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our little dog just spent 4 of the best days of our life up at the Cattail Cabin on SkyCrest Lake. Brenda and Greg (and Choco the lab) go out of their way to be such gracious and welcoming hosts. The cabin is clean and comfortable and stocked with all the kitchen supplies you need, including a gas grill, charcoal grill, and campfire (just make sure you bring enough food and drinks because it's a long drive back to Weaverville if you forget anything). We spent all day relaxing at the lake, taking out the paddleboard and kayak, and throwing the ball into the water for the dog. Then when the sun went down, we made cocktails and sat on the lawn chairs, watching the ospreys dive bomb for fish and the swallows eat up all the bugs. (Seriously, there are very few mosquitos there due to so many swallows and huge gorgeous dragonflies.) In addition to all the birds, we saw deer, rabbits, a raccoon, and listened to the bullfrogs croak back and forth. I'm sure there are great hiking trails nearby, we were just too content looking at the mountains and water to ever check them out! We loved the lake so much we have already booked for next year. Could not recommend enough!

Hidden Treasure

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting this wonderful place every year since our two boys were babies. So relaxing and a great chance to turn off the phones and other devices. Now the boys are 5 and 8 and can swim in the lake and use the kayaks available all day long. The lake is so serene. Brenda and Greg have provided all the comforts of home including BBQs and all the fixings for a great campfire. We really look forward to this trip each summer.
