Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9-10)

Our cozy house is located in St. Mary's Glacier addition of Idaho Springs. It is 10,000 feet high just 30 minutes from Denver. We have two bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen size bed and the other with double bunk beds. There is a full bath upstairs as well as a washer and dryer. Downstairs we have the living, dining and kitchen with a nice eat in bar and all the comforts of home. Downstairs also includes a half bath. There is a futon in the living room that folds out to queen size beds. A wood burning stove in the living room can heat the entire house but there are also electric wall heaters in every room.

We love to sit out on the deck in the morning and drink our coffee while we wait for the deer to frolic by on their way to the creek that backs up to the property. Hummingbirds fly around and birds and squirrels are plentiful. 4-wheeling trails are abundant in the St. Mary area and many can be accessed from our house. The Indian Hot Springs are just a short drive down to Idaho Springs which also has rafting and plentiful shopping. Of course if you want to take a short 30 minute drive you can be in Central City and Black Hawk where you can try your luck with Black Jack, Craps or Slots!

About The Owner

We are from Whitney, TX., where it is near 100 degrees sometimes for 2 months in the summer. We have taken our vacations in the Rocky Mountains for many years and have always wanted a place there. We have retired now and we will split our time between Texas and Colorado. We would love to share our place in the mountains with others when we can't be there.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Front Range

Cool weather, beautiful scenery and lots of 4-wheeling trails where you can go directly from the house without ever loading your 4-wheelers.

What makes this house unique

Relaxing on the deck with a great view of the mountains and wild life all around you. 4-wheeling trails everywhere around you. Casino's within 30 minutes. Hiking trails abundant.

Great getaway

Loved this cabin and property! Very quiet and peaceful. Has everything you need and more. The dogs loved the streams and the woods. Really enjoyed the long weekend here. Beautiful scenery. Went to St Mary's Glacier which is super close to the house.

In the Mountains!

  • 5 of 5

I travelled to this area because we love the mountains, hiking, and site seeing. There are beautiful views and lakes all around. One our favorite things is to see local wildlife. On the last morning of our 3 night stay a large moose was just 15 feet from the deck. We watched him enjoy breakfast from the sliding glass doors in the living room. It was an amazing site.

The cabin is cozy and comfortable. Plenty of space for everyone. Lots of deck space and places to enjoy the outdoors. The walk down to the creek was just right. There is a picnic table and horseshoes there.

Great place! We had a very nice stay.

The cabin met our needs nicely - we especially enjoyed the location and outdoor scenery.

This cabin is not big or fancy but fit our needs well! All you need to cook and eat there as a family. I had forgotten my air mattress to use in the living room, but the couch mattress was really thicker, fuller, heavier and more comfortable than most air mattresses. It's a perfect location with quick access to St. Mary's Glacier and some hiking trails up to Lock Lohman and James Peak including the Continental Divide- it was very cool! It was private enough even though there are homes close by. One problem though was the phone line and Internet was not working so we had no wifi. The homeowner said he contacted the phone company which said a line had been cut and they were working on it. Absolutely beautiful mountain areas all around!!

Just what the doctor ordered!

  • 5 of 5

This place has exceeded my expectations.Joe was great on making sure we were taken care of.

This home was in secluded friendly neighborhood. Very quiet and enjoyed my first time catching a glimpse of hummingbirds. Walk to the creek not far from the home.i enjoyed a challenging hike up St Mary's Glacier where there's snow near the top in August.

I will definitely return but next time will be for a longer stay.great for the family or a couples retreat.

Loved it!!

Amazing! Great for ATVs and Hiking

  • 5 of 5

This house was exactly what we were looking for! It's an adorable and very well kept home. The downstairs is an open living room, kitchen, dining room combo so it was easy for our whole family to spend time together. They have the house stocked so you don't need to haul a lot of stuff there. Even little things like spices, pots/pans/skillets, measuring cups, sugar, paper towels, coffee filters, etc.The porch has gates on it so that made it easy for us to let our younger kids play outside where we could watch them and also know they were semi-contained. We loved the little stream at the back of the property; it has a picnic table, horseshoe pits, washer pits, and is very peaceful. Definitely take the short walk down there if you stay at this house. The neighborhood is quiet, and there are trees between the houses so you still feel lots of privacy without feeling completely secluded. We chose this house after chatting with the owner, Joe, and him saying that the house was close to ATV trails. Turns out there are LOTS of trails around! There was a trail at the back of the neighborhood that took us up to a small lake (Loch Lomand) and the views were breathtaking. We woke up early every day we were there and crossed over Fall River Rd to a big network of trails in the mountains. We were sad to leave and highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a great getaway, especially if you want outdoor trails to ride ATVs on or to go hiking.

Wonderful cabin for family get-away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I took our family here. We have 3 young kids. The house itself is wonderful. Spacious, a nice kitchen, and the upstairs is really nice. The house was very well stocked with supplies, both in the kitchen and elsewhere. We enjoyed fires in the wood-burning stove, and we really enjoyed the wrap-around deck with gates. There were constantly humming birds at the feeders. The creek was also fun behind the property. Because the area is dense with vegetation and wildlife, we kept kids close because you can't see the creek from the house.

There is plenty to do very nearby. Saint Mary's Glacier is very close by, and definitely worth the hike. We had no problem filling our 7 day vacation and wished we could fit more in. We really enjoyed driving the route that takes you northwest to Rocky Mountain National Park.

We are from the flat midwest, so driving the mountain road you take up to the house took some getting used to. We did deal with some car and altitude sickness, because the house is really at over 10,000 feet. The drive from the highway up the mountain is about 20 minutes. This isn't a complaint, just an fyi to others, especially parents of young kids.

Overall a great experience and highly recommended.
