Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5-7)

Vacation Rental where you can feel completely at home. 2 bedrooms (one with king and one with queen-sized, 1 twin bed and baby's crib and there is a queen-sized sofa bed in the living room), kitchen opening to living/dining room, entry hall, bath with bathtub with shower, separate WC with wash basin. Lots of closet and cupboard space for your use. Sleeps 4-7

Steiners' in Gumpendorf was renovated and furnished in August, 2009. It is a light – filled 95 sq m. (1023 sq. ft.), on the 6th floor (US 7th floor) with elevator. Built in the 70s it is set back behind a front building and therefore screened from any street noise. None of the other buildings are close and the view is of building roofs and tree tops.

The apartment is fully furnished, some modern, some antiques. We have internet and wifi and 2 cell phones and a computer for your use, cable TV and CD player. The kitchen is set up for complete at-home cooking and includes all appliances: large refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, Bosch food processor, filter coffee maker, toaster, juicer, blender as well as a large selection of casseroles, pots, and pans and lots of cupboards and work space. There are complete sets of tableware and kitchen utensils as well as Egyptian cotton linens. Maps, dictionaries, and guidebooks are there for your use as well as other reading material, puzzles, and games. The washer and dryer are enclosed in a closet in bedroom #2. The apartment has central heating and is warm and cozy in winter.

We looked at many apartments before buying this one which we loved because of its quiet and light-filled, spacious rooms. As you can see from their reviews our guests enjoy being in the apartment, in the old non-touristy neighborhood with banks, shops, and excellent restaurants steps away, Public transportation is excellent with the bus to downtown around the corner, the subway a 7-8 minute walk, and a taxi stand at the front door. Grocery shopping is great with one of the best bakeries and also butchers in Vienna. Small grocers plus supermarkets are steps away.. And, of course, the neighborhood is completely safe for walking alone or at night.

About Gerti Oelmack, Manager

The apartment is owned by Hans and Judith Steiner. We live in Palo Alto, California, but Hans is from Vienna. He is a Professor at Stanford University and consults at the University of Vienna. Judith is a retired executive director of an environmental nonprofit and has thoroughly enjoyed remodeling and furnishing an apartment with future guests in mind. We have three grown children who also love Vienna and our 40-year old with his wife were the first to stay in the apartment. Our son and his family moved to Vienna last year. We were happy to hear that not only people of our generation love the neighborhood, but the 30-year-olds do too.

Why Gerti Oelmack, Manager chose Vienna

Hans grew up in the neighborhood and we love to visit to take advantage of Vienna's special 'gemutlichkeit.' The Gumpendorf neighborhood where we are is a wonderful example of a 'gut buergerlich' (bourgeois) district with all the amenities that entails. But now young people are moving in, so there are not only traditional 'Gasthaus'es and wine gardens, but internet cafes, little bars, restaurants with updated Viennese cuisine. There are still old-fashioned shops - an excellent butcher, a sublime bakery, green grocers, and much more. And there are supermarkets and small grocery stores nearby. We eat well!

What makes this apartment unique

Steiners' Gumpendorf is just around the corner from Bus 57a which comes every 7-10 minutes and takes about 7 minutes to where it ends at the Ringstrasse, just at the Museum Quarter, and from there it is one subway stop or a short walk to the Opera or to Stephansplatz, the center of Vienna and the oldest district. At the other end of the 57a line, a short walk takes you to Schönbrunn Palace, the glorious baroque summer palace of the Hapsburgs with its park and gardens. The famous Naschmarkt with culinary delights, fresh organic produce, lively restaurants and a Saturday flea market is in the neighborhood. The famous shopping street, Mariahilferstrasse, is the next street parallel to Gumpendorferstrasse. The great amusement park, the Prater, can be easily reached by U-Bahn.

Vienna is rich with things to do from the opera and concerts to swimming in the Danube, from wine tasting in a nearby wine village to extraordinary variety of museums. Hiking opportunities abound and all are reachable by cheap, fast, clean, and safe public transit. Vienna is consistently listed as one of the most liveable cities in the world. And our apartment is in the heart of it.

Very comfortable nice apartment

We enjoyed staying in this apartment. It is very quiet as it is set back from the street, but that does mean that it's a bit of a walk from the street to the apartment. The apartment is very spacious, clean and well-kept. There are many guide books and information available. It is convenient to the U-bahn and there is a fabulous bakery just around the corner. We never figured out the street parking rules and got two parking tickets but there's supposed to be a garage nearby.

Spacious, fully equipped apartment

This apartment was spacious and fully equipped for a comfortable stay in Vienna. It was located a few steps from a direct and convenient bus route into the old city. It was also moments away from a drug store (Apothecary), a grocery store, and several restaurants. It was also a few blocks from a scenic walking, running, biking path along a canal that ran from the Old city in one direction and Schonbrunn Palace in the other.

Bright apartment in wonderful Viennese neighborhood

Great location, with a little bakery around the corner...as well as a pharmacy. The apartment is comfortable with lots of windows. Walking to the nearest Underground is ~8 min.

The small kitchen is well-stocked, and the washer/dryer are great.

Highly recommend!

A great location for exploring Vienna.

We stayed a week and had an excellent time. With the bakery just around the corner for breakfast treats. Frequent 57A bus service into central Vienna or a twenty minute walk when feeling energetic. Close to the metro as well. And a quiet, sunny and very well equipped spacious apartment to start and end the day. Spotlessly clean. Helpful instructions, handy guidebooks, comfortable beds. Highly recommended.

Wonderful apartment convenient to everything!

This apartment was great for our family with two large bedrooms and a lovely sunlit living room and kitchen area. Loved having the elevator to the 6th floor. Being in the back building was nice and quiet. We quickly established a morning routine of going to the bakery around the corner and then just a short walk to a very nice playground for our 4 y.o. Granddaughter. Bus 57A quickly became our regular transportation, right outside bakery. Subway system wonderful with weekly pass. We hope to return!
