Steps from the historic district, minutes from the beach

Built in 1905, The Little Yellow Townhouse off Whitefield Square features original heart pine floors, 12' ceilings, 4 fireplaces, and an abundance of natural light.

A sweet back porch and private, well-shaded backyard make a serene backdrop for morning coffee or evening wine and conversation.

Situated in a residential section of Savannah's beautiful historic district, The Little Yellow Townhouse is within easy walking distance of popular destinations like River Street and City Market. Antique shops, museums, boutiques, and restaurants, including Clary's Cafe - made famous/infamous in 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' - are all just a few minutes walk from the house. There are convenient, off-street parking options across the street, as well as a free shuttle service that stops nearby. The townhouse is also a beautiful, short, and easy drive to our closest beach, Tybee Island.

In addition to its original charming detail, the townhouse offers two airy upstairs bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, 1 1/2 bathrooms, a dining room, and a comfortable living room with cable and wifi. Each bedroom hosts a queen size bed; additionally, there is a pull out sofa and inflatable mattress for extra guests. The house comfortably sleeps 4-6 guests, with extra options for children.

Tastefully furnished, the house is uncluttered and family-friendly, with a closet full of kid gear, including baby gates, a crib, strollers, and a high chair - even a baby monitor, as well as equipment for guests looking to visit the beach.

About Travis Loller and James Nichols

We are a family of four; the girls are 9 years old and 11 years old. They love Savannah as much as we do, and have been vacationing here since they were born.

Travis Loller and James Nichols purchased this townhome in 2003

Why Travis Loller and James Nichols chose Historic District - South

We lived in this house when we were working in Savannah and Hilton Head. Our work took us elsewhere, and we have kept the home because we love spending time here.

What makes this townhome unique

Tall ceilings, the warm glow of heart pine floors and tastefully restrained furnishings create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and make it a pleasure to spend time here. For free entertainment, just step outside and tour the historic district. We're a short walk from just about everything including numerous restaurants; an ice cream parlor; a historic theater that hosts movies, plays and musical performances; Forsyth Park with its iconic fountain and a children's playground; book stores; grocery stores; bars and antiques.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The trolley tour that picked us up in front of the Cathedral was informative and

also convenient in that we could get on and off all day. We enjoyed the Piano

Bar near River Street, and we just loved walking around town. We loved the stay

so much we would like to just move there now. We can't wait to come back. -Bill

Good location

  • 3 of 5

I have visited Savannah numerous times usually always in March. I’ve stayed in historic homes, carriage houses, and hotels during visits. Here is a list of Pros and Cons of this House:

1. Location - convenient parking and basically across the street from Whitefield Square.

2. Ease of rental. We reserved and paid online. Received email with code to get in the house. No need to meet in person to get keys.

3. Washer/dryers is convenient (although compact due to size of the home. We didn’t have an issue with this.)

4. The high chair (used every evening), baby gates available (although it turns out we didn’t actually use them), and puzzle/toys.

5. Comfortable beds

6. The home was clean but has old tile and grout.

1. Sheer curtains in the back bedroom and blinds that only go partway up in the front bedroom. The front bedroom doesn’t get dark because the streetlights constantly shine through the large space not covered by the blinds. The back bedroom is darker because it’s away from the street however there isn’t much privacy because of the sheer curtains.

2. The inconsistent heating/cooling of the house. I’ve stayed in historic homes in Savannah before but this was a major issue for me in the house. The downstairs was so cold we couldn’t enjoy it in early mornings or evenings (lows were in mid 30’s). The upstairs was extremely warm. There was no happy medium. I imagine in the summer downstairs would be comfortable but upstairs in the bedrooms would be hot.

3. The shower got lukewarm at best. It made for very quick showers.

4. The house is on a busy street so you will hear traffic and anyone walking by.

Overall we enjoyed the location and the use of the high chair during our stay. We will be back to Savannah again.

Good location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying in this rental. Good location. Easy walking distance to a lot of areas. Definitely need to eat at Hitch which is an easy walk. Quick drive to the Riverwalk area and to the Olde Pink House which is another definite place to eat while there.

Good Vacation

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this property during St. Patricks weekend. The location was okay it is on a busy street I would say. If you are a light sleeper like me I would definetly bring a sound machine. The windows are not sealed well so you can hear everything and everyone who drives or walks by. Also the curtains on the windows are sheer so it becomes bright in the room very early. River street is a little far from this property so be aware to wear good shoes to walk it's about a 15-20 min walk I would say. Everything else in the property was good. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting Savannah again sometime soon.

A real gem in the historic district

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic historic house with gorgeous architecture and furniture. House was very homely and relaxing. Two bedrooms worked out well for traveling with a baby and had baby equipment available. Great location and gorgeous neighborhood with short walk to center and beautiful houses and parks nearby. Street at night was busier than expected and with older house noise was a bit more noticeable. Overall highly recommended, fantastic stay.
