About John Glavina

Jinny Lee and John Glavina met in 1984 while developing software. They started their own software company in 1992. In 2004, after having spent 5 years in the wine growing Willamette Valley in Oregon, Jinny and John purchased land in the Okanagan. The land that they purchased is situated below Giant’s Head Mountain in Summerland , BC. Oddly enough, Glavina is a Croation name meaning “Giant Head”. Jinny and John have immersed themselves in viticulture and oenology and hope to make small quantities of excellent wine.

John Glavina purchased this farmhouse in 2004

Why John Glavina chose Thompson Okanagan

Summerland has the best climate in the Okanagan to produce pinot noir, gevertztraminer, reisling and chardonnay grapes.

Amazing views and welcoming property!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at this property in Summerland! The location is awesome (right on bottleneck drive). We had planned to go to a lot more wineries but we really enjoyed staying at the property appreciating the views and the nature around us. We were very lucky to be present at the peak of harvest time , we were truly immersed in the whole experience of wine making !!!

The owners are fun, super kind and very knowledgable on the area. The property is extremely clean and the kitchen is well stocked with all the basics and more. Jinny and John are amazing hosts and we can't wait to return! Travelled Sept 2016.

Impecably Clean with Magnificent Views

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Summerland at this rental. We had planned to go out to eat and visit a lot of wineries, but we could not pass up the beautiful view. So we grilled most nights and ate on the deck and started our day with breakfast out on the deck. The back deck is very well sheltered from the wind.

Jinny does a fantastic job with the housekeeping, the place is spotless and very well maintained.

Thank you for your hospitality and the wine glasses in the tasting room!

Beautiful, spotless and a perfectly stocked kitchen

  • 5 of 5

Jinny and John were excellent hosts and the property was immaculate and located perfectly on Bottleneck Drive. Initially we were nervous about renting a property with the hosts next door, but this turned out to be a welcome change: John was always accessible when we needed him (directions, recommendations, an extra cord for our electronics...) but always respectful of our privacy. Our two small children (4 & 6) loved running and exploring within the vinyard that surrounds the house and were thrilled to have John teach them the fine art of wine PH levels!

The house itself is perfectly located with a beautiful view of Giant's head mountain and the Okanagan. And if you love to cook this is definately the rental for you: the lovely kitchen was stocked with every cooking utensil and appliance one will ever need on vacation, and some that we didn't even know how to use!

This location has been expertly rennovated recently and is spotless. I had to look hard to find a spot of dust, and when I did find one it was likely carried in by our children. Because this rental is located smack in the centre of the vinyards, it was an easy walk to a number of local, boutique wineries to purchase a wine for dinner or lunch. Although it's a bit too far to walk to the beaches (and dangerous as you pass highway #97) it was a quick 5 minute drive to the three main beaches where we spent significant time.

Overall, a wonderful property for a family with children looking to enjoy all that the OKanagan has to offer. Would also recommend for couples or a group of adults looking for a golf and/or wine vacation.

Brilliant Stay !

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 4 adults and we loved staying at John and Jinny's place. We sat out every single day, taking in the morning sun on the front deck with views of the Lake, the side deck with views of the vineyard and the rear deck watching the California Quail running between cherry trees with the sinking sun. The house is spotless and the fixtures and fittings were high end. A great location for visiting the great wineries in this area and the views from the property to Okanagan Lake and Naramata Bench were fabulous. John and Jinny were perfect hosts - there if we needed them and lovely people.

Fantastic Five Days in Wonderful Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We were traveling with our son and daughter-in-law, who live in Calgary, and they recommended visiting the Okanagan Valley. When we arrived, we knew this was going to be five glorious days. The property definitely deserves 5 stars, as do the owners. The description of the property and the photos were spot on. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bathrooms had everything we needed and then some. Soap and shampoo were even included, along with deep soft towels. Everything was clean and tidy. Having a washer and dryer were also a big plus. We loved the location, close to where we wanted to go and with breath taking views. Spent a great deal of time on the deck overlooking the vineyards/orchards, and the lake, so relaxing and beautiful. John and Jinny were very helpful with suggestions and information about the area; and again, without being intrusive. John was a font of information about the wine growing and making business. Being in the middle of the Okanagan Valley, Summerland is perfect for exploring farther north and south. There is plenty to do and see and with great restaurants. Just ask John. Given the chance we would definitely return and for sure recommend to others.
