Lovely house on beautiful shorefront property on Western side of MDI. This 5 acre property has gently sloping fields to a wonderful cobblestone beach with private deep water granite pier and dock. The first floor has a kitchen, bathroom, dining room living room, office and reading parlor. The upstairs has 3 bedrooms. The master has a double futon and the 2 smaller bedrooms have each have 2 twin beds. A new kitchen has just been installed.
The beach is perfect for private lobster bakes, shelling and searching for sea glass or simply enjoying the incredible sunsets. The 150' pier with 24' floating dock will accommodate your boating activities along with a mooring suitable for a 50' vessel. The area is ideally suited for kayaking and sailing in the protected reaches of Blue Hill Bay.
The Southwestern exposure provides incredible views towards Swans Island and the outer reaches of Blue Hill Bay.
The villages of Bass Harbor and Bernard are approximately 1 mile away. There's great hiking along the shore or in the nearby National Park. An easy walk to the nearby bus stop provides free bus service throughout the island. The location is truly amazing and must be seen to be appreciated.

Basic cottage for families and pets
This summer holiday cottage is rustic, and that will be the source of its charm for those who enjoy it. With five twin beds, two double beds, and one bathroom, this property is designed for families looking for simple accommodations on the quiet side of the island. Its steep staircase will be a concern for those with mobility issues or young children. Furnishings are worn, but the basics are provided. Expect no "extras" (no wifi; second floor overhead lighting is from bare bulbs on the ceiling; linens and towels have seen better days). Could benefit from some TLC and a deep clean to bring things up to snuff. Be sure to contact owner well in advance to get clear instructions on how to find the cottage. We had to rely on kind neighbors to locate it.
Great little place! Especially for pets!
We spent a week here and it was really a lovely time. The views can't be beat, and having a dog, it's hard to find rental properties that are pet friendly. This one was not only pet friendly but ideal for dogs! Tons of space for them to run around! There was also plenty of space for us to move around inside and have guests come to visit. The shared space with the other rental properties on the land wasn't a huge issue, but we did kind of feel like we were imposing on their space when going down to the doc/beach area. Still, there were lots of things close by and only about 1/2 hour to Bar Harbor and parts of Acadia. Definitely would recommend it for families with pets!
Excellent, beautiful and quiet location, clean house
This cottage was perfect for what we were looking for this summer. A quiet house in a beautiful waterfront location, close enough to places to visit yet away from the crowds of Acadia. After a day or hiking or siteseeing our family loved coming home to such a clean and pretty spot on the ocean. Our dog loved the large yard which rolls down to the sea. Our kids liked looking for lucky rocks on the beach and putting feet into the water off the dock. It was too cold for swimming but there are lakes for that. The other 2 rentals on the property weren't an issue at all. We joined them for a relaxing beach bonfire one night and all were in awe of the stargazing!! All in all, a wonderful place to get away which we would love to repeat next year.
This property was a great location and setting for our family to stay on the quiet side of MDI. The cape is rustic and simple, but very nice. The beach and dock are shared with two other rental properties, which we did not expect, but it worked out just fine. Beautiful place.
We love this place
My husband and I really enjoyed staying in this authentic captain's cottage. It was very clean, comfortable, perfectly stocked, yet nicely uncluttered. The photos do not capture the immensity of the 5-acre lawn. My spaniel got his daily exercise playing fetch and retrieve on it. There are 2 other small rental cabins on the lot, but you're not really aware of them much thanks to the smart landscaping. We also liked staying away from the madding crowds of the east side, while being within comfortable driving distance to all the great Mt Desert destinations. From the dock, we saw a seal, a dolphin, a spectacular sunset, and stars at night. On a clear day, we could look out the dining room window across Blue Hill Bay all the way to Swan's Island. On one rainy night, the wood-fire stove in the living room kept us cozy. We had such a marvelous time here that we've already booked a reservation for next year.
This house was perfect for us. Lovely location with a large grassy yard leading to a peaceful beach where we sat, swam, wandered on the rocks, and enjoyed nighttime fires. The lovely cape is situated in a nice, peaceful neighborhood with a short drive to town, great restaurants, hiking and swimming in Acadia National park. The house was so clean when we arrived and had everything we needed. The owner was extremely helpful and nice, we are looking forward to vacationing here again.
Bass Harbor/Tremont is referred as the quiet side of the island. Close to Bass Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Acadia National Park. Free bus stops at the end of Richtown road for easy access to all points on the island. Easy access to ferries to Cranberry islands, Swans island and Long island
