About Al Kay

We are semi-retired and enjoy spending time on the Lake with family, friends and grandchildren. We have lived in nearby San Antonio for the past 45 years where I am involved in the Insurance Business. Our roots go a long way back in New Braunfels where my great grandfather was the pastor of the First United Methodist Church from 1881 to 1886..

Al Kay purchased this house in 2000

Why Al Kay chose Hill Country

There is so much to do in and near Historic New Braunfels. We are located on the edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country.

What makes this house unique

There are so many fun things to do nearby. The largest water park in the USA is located 2 miles away. Tubing the Guadalupe river is always popular in the summer. All the attractions of San Antonio are only a short drive away. Shopping at the largest outlet mall in Texas near San Marcos is only 20 Minutes away. Bring your boat or jetski and tie up at our dock. There is a boat launch located at the IH35 bridge.

EIGHT WEEK STAY with ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE

  • 5 of 5

This home paved the way for my family and I to make a business trip into an enjoyable vacation. We stayed here for eight weeks and were very pleased. The home is large and open, and the view is stunning, especially after a pleasant rain. We will certainly miss the panoramic view in the living room and the upstairs master. The home is bright and ushers in ample natural light. You can watch cardinals relaxing in the trees in the morning, cows grazing across the river in the afternoon, and fireflies dancing on the deck in the evening.

There are several great features to this home, but I’ll give it to you bullet style because I’m sure you want to continue reading and browsing. Hope this helps you make a decision!

Things We Liked & Loved

- absolutely gorgeous view (can I pack this up and take it home?)

- tons of space; pictures do not do justice; did not feel crowded even maxing out at 12

- Heater/AC work fantastic

- Internet speed good for streaming and hosting multiple devices

- ample kitchen tools/pantry supplies

- quiet neighborhood; friendly people

- outdoor furniture in good condition; deck is great & enjoyable resource; plenty of seating

- heater vent in bathrooms for colder mornings

- master bath nice and open; huge tub

- laundry room good size with updated washer/dryer

- provided a pack-n-play for young child

- quick maintenance service (within 24 hours even for non-urgent)

- friendly management staff/owner; easy to work with

- parking for up to six cars

- fell in love with city of New Braunfels; great community with several things to do

- about 30-40 mins to downtown San Antonio and all the wonderful attractions there

Things We Didn’t Like

- small yard for big pet; not enough yard for young kids to play in (we found great parks nearby though!)

- stairs (we have young kids), but they did provide safety gates

- lots of spiders outside (but hey, we're not from Texas!) Just be sure to wipe it all down before you sit!

Overall, our time here was memorable and enjoyable. We have a great appreciation for New Braunfels and for Texas. We are glad we found this home and will always remember it fondly.

Hernandez Family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I experienced a wonderful stay. When we arrived the home was very clean. It was spacious for our entire family. The patio allowed for a beautiful view early morning and of the lake below. The deck allowed us to enjoy our own little area of the lake. My daughters will be renting it next year for a girls get-away.

Warning!

  • 1 of 5

If it rains during your stay...beware of cleaning charge for water damage. Unfortunately the weekend we stayed it rained often each evening (Wimberly flood). The morning we left the carpet was soaked outside the utility room going into the bedroom/converted garage. I notified the Property Manager and promptly received a call from the owner. He was very accusatory of us causing the leak either by flooding the downstairs shower, clogging the toilet or overfilling the mop sink. He kept $200 from our deposit for carpet cleaning. I would recommend staying here but beware the house may have a leak. Also, the satellite did not work when we arrived (NBA Playoffs). We were told we may get a discount but never did.

House with Great View

  • 4 of 5

We spend a wonderful time in this beautiful view house on July 2014. Everything is great. Good location. nice deck looking down the river ( or lake). The only small complaint is AC in master bed room blowing too strong, too cold. We have to close the vent, but it keeps blowing down to the bed. When other room is still a little warm, because most of cool air keep blowing in master bed. Another issue is the fan is too dusty. We have to wipe down the fan, and we do not mind. We will be back soon.
