Take a step back in time. Back when Jokerville, Teocali and Peanut were mines instead of ski runs. Back when the Company Store was actually owned by the mine company. Back when a single gas stove on each side provided the only heat for the large two-story duplex on Elk Avenue. And the cooking was done on a cast iron wood stove.
By the mid-1950s, the mines were closing and the outlook for Crested Butte looked grim. D.A. and Altha Hunt (affectionately known by family and friends as Poncho and Blossom) came to the area to do some uranium prospecting and fell in love with the beauty of the area, the cool summertime temperatures, and the opportunity to indulge in a land time forgot and decided to buy the big yellow duplex. They added bathrooms in former closets on both sides of the duplex and a tradition began.
Soon their whole family was coming to escape the Texas heat. They discovered autumn afforded spectacular beauty as the aspen leaves shook in vivid yellows. The trout fishing in the mountain streams and lakes is second to none. Then came the ski area and they were back for skiing at the premiere ski resort in the Rockies.
Now, you and your family can create one of a kind memories that will last a lifetime as well. Extensive remodeling has enlarged the house to seven full bedrooms and four and a half baths. The kitchen features a full-size oven and two dishwashers. You will appreciate many things about the house like its proximity to shuttle service, washer and dryer availability, two water heaters so the hot water keeps on coming, satellite television with the latest flat screen LCD, and many beautiful antique furnishings, some of which are original to the house when purchased back in the mid-1950s.
Each room has electric blankets and a furnace heats the downstairs allowing that warmth to rise to the second and third floors above. Open windows on the upper floors keep you cool in the summertime.
