Imperial era until the turn of the century After the pier, which was built in 1878, was no longer sufficient for shipping traffic, the public limited company "Seebad Heringsdorf" under the direction of Dr. Ing. In 1942, the bridge was badly damaged by ice drift, in the winter of 1946 burned by the imprudence of a Russian bridge guard from the bridgehead. The imposing country part with its wooden ornaments fell in 1957 an arson victim. In GDR times, there were already considerations for the reconstruction of the bridge, the project could not be implemented because of the shortage of building materials.
