About Judy Knutson

The North Shore of Oahu seemed the perfect choice after 22 years of living aboard, raising two children and sailing a sailboat throughout Mexico, the South Pacific and the Pacific Northwest. My husband and son both avid surfers had to live in the "7 Mile Miracle" and be within walking distance to the surf. I myself love to hike, kayak, paddle outrigger canoe, ride bikes, snorkel and swim. The North Shore is the perfect playground for us to enjoy the ocean that we love.

Judy Knutson purchased this house in 2002

Why Judy Knutson chose North Shore Oahu

We decided to buy and settle on the North Shore to be close to the ocean and the surf. California was just to busy and hectic so in 1985 we set sail for a more quiet lifestyle. After first arriving in Hawaii we lived for many years in Honolulu but the city life was just not for us we had to get away from all the high rise hotels so we moved to the 'country'. We love the simple, quiet country living that the North Shore provides with no high raise hotels and big box stores. Life is good on the North Shore.

What makes this house unique

What I love most about our location is waking up to the sound of the birds and the falling asleep at night to the gentle trade winds and the sound of 'quiet'. I love the fragrant tropical flowers that I have grown and that are now abundant since we first bought the property. The fragrances of the puakenikeni, plumeria, gardenia, white ginger and trumpet flower are so intoxicating especially after a light tropical rain shower. The mornings and evenings just before sunset are my favorite times to be outside whether working in the yard, riding my bike or going for a refreshing swim at Sunset Beach or Waimea Bay. During the warmer times of the day I find a cool place to sit back with a book. It is so pleasant while reading to be cooled by the gentle trades and serenaded by the birds. I love that our bungalow home is on a safe quiet street perched on the hillside overlooking the ocean and away from the two lane highway and foot traffic that living at or on the beach can have, but yet it is just a short walk down our driveway and street to the beach.

Simply delightful

  • 5 of 5

Our family visited Oahu for the beach wedding of our niece. We stayed at Judy and Mark's for a week and found it to be a fabulous home base for our adventures. Mark and Judy were warm, friendly, and accommodating hosts. We found the apartment to be clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. Especially appreciated the washer/dryer and the kitchenette. We borrowed the snorkeling equipment, cooler, beach towels, and chairs. Had a great time snorkeling at Shark's Cove, Aweoweo Beach and Research Pier. Walked along Velzyland Beach in the mornings. Visited the botanical garden and played in the waterfall and pool at Waimea Valley. Ate at several local places with great food. Explored the whole island and discovered distinctly different climates and landscapes. Learned to surf at White Plains Beach. Highlight was snorkeling with sea turtles and bright schools of fish over the reef. Truly a magical time. I would highly recommend Judy and Mark's bungalow to others who would like to make the North Shore their home base on Oahu.

There is no way to describe how perfect this place is!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I arrived to celebrate our anniversary expecting this to be a place to sleep and eat. We were very pleasantly surprised by the beautiful views right from the living room/kitchen and the front porch as well as the warm, comfortable and clean living area.

We spent 11 days exploring the North Shore area. We went on several hikes, swims and adventures that were suggested by Judy and Mark. It was like having a tour guide available for the whole vacation. Every amenity worked great. We rode the bikes, used the snorkel equipment, used the washer/dryer several times, used the beach chairs/umbrella several times and even asked if there was a guitar, which Mark loaned me his personal acoustic for the entire stay. Judy and Mark are wonderful. They are always available to chat but never intrude. We felt welcome and pampered. The kitchen was clean, well stocked and had everything we wanted. We ate at several local food trucks and restaurants suggested by Judy. They were great and we were able to find a variety of places without breaking the bank. We also bought groceries at Food Town just down the road and found their prices very fair. We found this area of Oahu very friendly and never experienced theft or felt threatened in any way. There are so many things to do within 20 minutes of this place that we only left the immediate area to visit Pearl Harbor and hike Diamondhead.

Overall, we can't say enough good about this place and Mark and Judy. We have already recommended it to co-workers who are trying to book it soon. We would not ever stay anywhere else on the North Shore/Oahu.

Awesome Hosts

  • 5 of 5

Judy and mark were so hospitable and easy going, made you feel really at home and comfortable.

They were very knowledgeable about the local seen and gave some really good recommendations for food and exploring, we have been to the North Shore several times and were able to try some new things, I really like that. The apartment was cozy with all you need for a beach vacation, you could cook many meals which I did, I appreciated the full size refrigerator. There is no air but plenty of fans and we slept well at night. Would stay again.

Home away from home...

  • 5 of 5

Whenever we will be going back to Oahu, I don't believe we are going to be stay anywhere else. Not only is the location perfect for being just a few minutes away from some of the world's most famous beaches, but having Judy and her husband as our hosts were absolutely heaven sent. Judy let's you know everything going on around you in regards to events, best places to shop for souvenirs, and best food trucks to visit. The hospitality is so welcoming and warming and their property really makes you feel like you're HOME. The BBQ area and the tiki torches are definitely my favorite. We are so happy that we found this location and met the people we did. Ohana is really everything here and we felt like we were welcomed as one of their own. The unit itself is fully furnished with everything you can possibly imagine. There were snorkels, fins, bikes, literally everything. The view was great and again the location and price were unmatched. Thanks again

Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this bungalow apartment and absolutely loved our time there. This was our first time to Hawaii and we wanted to spend it in a quiet part of Oahu before taking the cruise to the other Hawaiian islands. This apartment met all our needs. It was very clean and neat and includes everything you might need for cooking as well as sand chairs, snorkel gear, cooler, etc.) Judy was very helpful with recommendations for beaches, restaurants and sightseeing. It is was short walk to a lovely beach and then in the evening you can catch pretty sunsets. It was wonderful falling asleep hearing the waves. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. We hope to return someday.

Could Not Be Any Better

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Mark and Judy's place the end of September and we feel like we have friends on the north shore now!! They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and were so helpful and kind.

The bungalow had everything we were looking for. Our list for a place to stay included: affordable, clean, kitchen, secure parking, and close to the beach. They had all of that plus all the extras. We loved riding the bikes on the bike path and taking the snorkel gear to nearby Sharks Cove, Three Tables and Waimea Bay. They have boogie boards, beach chairs, cooler, books to read, beach towels, an umbrella, etc. . . . they have thought of everything! Its a beautiful area. Their yard is beautiful with all the different plants and flowers. Its all very well maintained. You can see the ocean from the front window and hear the surf. Its about a 3 minute walk to the beach and we loved watching the beautiful sunsets there. We would ride the bikes to Teds and grab dinner and loved trying the food trucks all along there. We also ate in a couple of times and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware to use. We really appreciated the parking- its literally right outside the door and you can see your car from the front window. We always felt safe coming back late at night. They also had shampoo, body wash, soap, bug spray included. They seriously had thought of everything.

I feel like the pictures accurately show what the place looks like, but I felt like when we got there it was even better than we expected. The pictures don't show the tiled shower with a glass door and flat screen tv. It was super clean and plenty of space for the two of us. It just felt very comfortable and cozy.

Mark and Judy were so helpful in answering questions on things to do or see. It was fun to have a local's perspective on activities- like fun hikes, snorkeling, places to boogie board, etc. They were available for help, but weren't overbearing at all and gave us our space.

We have already recommended this place to a few friends! We loved it and felt like it was perfect for us and made our trip so fun. We felt like Mark and Judy were all about full disclosure with nothing to hide. We really appreciated their honesty.

If you haven't booked a place yet and are considering this bungalow, book it now!! We cannot say enough good things about it.
