Beautiful, Pet-friendly Family Home Near North Beach and Lighthouse

Space 1,730 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Our home is nestled in between Jaycee Park and the historic Officers Row homes that were built as part of Fort Screven. We have a walking right of way to the ocean through the yard of one of those big Victorians and through what was once the parade grounds for the fort for a total of 2 short blocks. There you'll find miles of beach to walk or bike on at low tide. Keep your eyes open for dolphin sightings.

Our beautiful, quiet neighborhood is full of ancient live oak trees, many draped with Spanish moss. We have a view of the antique Tybee Lighthouse from our porch and you can hear the surf. The park behind our home has a basketball court, walking/bike paths, a softball field and playground, etc.

There are many good restaurants on the island and our favorite casual family bar, Huc a Poos is easily bikable. North Beach Grill, 80 east Gastro Pub, Fish Camp and Sundae Cafe are within walking distance. There are two dog parks a few blocks north of our home--one for dogs under 20 pounds and one for all dogs to run in a fenced in environment. Tybee does not currently allow dogs on the beach. If you disagree with this policy as we do, please go on and let our city council know how you feel.

Check-in is 4 p.m. Checkout is 11 a.m. unless other arrangements have been made.

About annie estes

We came to Tybee in January, 2005 for a getaway vacation. We rented a place for 6 weeks and didn't want to leave. We thought we would begin exploring the GA coastline each winter before deciding where we would want to purchase a retirement place. Once on Tybee we knew we didn't need to see any other places and bought a building lot before we left. We built a very spatially and energy efficient home in 2008 we know you will love. We would live in this house year-round if it were not for grandchildren we want to spend time with in VA and PA. Cliff is a retired college math professor and Annie ran Mystic Cooking School in CT for fifteen years. This photo was taken on River Street, Savannah our first winter here with our American Bulldog, Dottie.

Why annie estes chose Tybee Island

We were thrilled to find such a casual small town with such a relaxed pace. It is a pleasure to ride our bikes to the library, our little IGA grocery store, on the beach at low tide, and to friendly bars and restaurants. The residents are friendly and made us feel right at home. A quick trip in the car and we're in a good-sized city with all the shopping, restaurants, and more cultural offerings than you have time for--lot of college students to keep things hopping.

What makes this house unique

We have a great collection of cookbooks to browse or actually use, some DVDs (especially chick flicks and baseball movies) and CDs (playable in the DVD player). There are a few toddler toys, sippie cups and baby dishes, Chico high chair, a booster seat, pottie seat that goes onto a toilet.

Awesome house in a great neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

I've been going to Savannah for 20 years, but this was the first time I decided to rent/stay in Tybee. This house was perfect; North End of Tybee so away from the noise, with a park behind the house, and the beach a short few blocks away. Very quickly, this began to feel like a home away from home. The house is very updated, with newer HVAC, kitchen, etc. Being pet friendly was a big help, as we were able to have our entire entourage in one place. Couldn't ask for more.

the house was great but

I was disappointed the beach was not as near as I was made to believe. We put our chairs towels all my husbands fish equipment in a wagon, not available due to stairs. This was the first year in at least 10 yrs we did not make it to beach.

Owner's Response: Hello, Gail I'm sorry you felt misled by the description of the walk to the beach. It is two short blocks due east as written in the description, a 4 minute walk for me as a senior citizen without having to cross any major thoroughfare. In the House Handbook I also tell everyone they can load everything up in the car and drop stuff and people off at North Beach and the driver can go back to the house, park the car, and walk to the beach and then you don't have to pay to park. Or with a cart and no car, it is 2-3 blocks to walk to North Beach depending on which way you go. It feels convenient to us, but everyone has different standards I guess.

Comfortable and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The house was among the most comfortable rental properties that I have ever stayed in, with a perfect location and an inviting interior. I stayed here the weekend following Irma. (I was attending a friend's destination wedding.) The AC seemed to have suffered a little damage from the hurricane, and Annie and her manager, Libby, could not have been nicer or more accommodating in helping to resolve the situation despite dealing with the hurricane aftermath themselves. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a great experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your understanding following Hurricane Irma. The power was only restored at noon on your arrival date and we were anxious about that! A power surge must have given that thermostat a jolt for sure. It is fine now. We are grateful to have survived Matthew and Irma without any damage to the house. So glad you enjoyed your time at our place. We always wish we could be there to show our guests around and deal with any issues that come up. Hope you can come back another, less dramatic, time!

Beauty and the Beach

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful home and gracious owner. The property was just as described and more. Very comfortable and inviting. Everything that you could possibly need is right there including directions on how to use everything from the shower to the television and DVD player. So helpful. I cooked every meal in the awesome kitchen and loved it. The area is wonderful and we wished that we could have stayed longer. The short walk to the beach is a breeze and as pretty as can be. We hope that we will be able to return to Beauty and the Beach again for another incredible vacation.

4.5 Stars. Great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed for a full week over the 4th of July. The location of the home was amazing. Being on the North side of the island, the house is far removed from the "tourist" section down by the pier. Very quiet and seemed much slower paced, which was fine by us. The house is less than 5 minute walk and we had sand under our feet. The lighthouse was just over a quarter mile away. Plenty of restaurants within a short drive. We couldn't have asked for a better location! The house was great too! The screened in porch was fantastic, especially at night. The kitchen was fully stocked with about anything you could ever need and there was plenty of space to prepping, cooking, and serving. There was plenty of room for everyone and the amenities were nice. The house (and owners) were very pet friendly. The half star deduction only comes from very few things, and it getting pretty nit-picky. The outdoor pet area (and the yard too) hadn't been cut in some time. The grass in the kennel was worse than the yard. The bicycles both had flat tires. Lastly, the door that leads to the living room from the downstairs bedroom needs some attention. Like I said, really nit picking. We would stay again without hesitation! You will love the property and location if you choose to do so!

Owner's Response: Hello, Kris Thanks for the kind words and feedback. I do request that our guests let us know as soon as they arrive if there are any concerns we should address. I guess grass grows very fast in the tropics. lol. It had been mowed the week before. I'm hiring someone whose only job will be to monitor the dog kennel. We DO NOT offer any bicycles with the house, so I don't know whose those were that you found in the yard! We'd be happy to have you back anytime!

Awesome--Peaceful--Meditative Harmony ---

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful family vacation! My 85yr old mother walked to the surf each morning. We enjoyed a walk-around the park each evening. The large dining table sat all 10 of us comfortably and we spent much time within the screened-in porch with cooling fan. A most relaxing time we had!
