What is Tahoe Tip? Tahoe Tip is a nickname some of the North Tahoe locals gave to Don after he and Lana left the freeways of Southern California behind and became full-time residents at the family cabin. Lana & Don purchased this cabin in 1977 as a second home and fulfilled one of Don's lifelong dreams of immersing his family in this mountain paradise. Born in Hannibal Missouri, Dad was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, and the first 'leave' he took, he hitchhiked up to what his fellow airmen referred to as, 'THAT BEAUTIFUL LAKE, HIGH UP IN THE MAJESTIC SIERRA NEVADA'S'. At the very moment he first passed over the Brockway Summit and witnessed the most beautiful sight he had ever set his eyes upon, he knew that one day this magical mountain paradise would be called his home, (or second home initially).....And that's where this Fairytale story of the man, his family and the mountain lake they so love began, over 50 years ago...... Having transferred from the East coast with his career to Northern California earlier that year, Lake Tahoe was an easy drive for the weekend, and we explored as much of Tahoe's shoreline every chance we could get away. Though when Dad received the last of his (seemingly countless) transfers to Southern California and the drive became 8 hours (10 hours for Mom & Dad) instead of 2, it became clear that we weren't going to be able to get there as often. The story of our first trip to the cabin, the Ford Country Squire station wagon loaded up with 4 kids, a dog (through a blizzard) dragging furnishings for the whole house and everything 'including the kitchen sink' in a oversized trailer with the roof rack piled high is one of family legend...seriously, you just had to be their to understand. This is just one of the fond memories I will never forget.

Why Owner chose Tahoe Vista
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! Isn't that how the old saying goes? We wanted our kids to be able to walk to the Lake (and now hiking trails), in a nice quiet neighborhood, and close enough to the incredible skiing in the Tahoe basin.
What makes this House unique
Walking to the lake! Relaxing in a covered spa watching the snow fall, enjoying a good book near the cracklin' fire, taking our dog for long walks, having coffee on the front porch amongst the giant trees, simply getting away from it all!

Great cabin and awesome location
Spent a weekend with friends and arriving at this cabin following near whiteout driving conditions was such a relief!! The cabin can sleep a good many people and is very comfortable. So close to the Lake and King’s Beach + awesome skiing!!! Win- Win. The owner is incredibly nice and responds quickly to any question or request. And the neighbors are also super friendly - helped us out when one of our cars got stuck in the snow. Will definitely be back in the future!! Thank you for letting us share your home for the weekend.
Lovely, rustic, warm, friendly cabin - Stay off stairs
This is such a warm and friendly cabin. There is a feel of the place that invokes the many loving family moments spent here. This is not a luxury cabin, but everything is functional. Do not use the stairs, they are very dangerous.
Pros: The kitchen is very well stocked and has anything you could possibly need. Lots of silverware and serving ware.
Heater and fireplace work really well! The fireplace is a real treat because it's so large and beautiful. Firewood was supplied.
The technology is new, plentiful, amd easy to use. (Note that wifi password is different than what we received in email message, but it's posted on the fridge and guest book).
The furnishings are very cozy and comfortable, including leather seating in the living room. The decorations are obviously collected over many years with thoughtful consideration. We played a game of counting the bears in the living room and it was fun to see who could find the most (18 we found - so fun!).
The beds and bedding were comfortable and there were more than enough towels. Some of the pillows were flattened but we just doubled them over and everyone slept fine.
The jacuzzi is newer and was wonderfully hot. It's covered in case of rain or snow or falling pine cones.
The backyard is fenced off which is great for a family dog.
The parking is very spacious and the front of the house only has 2 steps making it very easy to enter and exit. It's flat and only a few feet to the car.
The stairs to the small upstairs bedroom are dangerous. We recommended to the owner to block these off for renters. We had a child tumble head over heals down the stairs. Two other people slipped and fell on their bottoms. These are narrow, steep, shallow, and carpeted but somehow still slippery. We recommend that renters just stay off the stairs and don't use the upstairs little room. Really!
The cabin main structure (livingroom and dining room) is built like a castle with really cool beams, solid hardwood floors, and huge rustic hardware. These are timeless styles and materials. But the added-on areas (kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms) are built from lesser expensive materials (laminate, acrylic, etc.) and are dated. This is not a luxury cabin. It's clean, just know what you're getting. It's warm, friendly, a bit dated, and a great value. We would stay here again.
Quaint Cabin with High Capacity!
This cabin was great for our large group, and we all enjoyed our stay immensely. We unfortunately did not have any snow, but the cabin proved a great home base for local hikes, and was very close to the lake for summer months. At night, the large fireplace kept us very warm.
The primary issue we had during the stay was that both showers are connected to bedrooms, so if you have many people staying in the upstairs room or downstairs bunk beds, you will need to coordinate showers accordingly.
Happy you enjoyed your weekend at our family home. Please come again!
Older home with character!
We had a small family reunion 12 people (9 adults and 3 teenagers) in this home. There was plenty of space for us. Parking was not an issue for 4 vehicles. The home is older, clean, and comfortable. My husband said it was a "classic cabin" atmosphere. The bedrooms and larger rooms with bunk beds worked out great for married and singles. We did encounter a few problems with the hot water, kitchen, and linens, but the owner was always quick to respond, and the problems solved!
The kitchen was slightly on the small side, making the flow of cooking with people walking thru a challenge. The kitchen was adequately stocked, but would appreciate less worn pots and pans.
Added benefit - relaxing in the hot tub!
Wonderful family! Please come and enjoy our home again!
Happy New Year,
Great place for a large group vacation!
Very well-kept house. Having the fenced-in backyard was nice to maintain privacy. Rooms were very comfortable and the location was perfect for a weekend at the lake.
Worked well for our group.
Older property but clean and functional. Served our purpose well for a quick family get together of 7 people. Stayed 2 nights (sat/sun). There is a house being built 2 doors down so you will hear hammering construction noise which we easily noticed monday morning. Very close to beach ( down short block & across the street) and 5 minute drive to 3 casinos in NV. Didn't use DVD player, hot tub, BBQ, oven or fireplace so can't comment on those. 2 rooms off of kitchen with 2 bunk beds in each - you have to go thru one to get to back room so there will be traffic disturbing some folks; the door between the rooms does not shut completely. 1 bedroom is up steep stairs & can get relatively warm since it has only 1 small window at head of bed. Bedding was fine. Kitchen had all the necessaries. Half bath (toilet) is off of living room and worked fine. 2 other bathrooms are only accessible thru bedrooms. 1 shower, 1 shower/tub - water pressure/shower heads were fine. Hot water was not very hot with limited capacity for the # of folks - fast tepid showers. Driveway easily accommodated 3 cars. WiFi was very limited. Clean neat & tidy. Immediate return of security deposit upon departure.
