About Kent & Krista Maurer
My husband Kent and I retired to our dream life on beautiful B.C.'s Sunshine Coast. I was a high school art teacher and now an artist. Kent, a retired member of the Vancouver Police Department is constantly occupied with the care and up-keep of our home, cottage, and grounds. Our home sits on an acre waterfront lot overlooking some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. We look forward to sharing this amazing place with many guests. Welcome!
Kent & Krista Maurer purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Kent & Krista Maurer chose Irvines Landing
We built our cottage (carriage house) first and lived there while our main home was being built. We chose this location because it was simply the most beautiful place we had ever seen. We have travelled many places but believe nothing compares to Daniel Point! It may be off the beaten track for some but that is why we love it here!
What makes this Cottage unique
The sunsets are unforgettable! Wildlife abounds all around; multiple pairs of eagles have a nests close by, daily deer sightings are not uncommon. Explore amazing volcanic rock formations and tidal pools with a myriad of sea creatures just down a set of steps to Daniel Point Marine Park at the end of our driveway.Pods of Orca Whales as well as large schools of feeding dolphins are spectacular sights from time to time. The star filled night skies will take your breath away!

We've booked for our 4th stay for this September long weekend
There really is not much more to say :-)
We're going back for our 4th time. This place is like no other we've ever visited. It was the owners' first home on this property and they built a much bigger place nearby. All the stuff they had was left behind so you are enjoying a real house full of art, a full kitchen with 2 or more types of coffee etc. Not like a VRBO where you know it's set up to rent out; this is basically their own oasis for their family that is under VRBO for the time being. We arrive, plunk our food and goodies in the fridge and enjoy. We realized this place was like home the 2nd time we came back ... we instantly felt at home. Now it's our home away from home when we need a break.
If we get ambitious, we go for a walk to Daniel Point, a stroll of 5 mins but usually we just hang out, catch up on reading and make sumptuous meals (their kitchen has everything, including real knives and sharpening steels etc.). The BBQ is on the deck so really close to the kitchen. Mostly we just sit and enjoy the views. Wifi and TV etc. are there too and work well but we never really bother with it.
Beautiful, quiet, amazing view
We had an amazing time at the Blue Orca Cottage. The place is stunning, views are simply breath taking. It is the perfect spot for anybody who wish to get away from the city and chill in a quiet, beautiful place.
Kent and Kirsta are very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed to have a great stay.
We will definitely be back!
We loved our stay at the Blue Orca. The accommodations were well appointed and comfortable with everything we needed. We could not get over the views. We’d highly recommend this place. Looking forward to coming again!
Definitely recommend this lovely spot.
We had such a relaxing weekend here, beautiful views and very comfortable quarters. The owners have decorated it with a loving touch and have provided everything you could possibly need. You will enjoy it !!
A Perfect Oasis
We agree with the 69 5-Star reviews! A truly wonderful experience in this stunning spot with 280 degree unobstructed views where we felt instantly at home. There were many touches that made it very special and so easy to settle in and relax. We hardly left because it was so perfect although did take advantage of some local walks, hikes, and restaurants. Immaculately clean, a well-laid out design, well-equipped kitchen, comfy bed and the lovely artistic touches (Krista is a talented artist!) made it even more spectacular. It was our fourth rental in the area, and by far, was the best.
Kent and Krista were great hosts. They were warm, hospitable and also respected our privacy. We received a stunning art print that will get framed and hung as a wonderful memory of our time in Blue Orca cottage. We couldn't have asked for better experience and we will be back! Thanks so much Kent and Krista!!!!!
A little piece of paradise
Can't say enough good things about this property. Beautiful location, super comfortable accommodation. The view is out of this world!
Blue Orca Cottage is located at the very end of Orca Road at Daniel Point. Daniel Point is the long narrow Peninsula shown on the map. We are the last property on the culdesac. Madeira Park, a vibrant marine community is nearby and has all you will need for supplies and Village activities. The Cottage is steps away from Daniel Point Marine Park for stellar hikes and views. No need to leave your deck though, the views are even better from your comfortable deck chairs! Boating, boat or float plane tours, diving, hiking, birdwatching, storm watching, swimming, fishing, golfing, music festivals, art tours, star gazing or simply enjoying the fascinating boat traffic are favorite activities in the area.
